Dear Members of the Beauvoir Community, On behalf of Beauvoir’s Governing Board, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone for your extraordinary support of our school over the past few years. An incredible 792 donors contributed to the Beauvoir Fund, our Annual Giving campaign, during the 2020 –21 and 2021 –22 fiscal years; last year we raised the highest amount in the School’s history, surpassing the $1 million mark in an astonishing display of generosity. That our community’s commitment to philanthropy was at its height during a challenging time — with the COVID-19 pandemic and economic uncertainty — is a true testament to our collective love of Beauvoir. Our devoted Beauvoir Fund Chair Lindsay Ellenbogen in 2020 –21 and Co-chairs Ari and Kelley Redbord in 2021 –22 deserve special thanks, as do our talented Scholarship Benefit Co-Chairs Marcus Johnson and Amy Lancaster in 2020 –21 and Co-chairs Andrea Mathis and Lisa Lowenstein in 2021 –22 for their leadership and commitment to Beauvoir. Over the past few years, we said thank you and farewell to a number of Governing Board members. Tamika Smith-Jackson, Michael Rankin, and Hayes Smith all served for six years, during which they were valued for their leadership, insight, and generosity. Mallory Stewart and Mukang Cho devoted their expertise and thoughtfulness to the Board for four years each, and Scott Jaeckel ensured our school’s financial health and stability during his five years of service. We are grateful to Jane Genster for her three years of service and invaluable perspective — decades after she chaired the Board herself! Cara Hur and Sharee McKenzie Taylor were both vital board members due to their skillful leadership of the Parents Association. Last but not least, Billy Kappaz left the Board in 2021 after seven years of board service, the last three of which he served as chair. Billy was an inspiring leader who guided the Board through not only a change in school leadership, but the pandemic with courage, warmth, and empathy.

During the 2020 –21 school year, the Governing Board worked in partnership with our unparalleled Head of School, Cindi Gibbs-Wilborn, to develop our Strategic Plan 2025, which sets out Beauvoir’s vision and direction for the School’s tenth decade. In the plan, we articulated goals relating to our Episcopal identity, preparing our children for academic life beyond Beauvoir, improving our physical spaces, and managing our tuition growth, as well as laying out specific steps for achieving these and other priorities. The plan, published in 2021, reflects countless hours of work and collaboration among board members, school leadership, faculty, staff, and many parents. We are so proud of and grateful for the careful thought that went into this meaningful roadmap. As we look toward the future, with a dedication to the intentional teaching of young children and leadership in early childhood education, we seek to attract and support the best faculty, grow our endowment to support future generations of learners, and reimagine Beauvoir’s learning spaces. We are excited to officially welcome new board members in the fall and know they will be instrumental in shepherding these priorities to fruition with their many talents and commitment to Beauvoir’s mission. Thank you, Cindi, for being steady and tireless in the face of enormous and unprecedented challenges, and for never losing sight of your priority: our children. Along with generations of Beauvoir leaders, faculty, staff, and parents, you are deeply committed to young children and the belief that the beginning is truly the most important part of the work.
