Directors’ Note As a directing team we usually know exactly which show we want to produce during camp, but we wrestled with the decision this year. This did not stem from discord or vacillation between other titles, but rather from a desire to be certain that we could share it in a way that appropriately honored both the intention of the original production and the context in which we would present it. This modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s eponymous star-crossed lovers would be easy to think of as a monument of American musical theatre that we dust off every once in a while because the music is glorious and the narrative is familiar and riveting. However, at 69 years young, it remains a difficult and important story to tell that is as prescient now as when it was written. Always meant as a re-telling of Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story was originally intended to take place on the Lower East Side of Manhattan with the conflict centering on an Irish-Catholic boy and a Jewish girl during Easter and Passover. Ultimately the similarities to another play caused the creative team to shelve the idea. When they revisited it in 1955, headlines of teen gang violence in Los Angeles caught their attention and the setting shifted to the Upper West Side and highlighted the social and racial tensions between white teenagers, their Puerto Rican immigrant counterparts, and the societal patterns that inhibited both.

Whereas we often produce titles that feature mostly adult characters, West Side Story is in fact told by teenagers and young adults. This has amplified the poignancy of the material for us as we have had the privilege of witnessing your children inhabit these roles. We are grateful for and impressed by the requisite maturity they possess in order to digest the difficult tasks of saying and doing ugly things to their peers on the stage.

They have shared thoughtful and inspired insights as we have counseled together about why the dialogue is written the way it is, the complexities of the storyline, and how it all relates to their shared human experience. One of the things we pride ourselves on at Broadway Bootcamp is the ability to use a gospel lens through which to view complicated material. We hope you will encourage your campers to share with you and your families some of the beautiful connections they have made during our time together and that doing so will bless your lives the way it has ours.

Meet the Cast Josh is a Junior from Highland Utah, he has been doing theater for 4 years and is super excited for his 3rd year at Broadway Bootcamp!!

Joshua Adamson Maddie is 17 years old and at her 4th year of this camp.

She loves her Viola and kpop.

Maddie Allen Kherington is so thrilled to be in BYU Broadway Bootcamp’s production of West Side Story, so much that she has traveled from canada to experience this amazing opportunity! Kherington has performed in other shows such as Bring it On, Wizard of Oz, Sound of Music, and lots more! She hopes you enjoy the show!

Kherington Audenart Hazel is so excited to be attending her first year of Broadway Bootcamp! In addition to musical theatre, she participates in various forms of dance and dance theatre.

Maysa is soon to be a sophomore at Early College Academy, and her dream is to become a theatre major at Brigham Young University. She has been in several musicals and plays including The Wizard of Oz, Pandemonium, and Arsenic and Old Lace. She is very excited to play Big Deal in West Side Story!

Maysa Bennett Charlotte is very thankful for the experience and opportunity to be in the BYU Broadway Bootcamp’s production of West Side Story! She wouldn’t be here without the support of her friends and family so she wants to thank them for their continued support!

Kylie Bigelow Victoria is thrilled to be back for another season at Broadway Bootcamp! After touring around the country on the Broadway National tour of Anastasia at the age of 8, Victoria learned how impactful musical theater can be and she can’t wait to see where her musical theatre journey takes her! This is Lily’s third year at Broadway Bootcamp and is so grateful to be back. She was most recently seen in You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown as Sally Brown. Lily is going into her senior year at Skyridge High School and she would like to thank her family and friends for always supporting and cheering her on. She is so excited to sing I Feel Pretty and hopes you enjoy the show!

Lily Blanchard Andrew Bodily loves performing and is grateful for every opportunity to be on stage. Outside of theater, he enjoys writing and choir.

Emma is super excited to be returning to Broadway Bootcamp and be a part of West Side Story! She’s been doing musical theatre for a few years now and has loved every single show and rehearsal, however exhausting they are. This is Brandon’s second time at Broadway Boot camp, he is very exited to be back. Brandon has been doing theater for 6 years and plans on continuing theater for much longer. Brandon will be a senior in high school and is exited to see what it brings.

Christian is a 15 year old who has been involved in theater for 4 years! He loves to play guitar, sing, and hangout with friends. He’s so excited to be part of this production of West Side Story!!

Christian Bowen Lauren is a rising senior and this is her third year at Broadway Bootcamp!! She wants to thank her family and friends for supporting her and hopes you enjoy the show!!

Lauren Briggs This is Anna’s first year at Broadway Bootcamp and she has a great time meeting all the new, talented people. She previously has done lots of theatre in her community and school at Washington. Her favorite song is ‘Cool’ because of the fun dancing and unique music.

Anna Brown Imogen will be a junior in high school and is so excited to be back for her 2nd year at Broadway Bootcamp!

Some of her favorite roles include Susan in High School Musical and Ms. Norbury in Mean Girls Jr. She would like to thank her family, leaders, directors, and cast mates for their constant support and enjoy the show!

Kellen is 15 and has been in theatre for 4 years. His favorite roles include Hermes in Hadestown, and Nicely in Guys and Dolls. He loves to sing, play instruments, and play with his dog.

Kellen Castleton Leila is excited to be performing West Side Story. She is grateful for her family’s encouragement to participate in this camp. She hopes that you will enjoy the show.

Leila Christensen Judah loves theater, and other stuff, like movies and friends, and piano. He also doesn’t know what to write for a second sentence.

Leith has been doing theatre for over 10 years, and hopes to continue for many more. She is going into her senior year, and would like to thank the directors, the choreographers, and voice instructors who have helped her get to where she is today. She would also like to especially thank all the amazing people who worked so hard to put on this show, and hopes you enjoy watching as much as she enjoys performing it.

Brooklyn Conley

Brooklyn is so excited to be in West Side Story! Dancing has always been an important part of her life and being able to dance in this piece of theater is an amazing opportunity. This is Brooklyn’s first year at Broadway Bootcamp and has loved her experience. Brooklyn is going into her senior year at Skyridge High School and is excited to keep doing theater! She would like to thank her parents and family for always giving her support and encouragement during this amazing show.

Ginger is so excited to be a part of West Side Story!

Some musicals she’s been in include ensemble for Curtains and the Music Man at Shoreline Middle School.

She loves singing and dancing and acting; when she isn’t performing she’s usually hanging with her friends.

Ginger Cosman This is Theo’s fourth year at BBC. Theo is thrilled to have multiple dance features in this show and thanks his parents for the opportunity to be here and learn the skills he needed for that. Theo loves you and hopes you enjoy the show!!!

Theo Davis Maren has had an interest in theater for a while. She loves chickens and fixing cars. She lives in Keenesburg Colorado. She has come to BYU Broadway Bootcamp for 3 years now.

Luther has graduated from Organ Mountain High this year and is attending NMSU in the fall. He has been in Phantom of the Opera, Little Mermaid, The Drowsy Chaperone and other musicals. He is overjoyed to attend this camp one last time before he starts a new story, The Story of Adulthood.

Luther Eliss This is Millie’s third year at Broadway Bootcamp and she has been doing theater since middle school. She has loved her experiences and all the friends she made along the way. She would like to thank her family for always supporting her theater endeavors and hopes you enjoy the show!

Millie Eyre Ryan will be going into senior year at Del Oro High School in Loomis, California. He has been doing theater since the 4th grade and is excited to show how much he’s improved his dancing since starting west side story.

David Fors Blake is excited to participate in his second year of Broadway Bootcamp at BYU! He’s played roles like Aladdin, Wonka, Captain Hook, Troy, Davey, and so many more! He hopes you enjoy the show!

Blake Franklin Aliya is so excited to be in West Side Story. Broadway Bootcamp has been an amazing experience for her to meet amazing people and share her light through music. She is eternally grateful for her parents who always support her and her sister who is her biggest cheerleader :) Aliya Gardner Emmy is from Texas and she is very excited to participate in West Side Story. She is proud of all her friends and their hard work as well as their support. She loves preforming, baking and art.

Elena is from Calgary, Canada and she is so excited to be part of BYU Broadway Bootcamp’s performance of West Side Story. She has performed in many shows like Chicago, SpongeBob and Something Rotten. She hopes you enjoy the show!

Adeline Gleason

Adeline is so excited to perform as Maria in the Tonight (Quintet) in West Side Story! She has been performing in theater since 2020, but dancing and music have always been a part of her life. Her favorite past roles have been Babette at BYU Broadway Bootcamp’s Beauty and the Beast, Vi in Footloose Teen Edition, Annabeth in The Lightning Thief, and a dancer in Hadestown Teen, Newsies Teen, and Beauty and the Beast Jr. (Yes, she did it twice and loved both so much), and she hopes that you’ll love this show and that tonight won’t be just any night!

Liam enjoys interests and exploring various aspects of life. He aspires to become someone.

Liliana is an 18-year old incoming freshman to the University of North Texas with a love of theater. She is very excited to be part of her second production with Broadway Bootcamp, and has previously participated in several productions including SpongeBob the Musical, A Christmas Story, The Phantom of the Opera, and The Mousetrap. Liliana would like to thank her parents for all their support, and the directors and counselors for all their hard work and dedication that they have put towards this amazing experience!

Emma is so excited to be in her second year of Broadway Bootcamp! She loves performing both here at BYU, and at home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She is grateful for her families support.

Emma Hansen Eva is from Austin Texas. She loves reading, spending her free time quoting movies and being with her friends.

She is Anita in West Side Story and has a few other rolls but is happy that to get to bring each one to life in this production.

Eva Harbach Mitch is 16 and this is his second year at this camp.

He would like to thank his family, friends, counselors, and directors for cheering him on. He loves Diet Coke and being in this camp and is so happy to be apart of something so fun!

Mitchell Harkness This is Chera’s first year at Broadway Bootcamp and she has had a great time. Outside of performing, Chera enjoys drawing in her sketch book. Bridger has been doing musical theatre for almost ten years, and has loved every minute of it. He started theatre as Drank in Annie Jr, and has done so many shows since.

Zachary comes from Fort Worth, Texas, and is excited to play A-Rab in West Side Story. This will be his second show with the BYU Broadway Bootcamp, and he is excited to make new friends and memories. Zach would like to thank his parents for their endless support, his grandparents for urging him to continue to develop his voice, and his friends and family for never giving up on him, and for always being there for him.

Sariah is fifteen years old and so excited to play Rosalia in this year’s production of West Side Story. Theatre is one of her biggest passions and she aspires to someday be a voice actor. Some of her recent performances include: Anastasia as the Dowager Empress at Triumvirate Theatre, Frozen as Elsa at Soldotna Highschool, Midsummer Night’s Dream as Puck/ Robin Goodfellow at Triumvirate Theatre, and Sound Of Music as Louisa Von Trap at Triumvirate Theatre. She has extremely enjoyed this experience and is grateful for everyone who helped her on her performing journey.

Alice is completing her fourth and final year at Broadway Bootcamp. She is 18 and going into college this fall. She hopes to bring her acting skills into voiceover work.

Aidyn has been a part of over 35 productions, with notable roles like Dana (Camp Rock), Katherine (Newsies), Crush (Finding Nemo), Paulette (Legally Blonde), and James (James and The Giant Peach), Scar (Lion King), and Elsa (Frozen)! She also loves the technical side of theater, especially lighting!! She wants to thank Mom and Dad, Miles, Riley and Zane, Tessa, Brynlie and Teresa, and The Council!!

Katie will be a junior in high school and has been dancing since she was 3 years old. Ever since, she continues to love being on stage. Along with dance, she’d found a love for singing and acting and anything related to the arts.

Owen, 17, lives in Spring, Texas, and is excited to be here at BYU Broadway Camp. Some of his favorite roles include Hades in Hadestown, Prince Topher in Cinderella, Jack Kelly in Newsies, and Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid. Owen would like to thank his mom/voice teacher, dad, Nathan, the directors, and his friends for their constant encouragement and support, and hopes you enjoy the show!

Adelaide comes from Heber, Utah and is 17 years old.

She loves theater and is so excited to be a part of Broadway Bootcamp this year. When she isn’t at theater camp, she loves reading, singing, and playing her violin.

Imogen is an avid theater fan and a lover of astronomy.

She’s really enjoyed her time at Broadway Bootcamp and has learned so much! She’s excited to play Anita and to be in the ensemble for West Side Story.

Layne is from Georgia and is so glad to be back for her second Broadway Bootcamp show. Layne has done theater her entire life and some of her favorite roles include Kate in Taming of the Shrew, Fern in Charlotte’s Web, and Mister Carnes in Oklahoma. Layne has had a blast working on this show and she would like to thank her family, new friends, and the lovely directors for supporting her with everything.

Annie Jones Amelia is so excited to be a part of this show production, West Side Story! She has been in 14 shows at the age of 14 in which her favorite roles she has played are Fiona in Shrek or Kathryn in Newsies! She has such an amazing and supportive family and hopes to be on Broadway one day!

Amelia Judd Trace has been performing for 4 years, and he’s thrilled to be performing in a production of West Side Story.

Other things he likes besides acting include video games, playing instruments, school choir, and girls.

Holland Lanning

Holland returns to BYU Broadway Bootcamp after portraying Raoul (and ensemble) in The Phantom of the Opera last summer, and this year appears as Chino, Big Deal and ensemble in West Side Story. His favorite credits at Kaohsiung American School in Taiwan include Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid and Kristoff in Frozen.

Holland is deeply grateful to his parents, siblings, and extended family for always encouraging him to pursue what he loves.

Sophie is an 18 year old graduate that will be attending SUU for Theater in the Spring. She has been in 6 shows, a couple of her favorite roles being the stepsister Joy in Rodger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella and Otho in Beetlejuice. She’s excited to be a part of show with such a prevalent and important message!

Sophie Letterman Genevieve is so excited to be a part of Broadway Bootcamp’s West Side Story this year. She has loved being a part of the cast in creating this musical. She loves singing, dancing, and acting, and has been a part of many musical productions in the past. She hopes you enjoy the show!

This is Caroline’s first time with Broadway Bootcamp and she is thrilled to be part of its production of West Side Story. Caroline loves both singing and acting, and she has been in several productions in the past. She has greatly enjoyed getting to know all the wonderful people here at this camp and has learned so much from all of her amazing directors and leaders; hopefully you’ll love this show as much as she does!

Joey is so excited to be here at Broadway Bootcamp this year! He’s so grateful to be able to be here with such an amazing and talented cast and crew! Break legs everyone!!!

Joseph Livsey

Jay is a unique individual. He is known as the 4th hottest man alive. He is also known to be the most humble person in the world.

Jay Lusvardi Kirk has been a musician his entire life, and recently got into acting. He has two dogs at home, Daisy and Willow, both of whom are poodles. He loves animals and someday WILL have a pet tiger, penguin, and/or axolotl.

Kirk Magleby Lambert Benjamin is thrilled to be performing in his favorite musical, the brilliant West Side Story. His favorite roles he’s played include Gatsby (The Great Gatsby), Harold Hill (The Music Man), Macbeth (Macbeth) and Shrek (Shrek). He’s so grateful for everyone that made this amazing experience possible and he invites you to enjoy the show and snap along!

Benjamin Marshall Isaac McClellan is a 14 year old actor from Colorado. His past work includes Madagascar, Suessical, Shrek, and Beetlejuice.

Morgan Millhouse Zachary is a junior in high school. He has been in several productions over the past 7 years, and is very excited to be back at Broadway Bootcamp for the second time.

Outside theatre, he enjoys playing the guitar and violin, writing, being outdoors, and sleeping in.

Zachary Miskin Sadie enjoys chicken tenders and having fun with friends and family.

Max is so excited to be returning for his third production with BYU Broadway Bootcamp. He enjoys playing guitar, soccer, and reading. He is so grateful to his family and friends for supporting him and to the wonderful cast and crew.

Max Morely Chloe is 17 and is enjoying her first summer at BYU Broadway Bootcamp! She enjoyed every second of singing, dancing, acting, and fun activities throughout.

Sarah Oldroyd Austin (Baby John/Ensemble) is very excited for his final year at BYU Broadway Bootcamp. He would also like to thank his theatre mentors, cast-mates, and especially his family for all the support they have given him these past 18 years.

Rosie is so excited to be in her first year of BYU Broadway Bootcamp! Rosie is from Idaho and is going into her sophomore year of high school. She enjoys singing, ballroom dancing, and martial arts, enjoy the show!!!

Rosie Parkes This is Sophie’s second year here at Broadway Bootcamp and she is so excited to be back. She found her passion for singing at a very young age and theatre followed soon after, she’d like to thank her family for all their love and support through her career as a young actress. Sophie will soon graduate and can’t wait for what this new chapter of her life brings!

Sophie Peterson This is Leilah’s 7th show. She is Graziella and Anybody’s in the scene before the finale. She would like to thank Morgan Millhouse, her best friend. Honorable mentions, Phanny, Mama, Papa.

Leilah Poulson Hayden is extremely excited to be returning to Broadway Bootcamp! He is honored to be part of such a talented cast and to have had the best directors in the country! He would like to thank the audience for coming and hopes they enjoy the show!

Charlotte is from Dickinson, ND and loves to perform.

She loves musical theater because it combines all her favorite things: singing, dancing, and acting. She also enjoys art and reading.

Charlotte Rae Sadie has loved being in West Side Story, she has been in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as Willy Wonka.

She loves to be acting, but when she’s not, she likes to read and do barrel racing.

Sadie Reed Ivy is so excited to be in her second production with this camp! She wishes good luck to everyone and have a great show!

Ivy Ricks Gabriella has done six shows over the last three years and has loved every minute of it. She has been in as The Music Man, The Little Mermaid, and Hadestown.

She would like to thank her parents, siblings and past directors for always being supportive of her musical theater journey.

Grace is a 17-year-old from Bountiful, UT who was been looking forward to returning to camp all year! Grace has a passion for storytelling and is so honored to help bring this story to life. Grace would like to thank her parents and Throat Coat Tea for all their support!

Grace Scoville Ilili enjoys playing violin and going on trips with her family and being outside.

Ilili Server Emmett is happy to be back for his 3rd year of Broadway Bootcamp. He has been in multiple plays since the first time going to his first year Broadway Bootcamp and can’t wait for his 4th.

Emmett Shields Andrew is super excited to participate in his first year at Broadway Bootcamp! In his free time, Andrew enjoys playing soccer, tennis, and serenading all the ladies with his French horn. He hopes you enjoy the show and stay in your seat!

Scarlett has been doing music and musical theater her whole life, she has played roles like ‘Think of Me’ — Christine (BBC, 2025) she played Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof, and she has been playing and studying violin for 12 years. She is so excited for you to see West Side Story, and she’d like to thank her parents for helping support her dreams. Scarlett will be playing Balcony Scene Maria, Enjoy!!!!

Kylie is so excited to be performing in West Side Story!!

She loves musicals and was most recently Mrs. Honey is Matilda. Performing is such a joy for her and she has absolutely loved being in this production!

Kylie Steck Madelynn is from Greenville, North Carolina (a land far far away)! She is proud to call this her tenth show and first at BYU. She wants to thank family, teachers, and friends who support her in her love of theatre!

Madelynn Steele Asher loves to sing and do musicals. He was born in Rochester, New York, but currently lives in Singapore.

He likes the color gold and likes to play with his dog, Maple.

Aspen Thunell

Aspen is fourteen and excited for her contribution in the Broadway Bootcamp production of West Side Story! She was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada and developed a connection with theater two years ago when she was persuaded into a drama class by her parents- ultimately leading her down a completely unexpected world of music, lights, and performance that she wishes to continue for the rest of her life. A beloved quote of mine- “Acting is the life of the human soul receiving birth through art.”- Acting in Six Lessons, Richard Boleslavsky.

Abby is excited to be in her first year at Broadway Bootcamp! She has been in several previous productions, including A Christmas Carol, Oliver, Finding Nemo, Annie, The Lightning Thief, and Newsies. She would like to thank her family for supporting her, and shout-out to Mama and Phanny for being the best.

Abigail Torgerson Seattle Trejo Seattle is an incoming senior at Klamath Union High School with the goal of performing musical theater professionally. When Seattle isn’t dancing and singing, she enjoys reading non-fiction, going to dances and eating Mexican food. Seattle has performed in musicals most of her life starring in The Lion King, Peter Pan, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and is excited to be a participant of West Side Story.

Marie is so excited to be playing Indio in this year’s production of West Side Story! This is Marie’s second Broadway Bootcamp, playing the role of Meg in last year’s production of Phantom of The Opera. When Marie is not performing in a musical, she is ballroom dancing or skateboarding.

Marie Vilburn This is Clarissa’s third year at boot camp and she is thrilled to be apart of West Side Story. She is grateful to be apart of this performance and all of the opportunities it has brought

Clarissa Wagner Tyler has been inquired with the arts over the years, especially in theater. He is always interested in performing on his own and with the others around him as well. Spending time with his friends and his fellow actors is something he will always remember.

Tyler Ward Genevieve has been doing musical theatre since she was 11, but has loved music even longer. She’s found so much love from not only her high school and private theatre in Oregon, but from all the people at Broadway Bootcamp. She can’t wait to learn even more and is so thankful for this experience.

Desmond has been doing theater for many years he’s been in many plays such as Beauty and the Beast, Phantom of the Opera, The Lion King, Newsies and much much more. He’s excited to be performing in West Side Story!

Desmond Weichers Porter is awesome and loves theater. He is excited to get a scene of playing Bernardo. He has loved theater camp.

Porter Welch Noah is a fabulous actor and performer. He is on the stage tonight to tell one of his favorite stories and to give it justice only Batman could rival. He owes this wonderful opportunity to an art focused society and Santa Claus.

Noah Wells Amarah is from an Idaho mountain town. She takes any chance she has to get on stage and loves hanging out with friends and lending a helping hand.

Josie is a soon to be Junior at SHS, and has been in many productions, some of her favorites being assistant choreographer in The Lightning Thief, Shadow Christine in Phantom of the Opera, and ensemble in Les Miserable. She is so excited to do West Side Story this year, and is excited for next year’s show as well!

Adelaide has always loved the theater and fine arts. From a young age performing on stage was exhilarating and she sought out more opportunities. Her first stage was ballet and tap dance, she then moved on and did eight years of Irish dance. In high school she decided to give community musical a try. Performing in Tuck Everlasting and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat. If she could do just one thing she would live her life as a musical, she would like to thank her brother for joining her in this musical adventure and coming to camp with her. What a wild ride!

Maren is SO excited to be at Broadway Bootcamp, and she has had the best time here! She has been a singer and actor her whole life, but dancing is a relatively new experience—and it’s been amazing. Maren loves theatre with a passion, and is honored to be a part of West Side Story, with such a talented and amazing cast!

Naomi is from Virginia, and has been doing theatre ever since 7th grade. This is her 3rd year with this camp, and is excited to play Anita for one of the scenes this year!

She would also like to thank her brother and dad for coming out to see this production, and expects to get In-N-Out before she goes home.

Naomi Woidka Hyrum is a 17 year old who has graduated from high school and about to start college. He has been acting for 2 years and is excited to improve as time goes on.

Some of the musicals he has been involved in include: Phantom of the Opera, The Addams Family, and Little Shop of Horrors.
