CABE’s State Relations Committee recently adopted the Association’s 2013 Legislative Priorities. Successful implementation of recent education reforms culminating in the legislation adopted in 2012 requires comprehensive focus at the local and state levels. The effectiveness of these changes should be analyzed before any additional requirements are enacted. If resources are not available, the scope and pace of the implementation of these reforms must be revisited. CABE urges Legislators to analyze each piece of legislation by asking “How will this legislation promote student achievement?� and “What is the fiscal and administrative impact on local communities?� The priorities include:

Broderick joins CABE Search Services Robert Rader, Executive Director, CABE Patrice A. McCarthy, Deputy Director and General Counsel, CABE

Dr. Mary Broderick, is joining Jacqueline Jacoby, Paul Gagliarducci and Robert King, as consultants for CABE Search Services. Mary was the keynote speaker at the 2012 CABE/CAPSS Convention. She is well-known, not only in Connecticut, but throughout the country from her years on the board of the National School Boards Association, including serving as president. Having served on the East Lyme Board since 1989, Mary joined the CABE Board in 1993 and in 2002-2004 served as its President. She became a member of the NSBA Board as Northeast Regional Director in 2005. Broderick served several years as chair of the East Lyme Board of Education in 1992 and again from 1995 to 1997. She has worked closely with the Connecticut Department of Education on issues ranging from preschool education to teacher recruitment and mental health issues. From 1994 to 1999 she served as co-chair of a regional forum on quality and diversity in education. In her “spare� time, which is obviously quite sparse, she completed her Educational Leadership Doctorate at the University of Connecticut. She also works to help support school/community partnerships for the William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund.
