Welcome Fellow Cattle Producers, The cow-calf producer has one of the most complex and diverse jobs in the world. A cowcalf producer may perform the duties of a cowboy, plumber, veterinarian, secretary, marketer, construction worker, welder, mechanic and administrator, all in the course of one day. Just as our businesses ask a lot of us, the cowman needs his/her cattle to perform a variety of tasks for him.

Our family has been in the cattle business in Kern County for nearly 150 years. When Snedden Ranch bought their first registered Hereford cows in 1972, it was not with the goal of making the premier registered animal. Instead Snedden Ranch got into the seedstock business to provide genetics for our own commercial herd that could withstand and excel under the rigors of western ranching operations. When we saw success in our own herd, we began selling a few bulls. We are not in the business to raise the premier registered animal, we want the next calves you sell or the replacement females you raise to be the star of the show. To accomplish this goal, we are striving for consistency and requiring cow productivity and functionality. We look to continue to challenge our cattle so that the genetics you put into your herd will live up to the demands of the commercial cowman.

To achieve this, we have made incremental genetic progress while trying to hold the good traits constant throughout. The SR prefix is given to all the Hereford cattle raised here. If you look back through the bottom side of the pedigree of all the Hereford bulls offered in this sale, you will see the SR prefix going back 40 years in many cases. The consistency offered in the bottom side of the pedigree not only reduces the variability of the offspring so that there are no unpleasant surprises but increases the heterosis, once again positioning the cattle you raise out of these bulls to be the star of the show.

The cow herd that stands behind these bulls is rangeland proven. These bulls were raised on their mommas and native pasture only, no creep feed. After weaning, the bulls have been grown on oat and alfalfa hay and up to 4 lb. of grain per day.

None of our cows get their hooves trimmed and none of these bulls will have their hooves trimmed. We want to be able to see their feet and we want you to see their feet, as that is a foundational component of good range cattle. None of the pictures you see have been “photoshopped.”

The Red AngusX calving ease bulls are all 75% or more Red Angus. We started this herd in 2004 from quality, predominantly red commercial cows with the primary goal of raising calving ease bulls. We have kept complete performance data and are very confident that these red bulls will be great on heifers, while at the same time producing a very marketable calf.

If you are looking for a bull that will add fertility, udder quality, structural soundness and disposition or a bull that can give you “hands off” heifer calving, I have complete confidence that you will find a bull in this offering. If you are looking to harvest heterosis in a crossbreeding program or trying to improve the consistency of a Hereford program, we think we have a bull for you. If they are injured any time in the 12 months after they are purchased so as to make them functionally infertile, we will provide you with a satisfactory replacement, if available, or issue you a credit equal to your purchase minus salvage value.

Each bull will be listed on a sheet of paper with a base price. The first one to write their buyer number under a bull will be casting a bid for that bull at the listed base price.

Additional bidders that write their buyer number on successive lines will be casting a bid $100 higher than the previous bidder (denoted beside each successive line). Any bull can sell at the listed base, given there are no additional bidders. Silent auction will end after a reasonable amount of time that will be announced to bidders, at which point each lot will be closed out individually for bidders to be given a final opportunity.

Just as with any auction, no bid should be cast unless the bidder is willing to purchase the bull at the price at which they bid (which will be clearly denoted).

Snedden Ranch is reserving an interest in several of the Hereford bulls as denoted in this catalog.

Announcements on sale day regarding these bulls and any others will take precedence over the catalog.

Snedden Ranch will need to retain several bulls outright to cover our commercial cows. Buyers will have first choice, at such a point that bids have been cast for all but three Red Angus bulls. Those three bulls will be retained by Snedden Ranch and immediately be not for sale. These same terms will

Breeding and Semen Interest from the SR MISS ACHIEVE 0133 cow family

Daughter Herd Bull Grandson

0133 has had an unmistakable impact on our herd. Lot 573 in the sale catalog will most likely be her last calf raised. At 15 years of age, she has probably had a greater impact on our herd than any other single cow. The majority of her career she has raised close marked, perfect uddered females that just flat out produce! She is in the top 1% for both UDDR and TEAT EPDs. She has produced mostly females and made every bull she was bred to look good.

In 2012 she had a son consigned to Bulls of the 21st Century Sale and he was the first place Hereford bull for both RFI and conformation. This page features only a few of her 13 natural calves and their offspring.
