Genetic Selection XI Sale The five families that join together to produce the Genetic Selection Sale want to express our thanks for your interest in each of our programs and your support over the previous years. This year we’re happy to introduce new members to the crew — Carlson Farms of Murdock, Minn. Ross and Beth and their family have been very involved in the breed, are well-respected and have a long reputation of breeding very productive Herefords for many years. Buy from them with full confidence! We know that there are many sources of great Hereford breeding cattle to select from around the country. We feel that this sale affords the opportunity to our fellow breeders to add genetics that are based on very sound breeding and husbandry practices. The five herds that are represented here are progressive and forward-looking, but don’t believe in the “bull of the month club” or whatever happens to be hot at the time. Many years of involvement by all of us in this breed that we love, and the cattle business in general, have had a cumulative effect and time has pointed us in the right direction when it comes to the traits that matter … longevity, productivity and practicality. The genetics offered here are up to date and modern and will stand the test of time precisely because they have been distilled and refined over many years of careful selection and breeding decisions. Come and join us on Saturday for a preview of the sale offering and enjoy a fabulous tri-tip dinner with us. The following morning we’ll kick ‘em all up again for you. Lunch will be served at 11 am with the sale at noon. If you need any assistance in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact any of the Genetic Selection family of breeders. We look forward to spending a beautiful fall weekend with our friends, old and new! Fred Larson and the Genetic Selection Families

Lots 1-21A The Boettcher Family welcomes you to the Genetic Selection XI and our offering of powerful heifer calves and productive young females from the cow families that have built and sustained our breeding program. We have been breeding “Performance cattle with eye appeal” backed by balanced EPD’s for 50 years. Our program emphasizes cattle that have the ability to generate profits in a wide variety of production systems and environments. We select proven AI sires and natural service pasture sires that best compliment our cow families. Foundation herd sires, Vaquero and Missle, will appear in many pedigrees as they left the sons and daughters we critically select for. Recently we have infused the genetics of TH Victor 719T, Brookview Wisconsin 40W, WLB Lego 90X, Churchill Red Bull 200Z, NJW Hometown 10Y, NJW Heavy Duty 72C, and Mohican Bar Star Revved Up. Our breeding goals are substantiated though performance measurements of birth, weaning, and yearling weights as well as calculated feedlot gains and strict reproductive evaluation. We are humbled by the success stories of how our cattle have performed for our customers and the number of repeat buyers we see each year. Please visit: www.brookviewacres.com to view videos of our sale animals.

• Eagle 24E is a massive herd bull prospect with the phenotype, pedigree and disposition to make him a favorite in any breeder’s pasture. One has to appreciate his natural thickness, square hip and extra length of body. This son of the popular Canadian sire, Lego, offers an outcross to many current pedigrees. His full sister was our high selling heifer calf at Genetic Selection X, going to the Gaffney Family and then on to a successful show career. His dam, 06U, personified the ideal Hereford cow with her great udder, deep chest, big foot and very calm disposition. 24E is homozygous polled by pedigree. The ”Eagle” can land in your pasture on Oct. 1. Will have DNA results by sale time.

• 18E was an easy choice for our lead heifer lot as she represents our program goals for the last 40 years. The structural correctness, balanced EPD profile, and deep maternal pedigree are the building blocks for the performance based Herefords our customers expect. The Rose cow family has produced many herd builders, including Brookview 242 Tequila Rose 33T that produced several high selling bulls for Ned and Jan Ward. 33T is the dam of the current popular Genex polled Hereford sire, NJW 33TB 100W Trust 167Y. Here is a chance to purchase a Hometown daughter out of a maternal sister of 33T. The 47X cow had a successful show career for the B.J. Jones Family and became a Dam of Distinction for us before we elected to flush her last year. This heifer will show and then go on to produce the breed building kind.

• Pay attention here!! 22E is a Hometown daughter out of Brandon’s cow family that has bought the farm and paid the bills. The pedigree is deep with herd builders: Hometown, Tundra 77U, 707B, Missle and Fed Ex. The EPDs are balanced with an extra shot of great udder and teat scores. Now look at the heifer… structure and phenotyope that will make her a show prospect and a front pasture cow. Hard to sell these kind, but Brandon dug deep to offer his best.

We got the great bull calves and fantastic heifer calves. We decided to bring the best one to this sale. She is a power heifer with an 80-lb. birth weight. Talk about a breeding tool!!! • Growth, power and eye appeal are all adjectives that describe our 16E heifer. She is a Domino 3027 daughter, raised by her 2-year-old dam, that will likely prove to be our high indexing heifer calf when the weaning weights are processed. Consider her Milk & Growth EPD of 61 coupled with a Marbling EPD of 0.21 and one will see why we believe this is the kind of beef cow the industry needs to be sustainable. • Looking for a solidly bred, balanced EPD herd replacement? The homework is all done here. 74E is sired by our homozygous polled Churchill Red Bull son and out of a Domino 3027 3-year-old that ratioed 108% on her first calf. Hard to craft the EPDs any better and she is fancy to boot!!! We hate selling heifer calves out of such fine young cows, but our philosophy has always been to bring the best to Genetic Selection.

• We used the American Made bull in our AI program the last two years and have elected to bring the results to Genetic Selection by offering a heifer calf and a bred heifer. The 10E heifer calf is a daughter of our favorite Trust 100W daughter, 25B. She is our thickest and best uddered 3-year-old. We can offer this heifer calf only because we are fortunate enough to have her first calf in our replacement heifer pen. Help yourself to a thick made, maternally bred heifer with a power packed pedigree.

We have used a herd bull from her mother who brings one of the biggest calves to the scale every year. • Each year when we select pairs for Genetic Selection it is hard to let go of some of our best cows. 09Z is that cow…young, good uddered, great disposition and productive. She is sporting a 113% weaning ratio on her first three calves and her best calf yet is at side and being offered in this sale. Her maternal sister was one of our feature lots in our last sale, going to the Orsten family in Minnesota. The 2017 heifer calf by Lego is one of the fanciest we have produced. • The name says it all!!! Look at her picture and one has to agree that “Elegant” fits! For those serious about a show heifer prospect for 2018, don’t overlook this heifer. She not only has the phenotype, but all the extras to back it up: like a highly productive dam, popular sire of many Canadian champions, balanced EPDs and the deep dark red color that some prefer. We hate selling these kind, but hope that she will become that foundation female in another herd after her show career.

Lots 22-51A “We’ve dug even deeper” and “this year’s sale offering is our best ever” are common phrases written in catalogs, and probably for good reason. Breeders who want to stay in the cattle business are constantly trying to improve their herds and need to just to be able to compete in the marketplace. As prospective consumers or buyers, we all benefit from this effort by our fellow cattlemen because the bar continues to be raised, as do our expectations, and better Herefords are the result. I can honestly say that we have “dug deeper” and “this year’s sale offering is our best ever!” The group of bred heifers that you get to pick from are from the top and are bred to some breed-leading sires. Also, we have selected some very high quality young cows with many productive years ahead of them and some remarkable calves at their sides. I never thought that we’d be so generous with some of our MAXX daughters. They are tremendous cows and their EPDs reflect their production capabilities. But, generations turn over and we’re always trying to improve and move forward, so we are offering several of his top daughters. The same is true of FUSION. Be sure to take a look at his daughters on the sale. We’ve never had a poor uddered FUSION cow and the power in these cows comes through in their progeny. These are just two of the highlights of our group of females on the sale. Like their paternal sisters who remain in our herd, they are truly in their prime and we’re very proud of their productivity. Take advantage of the opportunity. We think you’ll be pleased for many years to come. Fred Larson and family

• Queen is as close to a lock to be a great cow (like her mother), as you can get. • You have probably noticed several of these Goddess females in this sale. We’re not trying to rid ourselves of this cow family. On the contrary, they’ve just been so prolific in giving us heifers that it’s afforded us the chance to share them. • You may have noticed, as many of our friends have, that not many Fusion daughters come up for sale. There’s good reason for that, they are such great cows and we literally have not had one with an average or below udder. 214Z is on track to be a Dam of Distinction; 103 weaning ratio and a 357-day calving interval. • A big-bodied, freckle-faced outcross cow. You may not recognize her pedigree, but consider this; her great-grandsire, 16D, is in the pedigree of thousands of Hereford cows. He is the sire of Delaney’s Wrangler 15, who is the sire of 25L. Below that is Royal, Ft. Worth Grand Champion and Sire of Distinction. Below that is 380N, who was a donor cow for us. Below that is Yellowstone, whose full sister is the grandam of many of the popular Churchill sires, Red Bull, Stud, Pilgrim and Boomtown. Below that is Eisenhower, Canadian Agribition Calf Champion. Scarlet has a 108 lifetime weaning ratio and 110 yearling ratio. We have a beautiful Regal daughter in our replacement pasture and we are retaining her mid-April UPS Hutton 4249 bull calf. • Pasture exposed April 30 to Sept. 1, 2017, to LHF 26U Jackhammer A363 ET.

• The dam of Penny is one of our feature donors. Patience was the best show heifer we have ever bred. She was named division champion for us at JNHE, Kansas City and supreme champion female over all breeds at the Wisconsin State Fair. Penny has great rib shape and is truly three dimensional with outstanding thickness. Sired by the immortal About Time who is consistently siring national class winners. • Penny sells open.
