Seamons

Conductor

Dr. Nate Seamons joined the faculty at BYU in 2021 where he serves as the Associate Director of Bands. In this capacity, he is the conductor of the BYU Symphonic Band, and the BYU University Band. He also teaches courses in Music Education. He previously served as the Director of Bands at Snow College. He has served as the band director for multiple public schools in Utah and Texas, including American Fork High School in Utah and the L.D. Bell High School cluster in Texas. He holds degrees from Brigham Young University, University of Nevada-Las Vegas, and the University of Utah.

Dr. Seamons he has served as associate conductor for the Wasatch Winds and the Irving Symphonic Band (TX). He has also guest conducted the Utah Premiere Brass, and the Utah Wind Symphony. Dr. Seamons has been a guest conductor at honor bands, and school programs both regionally and nationally. His research has been presented at the Midwest International Clinic and the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles conference in Gwangju-Gyeonggi, Korea.

Dr. Seamons has been blessed to perform in Korea, Hong Kong, Slovakia, Austria, the Czech Republic, Italy, England, France, Switzerland, Germany, and Canada. He is a former member of the Orchestra at Temple Square, and the Las Vegas Philharmonic Orchestra, playing trombone. Dr. Seamons is a Conn-Selmer educational clinician, and an active marching band show designer. He lives in Highland, UT with his wife, Mary Jane, four children. He enjoys skiing, hiking, and boating with his family when not making music.

Monte Belknap is known for his rich tone, consummate technique, and inspiring interpretations. In high demand, Belknap has performed across Argentina, Brazil, Croatia, Italy, New Zealand, Romania, Slovenia, and the US. Evident from a young age, Monte’s exceptional talent earned him prestigious accolades, such as the coveted Starling International Violin Competition at the Aspen Music Festival in 1989. Studies continued under renowned mentors Kurt Sassmannshaus and Dorothy DeLay at the Cincinnati-Conservatory of Music. This became the foundation for Belknap’s deep, massive tone and virtuosic technique.

Committed to nurturing the next generation of musicians, Belknap is frequently invited to share his expertise at numerous prestigious music festivals and music schools worldwide. Monte also offers lessons and masterclasses online to share his wealth of knowledge with ever-increasing demand. Career achievements include performing in over 300 chamber music recitals, recording the cycle of Beethoven Violin Sonatas with Barbara Allen, serving as concertmaster of many professional orchestras (including the Orchestra at Temple Square), performing across the United States with many ensembles, and winning the Studio Teacher of the Year Award by the American String Teacher Association (Utah). Professor Belknap has taught violin at Brigham Young University for over twenty-one years, and his students regularly win national and international scholarships, prizes, and awards.
