As the numbers of Hereford Yard cattle surges for the second straight year, the very best the Hereford breed has to offer will be at the National Western Stock Show.

For generations, the Yards at the National Western were known as THE place to merchandise and promote the best Hereford genetics found anywhere. Breeders from across the United States & Canada have come together to offer the most superior genetics in the breed for this once-a-year event! With over ninety head featured, there is not just one single lot, but each and every lot will appeal to multitudes of Hereford breeders looking to move their programs to new heights.

The bulls and females presented in this catalog represent some of the finest genetics available today in the entire breed. They are the type of genetics that can make an immediate impact in a lone generation in any program coast to coast. In addition to the live lots, we are offering some “pick of the herds” that represent the type of elite genetics that aren’t available anywhere at any time. The revenue potential that exists in this sale offering is second to none, and the impact these genetics make in the breed will be felt for generations.

There has been a lot of discussion recently regarding the new genetic abnormality DB. Due to the fluidity regarding the cattle involved, there is intentionally no potential carrier information in this catalog.

4:00 p.m. Sale the auctioneer settling any disputes. Announcements at the sale by the owner, sale manager or auctioneer will take precedence over statements in the catalog. Each animal becomes the buyer’s risk as soon as sold but will be cared for by the seller until load out or for a reasonable period of time. All transactions will be in U.S. dollars.

Guarantee: All cattle will sell under the suggested terms and conditions of the American Hereford Association.

Health: Health of the consignments is excellent. Individual health papers will be furnished for shipment in the United States. All animals become the property of the purchaser at the time of sale, and we strongly recommend that you insure your purchases. Bulls over one year of age have been fertility tested and will guarantee semen to freeze. Bulls have been trich tested. All sale cattle are P.I. tested negative.

Insurance: Sheila Jensen (785) 262-1116 Delivery: Delivery costs and arrangements of sale animals are the responsibility of the purchaser. Sale personnel, consignors, exhibitors, and various reputable trucking firms will be on hand to assist with transportation arrangements.

Performance information: All EPDs are current according to the official AHA record as of December 1st, 2023, and are subject to change.

Payment: Payment for each lot in the 2024 Herefords in the Yards Sale is to be immediately after the sale. The buyers who choose to be billed need to make payment as soon as possible after the sale. Interest will be accrued on unpaid balances starting on March 1st, 2024, at the rate of 1.5% per month, 18% annually.

TOPP HEREFORDS CHOICE OF BRED HEIFERS

This is the third time we have offered the opportunity to tap into the number one resource we have … our replacement bred heifers! The first two times we’ve offered this choice lot, the response has been overwhelming. The only time we offer this is in this yearly Herefords in the Yards Sale. Our maternal battery is bred for and focus on one primary goal … raising commercial bulls. If you study the results, year in and out the Topp Herefords Bull Sale is one of the top performing sales anywhere in North America.

We believe that a true Seedstock operation’s commitment is to develop genetics that ultimately drive the meat industry forward. Our success is measured by our contribution to the sustainability of our commercial cow-calf customers.

Our cow herd is built on a foundation off four core values: udder quality, soundness, fertility, and pounds. The structure by which we analyze these traits may be called old-fashioned by some. However, the process is real and exceptionally ruthless.

Udder quality is determined at calving time by a simple 1-2 grading system. A 1 is great and a 2 is a cull. Soundness is determined during spring vaccination season. A female with a cracked foot, bad joints, poor disposition or hard-doing is sorted of and not even bred. Fertility sorts itself out quickly with a 45-day breeding season. Finally, pounds weaned. If they don’t bring in a heavy calf, there is a pretty good chance she won’t be calving here next Spring. To round out our selection process, we have been DNA testing since 2013 to provide parentage, identify genetic defect status and increase the accuracy of EPDs. Buyer will have the opportunity to select from over 300 bred heifers. The majority of these bred heifers are AI bred. All will be calved out to further enhance the selection process. Selection is to be determined between May 1 and May 15, 2024.

November 15th, 2019… the Hereford breed was forever changed when Dale purchased ½ interest in BR Validated B413 6035 7098 from Birdwell Ranch. Since that day, her progeny have been some of the highest demand cattle of any breed including major AI sires such as Kingdom, Red Thunder, Redbird, Wall Street, Bullnanza among others. 7098 is the #5 female in the breed with her combination of Ribeye Area & Marbling, and when you take her production EPDs into account, she is still #1 in the entire breed.

Perhaps most important is her phenotypic makeup. A wise man once said, “not all high numbered cattle have to be ugly.” 7098 is the prime example of that.

Now that moves us into these three daughters. You’ve got choice of the 3 females representing the top of each age group that Dale has ever produced. These three females represent the future of the Churchill Cattle Co. program, and you have the opportunity to share in that future by selecting a donor interest in one of the three. The Homozygous Polled 2213 bred heifer is a carbon copy of her mother and a full sister to the popular New Standard bull. The fall born Expedition daughter is #1 among all the Expedition progeny, male or female, for carcass EPDs and she’s still at the top of the breed for production and maternal numbers. Rounding out the trio is the elite Final Print heifer baby. Among all Final Print progeny on record, 3121L is #1 for MARB & #2 for CHB$ along with being the #2, 7098 daughter for WW. Colyer Herefords is without a doubt one of the long-standing, most successful programs in the nation. For their inaugural offering in the pen bull show at the National Western, Cane Creek is bringing a set of bulls backed by two of the most proliic, proven donor cows the breed has to offer. When 45C came to the Creek, she had already cemented herself as the “Mother of Herd Bulls”. Her exploits are far too numerous to list here, but the sons she’s produced are some of the most sought-after genetics in the breed. The three sons featured here live up to her reputation.

First up, the Long Haul son with moderate CE, explosive growth and top carcass is a bull that will supply the sort of power many breeders are hunting for while still moving the needle for carcass merit.

He ranks in the top 1% of the breed for 11 traits! Of the 54 45C sons on record, 304L is the #2 Marbling bull. Next are his two Endure half-brothers. Both offer explosive growth with huge REA EPDs. These donor prospects are a great representation of one of the truly unique seedstock operations in the entire country.

To begin with, 3059 is sired by the 2022 NWSS Grand Champion Horned Bull, C 8086 Sancho 1084. Loaded with style & eye appeal, she has a powerful set of growth & carcass numbers wrapped around moderate calving ease. Her highly productive Kahuna dam has posted progeny ratios of 4@106 for WW and 2@104 for YW. Bowling Ranch is making their return to the National Western with a pen of maternal sisters that are backed by one off the best females to come from Idaho. C 1008 Milky Way 6133 was the top selling female in the 2019 Colyer Herefords Female sale where Nancy bought ½ interest in her. A full sister to Eye Candy and Candy Cane, her daughters have gone on to be productive dams for Colyer as well.

These three maternal sisters have the type and kind to be exceptional females, but when you take into account their number profiles they become sure shot donor prospects. First up is the Genesis, Layla 3310. Excellent growth & carcass along side moderate calving ease. Lisa Marie is sired by the 0195 bull that was the sire of the Champion Polled Bull in Reno. Haxton Hoffman’s first time ever exhibiting pen cattle at the NWSS last year earned him the Reserve Champion Pen of 3 Females. This year he makes his return with another great set of May ET sisters that all have futures at the backdrop.

The first heifer is a full sister to last year’s Reserve Champion pen and sired by the 2020 NWSS Grand Champion Polled Bull, H The Profit 8426 ET. He was the top seller in the 2019 Hoffman Ranch Bull Sale.

The next two heifers in this pen are sired by H Montgomery 7437 ET. Montgomery was a member of the Hoffman 2018 Grand Champion Carload of Bulls at the National Western along with being named the Reserve Grand Champion Polled Bull later that month at Fort Worth.

The dam of these ET sisters consists of multiple banner winners as well. Their dam was Division 3 Polled Champion at the 2019 JNHE and the maternal granddam won reserve division at both the 2018 NWSS and 2017 JNHE. These three girls are the kind that are going to make May divisions incredibly difficult from coast to coast!

Kendi Miigerl and her family are on a roll! In their first trip ever to the NWSS Pen of 3 Heifer Show in 2022, they were selected Grand Champion. Now, just this past fall at the 2023 NAILE, their bull KLM Rollin Harley 107J ET was named Grand Champion Bull! Now for the 2024 NWSS, they’re bringing their best set of heifers yet!

The first two full sisters are daughters of and the first opportunity to acquire progeny of that Louisville National Champion, Harley 107J. 2024 marks the 82nd year with registered Herefords for Larson Hereford Farm. Data collection has been at the forefront of Fred’s breeding philosophy since the 1960’s, and this great pen of brood cow prospects is a direct result of that.

Without selecting for any extremes or fads, Fred has focused his matings on producing daughters that raise high performing sons.

They are all three daughters of the 2022 National Western Hereford Sale top selling bull, KJ 7603 Venture 309J ET. For our first consignment to the Herefords in the Yards Sale, we wanted to bring a true representation of our program. This set of females is exactly what we were hoping for when we found 2047.

Raised by our good friends at Innisfail, he combines the carcass merit of 4013 with the stellar 871E female. It’s hard to find a more proven pedigree for a herd bull that throws this kind of consistency.

All of these heifers were raised by first time mommas and have blown away our expectations. They are stamped with muscle, volume and performance in an eye appealing, cowy package. • In 2018, we were lucky enough to be presented with an opportunity to purchase RV Golden Lady 5064 pregnancies from Fawcett Elm Creek Ranch in South Dakota. Not only have the bulls had an incredible impact on our program, but the females have brought daughters like these to the pasture that make it very difficult for us to let go.
