Dear Friends and fellow Cattle Producers, We hope you have weathered the summer well, and are sharing our hope for a good wet winter. We appreciate you taking some time out of your busy day to look through our catalog. What is expressed in this year’s offering is over 45 years of selection and data collection.

Our breeding philosophy has remained consistent. There are many factors that go into it, but the overarching theme has remained the same – lower maintenance, bigger payday. Lower maintenance is a function of cattle that can perform in less than ideal conditions. Fertility, longevity, calving ease, and conversion of native feed in less-than-ideal conditions is how we define low maintenance. Bigger payday is a function of more highly marketable pounds sold off the ranch.

More live calves that grow rapidly into a product that cattle buyers will look for year after year is how we define ‘bigger payday’.

We invite you to come see these bulls; we believe they are a product that will contribute to your profitability in the future. They have been tested for performance and ability, and have had a full complement of health protocols to help protect your investment. They have been sifted for disposition to make for easy handling and a safer management experience.

EPDs have never been the best selection tool for picking cattle, but we have always used them as one of the many factors to look at when selecting bulls. At the beginning of this year, the American Hereford Association re-ordered and re-evaluated the breed’s EPDs. This reestablishment changed the assumed correlation between certain traits, and therefore changed the way EPDs appear. Coupled with the reestablished EPD base, AHA is using more and more DNA data for genetic markers that may be linked to certain traits and infusing that data into the EPDs. At this point we have a low confidence level in the accuracy of these new EPDs, as they often don’t mesh with the 46 years of production data we have in our herd to compare against. At some point, we are hoping the accuracy improves and EPDs can be an important part of one’s selection criteria. We have included EPDs in the catalog, but we would encourage you to know the philosophy of the breeder you buy from and ask us for any information that helps you find the bull with the traits most important to your herd.

All buyers will register and get a buyer number. Each bull will be listed on a sheet of paper with a base price. The first one to write their buyer number under a bull will be casting a bid for that bull at the listed base price.

Additional bidders that write their buyer number on successive lines will be casting a bid $100 higher than the previous bidder (denoted beside each successive line). Any bull can sell at the listed base, given there are no additional bidders. Silent auction will end after a reasonable amount of time that will be announced to bidders, at which point each lot will be closed out individually for bidders to be given a final opportunity.

Just as with any auction, no bid should be cast unless the bidder is willing to purchase the bull at the price at which they bid (which will be clearly denoted).

Snedden Ranch will be reserving an interest in several of the Hereford bulls, several of these are denoted in the catalog.� Snedden Ranch may retain possession as a herd bull on one or more of these bulls pending yearling and ultrasound data. Feel free to call concerning the interests in these bulls as the date approaches. We will be offering updates on

our website as to interest and terms of possession.

Announcements on sale day regarding these bulls and any others will take precedence over the catalog.

Snedden Ranch will need to retain several bulls outright to cover our commercial cows. Buyers will have first choice, at such a point that bids have been cast for all but two Red Angus bulls. Those two bulls will be retained by Snedden Ranch and immediately be not for sale. HEALTH: All sale bulls will have passed a breeding soundness exam, including scrotal measurement and semen test. All bulls have been tested BVD-PI free. Anaplaz vaccinated. Three shots of Bovishield Gold FP 5L5 and Ultrabac 8. One shot of Ivermax and Safeguard.

All Hereford bulls have been DNA tested free of all known defects recognized by the American Hereford Association.

Commercial Heifers Lots 1–3: Open Yearling Commercial Heifers (five heifers per lot) These heifers were chosen off the very top of our commercial replacements. We hand selected each of these as the ones we would pick to make cows. They have been raised in rough country, weaned on long hay for 5 days, and turned back out on native pasture. We believe this is a pretty elite group of heifers that will pay for themselves multiple times in the years to come. There are solid reds, red mottle faced, red cheeked, and white faces. We will sort these heifers in groups of 5 based on like kind. Each lot of 5 will have a silent auction sheet just like the bulls. The bidding format will be based on the value of 1 head, with the buyer recognizing that it will be the value of the winning bid times 5 for the whole lot. All heifers have been Anaplaz vaccinated. 3 shots Bovishield Gold FP 5L5, and 3 shots of Ultrabac 8. One shot of Ivermax and Safeguard.
