The past years have shown us that when new ideas pop up, or things change, we are able to evolve and adapt extremely quickly. We have created products that not only change our lives but have also allowed us to get out and appreciate what we have ‘Here and Now’.

At Cabrinha we underwent a large change in 2020. We reset the clock and moved to a new future. Two years later we are evolving and developing new products at a pace that we have not been able to achieve previously.

The drive and passion to get on the water and use the products that we design and develop is higher than ever before, and it translates not only into the product range, but also into the lifestyle and dynamic of the brand and our Ohana around the world.

Three of Cabrinha’s international team riders, instrumental in the 02 photo shoot, have over 30 years of combined history as athletes for the brand.

Annelous Lammerts, Alby Rondina & Lucas Arsenault would likely bleed Cabrinha and have been a part of the brands evolution over the last decade. With an unquenchable thirst for time on the water and all enjoying a wide range of products and styles their versatility as kiteboarders are second to none.

ANNELOUS LAMMERTS

The Cabrinha ohana is unique. We live in all parts of the world and might not see each other for a long time, especially over the past few years but when we meet again it’s like no time has passed and it feels like the last time were together was yesterday. It’s something I’ve not felt elsewhere. I’ve spent the last few years really diversifying my riding. Foiling has become a huge passion, mainly due to the fact it enables me to spend so much more time on the water. I find the Moto is the one kite to cover you for everything and its light steering makes it.

Progression has always fuelled my passion for kiting. Jumping higher, doing that extra 180 or just going extra vertical on a wave. The strive to commit and go for it is what motives me day after day. The way we are able to experience nature, feel its power and ride with it is always an amazing thing. On a shoot like this with such varied conditions I always end up gravitating to the switchblade. It’s simply the one kite that does it all at such a high level of performance. The extra hang time that can be achieved with the 02 model really makes it stand out and I’m excited to watch people up their game no matter what discipline they’re into. We all have come together to be a part of Cabrinha at different ages, different accents or languages, styles and backgrounds but we all share the same love and stoke for the sport.

As one part of the 02 twin tip shoot they visited the idyllic Italian island of Sardinia to explore the rugged coastline in search of wind, waves and adventure.

My roots have always been firmly planted in freestyle and I’ve ridden each evolution of the FX since it was released. This year felt like a big progression forwards. It has the perfect balance between a high performance freestyle kite and an all-round kite that’s super fun for boosting and kite loops. With the easy mod to a 6 line setup, it means you can really tweak the kite to the conditions that present. The potential now made possible has really unleashed the top end of this kite for a no holds bar approach to powered handlepasses. The crazy thing is, you then put it in the hands of someone into kite loops and boosting and watch how the features translate. This ‘two sides of a coin’ personality is so exciting to see in action.

Development is the backbone of Cabrinha, and in order to help capitalize on new opportunities and trends, Cabrinha has expanded and diversified the team of designers and engineers with the creation of Cab Design Works.

Lars Moltrup, Product Development Manager, directs the R&D operation from the Maui hub.

The Cabrinha process and approach to product design is very different than the majority of what you would see in the industry. We are not only a diverse design team, spread over all corners of the world, but we bring a top-to-bottom thorough approach to both the design, but also the manufacture and quality of our products. The engagement and close relationships with both 1st, 2nd and 3rd tier of our supply chain, puts us in a unique position to develop and test exciting new raw materials, which is a long term investment and dedication to developing and improving all the sports that we love.

Not one product is the output of a single person. It is the passion, knowledge and experience of a diverse, but tightknit team that ultimately creates the product. From the initial idea, to conceptualizing, prototyping and iterating, homologating, industrialization and implementation of quality control, the entire team comes together.

Pat Goodman, recently rejoined the program, bringing his vast experience and a wealth of knowledge on kite- design, materials and construction to the table. He is coming back to a re-energized group on an upwards trajectory, where his experience and capabilities as a designer, will play an important role alongside the rest of the team. As a part of the team, which is tasked with pushing the kite and materials development down exciting new avenues, there is a fresh hunger to his approach within the new structure.

We have some exciting projects in the works and the level of detail we can go into on them is going to have a profound effect on the sport we all love” A new and formidable young talent, Brodie Sutherland has played an instrumental part in Cabrinha’s wing and foil program. With a background in unmanned aircraft in the aerospace industry he combines an incredible level of on water performance with off water thinking. At just 26 years old, he adds youthful vigour to the program and a dynamic balance to the kite and wing program.

“My background and speciality was in the aerospace industry with aircraft built mostly out of carbon fiber. I used to spend a lot of time in the workshop laying up parts with the production team. Working alongside my father at our manufacturing facility producing aerospace parts was my avenue into flight and it’s super exciting to now take flight within kiteboarding and winging to that next level with the products we are designing”

Adding to the teams global approach to product design, Dean Freedberg is situated right at the epicentre of another wind Mecca; Cape Town. Having left the watersports industry for 4 years on an entrepreneurial journey building a business which to date has over 40 staff, Dean reflects that learning to kite was the one experience that shaped his life and where he wanted to ultimately put his efforts.

“A technical design process in its basic structure is commonly applied in our industry. What really sets a team apart are the dynamics and the way in which the design process is approached. I believe the new CDW team have an amazing dynamic, filled with a combination of fresh, excited members alongside more experienced and established members. This breeds an exciting and passion fueled design dialogue and a strong innovative culture, which ultimately will put CDW ahead of the pack.”

KEAHI DE ABOITIZ & MOONA WHYTE This year marks Keahi de Aboitiz’s 15th year as part of the Cabrinha family since joining as a grom back in 2006. Having stepped away from competition over the last few seasons, it’s given him the space to blow minds with code red swell kite missions and has produced some of the gnarliest kitesurfing videos out there. Over the last few years he has integrated deeper within Cabrinha’s testing team on the Cab Design Works Foil Program. Instrumental in helping test the H-series wings as well as some new surf technologies the team are working on, the competition down time has enabled a closer working connection to the teams main hub on the neighboring Hawaiian island of Oahu.

Living with his partner, fellow Cabrinha athlete and multiple Kitesurf World Champion Moona Whyte, they spend their time fully immersed in some of the heaviest waves on the planet on a daily basis. When it comes to kite surfing no male and female combo charge as hard as these two and they are a testament to Cabrinha’s Kitesurfing collection. Whether you are starting out with strapless riding or charging down the line in overhead surf, the surfboard range has something for everyone combined with the best wave kite on the market.

The couples backyard spot might also be one of the most perfect wing & foil spots on the planet. Just a stones through from their garden lookout, a sheltered right hand break provides perfect peeling waves that have allowed for a critical part of the H-series, Mantis and Crosswing testing programs. It’s a great example of the expanded location testing program that Cabrinha have utilized over the past 18 months. With a more connected, online presence, available across all time zones, a greater array of feedback and communication is possible.

A higher level of performance can only be achieved when the kite’s design properties are supported by a stable and reactive kite material.

Nano Ripstop does just that.

HIGH TENACITY DACRON

Our Dacron is specifically designed for inflated kite structures. The construction of this material is very warp oriented using ultra high tenacity yarns with an increased thread count to combat elongation in the warp direction under high inflation pressures. Lower elongation makes for a more accurate kite with less deformation while in flight.

PURE PROFILE PANELS

The strategically placed panels provide ultimate control over the aerodynamic profiles in the kite. Smooth and stable profile entry. Improved overall kite efficiency, performance, and range. Faster flying through the sky giving you a broader range of performance.

SKELETAL FRAME

Provides the structure that keeps the kite design true to its intended shape while in-flight. The stable frame drives the kite through turbulence with a minimal amount of deformation and has excellent overall de-power. The inflated leading edge introduces the laminar flow of air across the kite’s Pure Profile panels, for a quick recovery if stalled and prevents the kite folding on itself. The inflatable structure reduces the amount of bridling required for stability. It also provides safety by providing some flotation in the water, and enables easy re-launch.

CERAMIC PULLEYS (SWITCHBLADE & DRIFTER) Zirconia (ZrO2 or Zirconium Oxide) - Known for its extreme strength and ability to withstand high heats and abrasion. Zirconia is the perfect material for the new ceramic pulleys. No moving parts means durability and built in safety.

1X SECURITY

Upon activation of 1X’s single line flagging system the power of a kite is immediately killed and it will rest motionless on the water or land.

SPRINT SYSTEM W/ AIRLOCK

The Sprint inflation systems is the most efficient and easy way to get your kite inflated and deflated quickly. The enlarged Airlock valve quickly feeds air into all of the struts from a single location. The Airlock connection to the Sprint pump requires no special adapters.

Once inflated, you can lock off each strut independently to keep your kite’s rigid frame, and isolate any accidental strut deflation from the rest of the kite. When the session is over, the entire kite will deflate in seconds thanks to the Airlock valve’s large dump feature.

DYNAMIC ARC

Dynamic arc allows the kite to have two distinct arc shapes. The arc of the kite takes on one shape while flying, and another shape while in resting mode on the water. While resting on the water the arc opens up slightly to facilitate an easier relaunch.

POWER CONTROL

Every Cabrinha kite comes with a simple, user adjustable way to choose the power level of the kite. Each rear line “pig tail” connector has three power positions you can connect to. The middle position is the factory recommended position. However, the user can choose to create more power by connecting the knot closest to the kite, or less power by connecting to the knot closest to the rider.

PURE ARC SEGMENTS (MOTO)

Increased Leading Edge segments provide a smooth, high definition and aerodynamic arc.

ONSHORE / OFFSHORE (DRIFTER)

Offshore setting optimizes performance for surfing in side shore and offshore wind. This facilitates better upwind ability which allows for easier cutbacks in offshore wind.

Onshore setting optimizes performance for surfing in side shore and onshore wind. This setting provides for the maximum amount of “drift” as well as tighter turning.

SLACKLINE DRIFT (DRIFTER)

The ability to park itself and stay aloft longer when the lines go slack so you can focus entirely on riding the wave.

To help with this we offer multiple tuning options on our kites, to give the rider the ability to adjust the kite to their style of riding. With four different connection methods available you have the ability to connect in the way that best fits your style of riding. And this is just the beginning. The Modular concept can easily adapt to any future Cabrinha connections.

DOUBLE STRUT

The new flared double strut creates a more rigid support to the canopy while stiffening up the ’spine’ of the wing. This helps to support the airfoil and improve rigidity.

HIGH TENACITY DACRON

Our Dacron is specifically designed for inflated kite structures. The construction of this material is very warp oriented using ultra high tenacity yarns with an increased thread count to combat elongation in the warp direction under high inflation pressures. Lower elongation makes for a more accurate kite with less deformation while in flight.

PURE PROFILE PANELS

The strategically placed panels provide ultimate control over the aerodynamic profiles in the kite. Smooth and stable profile entry. Improved overall kite efficiency, performance, and range. Faster flying through the sky giving you a broader range of performance.

SKELETAL FRAME

Provides the structure that keeps the kite design true to its intended shape while in-flight. The stable frame drives the kite through turbulence with a minimal amount of deformation and has excellent overall de-power. The inflated leading edge introduces the laminar flow of air across the kite’s Pure Profile panels, for a quick recovery if stalled and prevents the kite folding on itself. The inflatable structure reduces the amount of bridling required for stability. It also provides safety by providing some flotation in the water, and enables easy re-launch.

SPRINT SYSTEM W/ AIRLOCK

The Sprint inflation systems is the most efficient and easy way to get your kite inflated and deflated quickly. The enlarged Airlock valve quickly feeds air into all of the struts from a single location. The Airlock connection to the Sprint pump requires no special adapters.

Once inflated, you can lock off each strut independently to keep your kite’s rigid frame, and isolate any accidental strut deflation from the rest of the kite. When the session is over, the entire kite will deflate in seconds thanks to the Airlock valve’s large dump feature.

RADIAL PANEL LAYOUT (CROSSWING X3)

Following the natural flow and curves of the wing, the radial panel layout creates a tighter overall canopy, and a firmer structure.

WIDESPAN HANDLES

The next evolutionary design for winging. These long handles simplify the whole process by allowing two simple locations to hold the wing, while also allowing the ability to micro adjust and tune for precise control, without having to remove your hands. The rigid formed handles also provide a crisp direct input to the wing, allowing you to position it where you need, when you need it. Finally the placement of both handles also allow you to pack down the wing into a small package for ease of transport to and from the water.

LOAD DISTRIBUTION CONSTRUCTION

Combining a large diameter leading edge with the Cabrinha signature radial stitching provides an unprecedented level of stiffness to the overall wing frame. This translates to increased stability and support during riding, and the ultimate level of efficiency when getting up and going.

INCREASED DIHEDRAL (MANTIS V2)

The Mantis set a benchmark for stability and control especially when flagging on a wave or going downwind. The increased dihedral on the Mantis V2 further raises the bar and gives even more gains in this area. VOLCANIC BASALT

Basalt is a volcanic mineral fiber which offers vibration resistance and durability while maintaining a high strength to weight ratio.

Washed pure molten basalt rock is absent of toxic additives. The combination of wood core with basalt laminate provides a flex characteristic, unique to Cabrinha.

PARABOLIC RAILS

Core profiling is the most efficient way to control tip, tail and torsional flex. Tapered raised rails control the torsional stiffness and enhances flex control while keeping the board weight to a minimum. Freeride boards benefit the most from the technology with a substantial increase in rebound.

ABS

ABS is a tough hard wearing composite material which bonds very well to epoxy. This is used during the lay-up process ensuring a smooth, durable and consistent ride. All twin tip rails and insert blocks are made from ABS material.

FLEX
