BLENHEIM TERRACES

1.0 Executive Summary

This Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) has been written in the response to the commission of the next phase of the residential development at Moseley Green to the immediate west of existing residential area in Cookridge, Leeds, received by Leeds Beckett University. The purpose of the report is to assess the likely visual and landscape impacts that could arise as a result of the proposed intervention.

Several important landscape and visual receptors have been identified by carrying out field studies and desktop research.

Assessment of the effects due to the proposed intervention have been considered in the form of sensitivity, magnitude and overall importance, which are determined by using a combination of quantitative (objective) and qualitative (subjective) methods.

In summary, the LVIA reveals that the most important landscape effect will be the buildings put in place and the lighting along the road corridors.

Visual impacts of the highest importance will affect receptors living in the houses built in phase 1 of the development.

The assessment is supported by several maps, diagrams, representative viewpoints and photo montages.

3.0 Methodology

3.1 Introduction

An LVIA of the proposed intervention has been carried out in line with the LA502 2019 Workshop Booklet- assembled by Leeds Beckett University for the use of second year Landscape Architecture students.

3.2 Structure of Overall Methodology

The sequential structure of the methodology process can be seen below:

Figure 4: This Zone of Theoretical Visibilty map (ZTV) shows all areas that the intervention will be visible from in a radial distance of 1km and 2km.

Trees and buildings are not taken into consideration in ZTVs. Majority of the surrounding area to the West and South of the site is visible within a 1km radius of the site as well as the residential area in Cookridge immediately to the East of the site being visible. Within a 2km radius of the site, the main area affected is to the South of the site, Horsforth. 13
