Seven years ago, a hero that goes by the name Michael Jackson was lost. Contributions to music and dance, along with his publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades. Michael Jackson's humanitarian work recognized on May 14, 1984 brought him to the White House to receive an award from President Ronald Reagan for his support of charities that helped people overcome alcohol and drug abuse. Michael Jackson led me to inspire others and volunteer my time to help the world as he did with his music and charity organizations. I cannot compare myself to Michael Jackson but I would be privileged to share what I have been able to accomplish through his inspiration. To expand my knowledge, I joined a Global Studies Book Study, a program that strengthens the understanding of the interconnections of global environmental issues. I work with a group of people to research articles on global issues and create presentations that argue for solutions as a member of the book study group. Given the opportunity, I participate in a Water Works program through my school to bring clean water to a village in Kenya and walked ten miles to help raise money for the program.
