Welcome to Partners In Progress XXVIII. As we look forward to our third year of hosting our sale in the Spring, we find ourselves wondering where the time goes. Each year I continuously realize how meaningful the title of this sale is. You can’t put a value on Progress, or on the people that help create that Progress. The army of men and women that make this event happen are its backbone. This family and this crew are passionate about agriculture, and making sure that the next generation (whether it’s kids or cattle) is better than the one before.

Speaking of, we are also extremely proud of the young genetics we are offering again this year. We’ve never let go of a set of yearling heifers like the ones you’ll see in this catalog. In this ever-changing industry, it is impossible to stand still and be complacent…you either have to keep your program moving forward (Progress), or it will carry you backwards. I read a quote the other day that said, “Progress lies not in enhancing what is, but in advancing toward what will be.”

As of last Fall, I’ve been working here for the Smith Family for 10 years. Jennifer and I will celebrate our 10th Anniversary in May. Two children later, I can look back on these last ten years, and say… “The best years of my life.” Both Jennifer and I have been raised with such a strong appreciation for the cattle business and farming. Our children are 5th generation cattle kids. But more importantly than that, those generations before us taught us the importance of God first and family second. Notice that I didn’t say cattle third, because if you don’t get the first two right, the rest doesn’t really matter. Thank you Mr. Charles for letting us raise our family here, while trying to progress what you envisioned years ago.

As always, we welcome you to come spend the first weekend of Spring in Wadley, Georgia. We love these cattle, but our passion truly revolves around the opportunity of being in an industry with such great people.

Terms & Conditions Terms: Cash or check. Each animal to be sold to the highest bidder. The auctioneer shall settle any disputes as to bids. All cattle are to be paid for by the purchasers during or immediately after the sale and will not be released until settlement has been made.

Each animal will be at the purchaser’s risk immediately after the animal is sold.

Registration Certificates of the animal will be transferred to the buyer at the seller’s expense. All calves born before the sale will be registered by the seller. All calves born after the sale will be registered by the buyer. Each buyer must be sure to give the clerk his proper name and address for making transfers. AI certificates will not be furnished by the seller on females carrying the service of non-owned AI sires.

EPDs: The EPDs included were current as of Feb. 4, 2016 (Hereford) and Feb. 1, 2016 (Angus). The most current information can be viewed on the individual breed websites.

Health: All cattle selling will have interstate health charts required for shipping into other sections of the United States. All females who are old enough are officially calfhood vaccinated.

Breeding Guarantee: Animals sold in this sale are guaranteed by the owners to be breeders, provided thay are properly handled and cared for by the purchaser. If any fail to breed, the seller must be notified

by Oct. 1, 2016, and for open heifers by April 1, 2017, otherwise the animal is no longer guaranteed in any way. If animal is in sound, healthy condition, buyer may return it to the seller who shall have six months to test it and then, if the animal proves to be a non-breeder, a satisfactory exchange will be made or purchase price refunded. Every known blemish will be called before the animal is sold and no animal will knowingly be sold that is not sound in any way. Any changes in breeding dates will be announced sale day. Any female selling with calf at side is considered to be a breeder with no further guarantee in this regard. Cattle will sell under the suggested terms and conditions of their respective breed association, either the American Hereford Association (www.hereford. org) or the American Angus Association (www.angus. org/Pub/suggested_sale_terms.pdf).

All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk and the owners and sale manager assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents that may occur.

Her mother was our selection at a past Walker Polled Herefords sale. 43P is a 434V daughter that out produces herself every time. Austin Cole successfully showed K187, even as a cow-calf pair. Since then, she’s blessed our pastures, and we think she has an up-and-coming herd bull prospect by Burst The Bank. She’s red-eyed and perfect uddered, and like her mother, we think she’s got all the potential to out raise herself for years to come. Her September heifer calf by 88X has the potential to make it to the donor pen too someday. 88X has proven himself with progeny inside and outside of the show ring. 2015, Stonegate Farm purchased the best Sonora daughter that we’ve ever produced. Bloom was another one of those cows that we use to describe “progress.” We mated her to 755T before selling her in her entirety, and we’re selling the top heifer of that flush. R44 has the potential to show, but most importantly carry on her family’s lineage. A maternal sister by 719T will enter our donor program this year, which is why we were able to part with H100 last year. The 755T daughters are becoming very popular in the Southeast.

remember telling Bob Neligan that F182 was one of my favorite cows in the 2014 sale. He took my word for it, and took her home. Prior to selling her, I knew she needed to be flushed to 65Z. We were fortunate to get two heifers out of that mating, and we’re keeping one. I’m not sure if I kept the best one, they’re both so good.
