Pro School Uniforms
According to a national 2013 survey, over 62% of US school leaders believe school uniforms or formal dress code policies impact students in a beneficial way. Many people look to school uniforms as a way of enclosing students and taking away their self expression, but many people do not know the true impact of a school uniform on society. A decision to make schooluniforms mandatory would be the most effective conclusion for students since school uniforms promote learning, allow students to express themself, and create a "better environment" for all students. Having a school uniform will promote learning since school uniforms lessen distractions taking place in the classroom. According to the article "Appearances are Destructive" author Mark...show more content...
School uniforms help to build a sense of community within the school, as they create an atmosphere of belonging. This essence of unity can positively affect a child's attitude toward school and can lead to better learning and improved attendance. Just as an athletic team's uniforms promote unity and spirit, a school uniform has the same lasting effect. A 2002 study of over 1,000 Texas middle school students found that students in uniform "reported significantly more positive perceptions of belonging in their school community than reported by students in the standard dress group." Uniforms create a feeling of pride with being part of a "team" and can boost a student's confidence and loyalty greatly. Arnold Goldstein, PhD, head of the Center for Research on Aggression at Syracuse University, stated that "uniforms help...along with making troubled students feel they have the support of a community." With school uniforms in place, all students no matter the age or gender will feel included. Studies have shown that students part of an organization feel all 3 traits of harmony: Pride, unity, and confidence. Students who feel this sense of harmony will not only be more connected with their peers, but will also feel included and proud to be part of that

Are School Uniforms a Good or Bad Idea? School uniforms has been the cause of debate for many years now. Most students like to wear school uniforms because they believe uniforms make schools ("safer for students") and create "level playing fields" where every student has equal opportunity to succeed and they all apply the same set of rules. However, students and even most parents don't agree with the enforcement with school uniforms; stating that uniforms take away the right of ("self–expression"). School uniforms are not a negative thing to have. Yes, uniforms limit what the students have to choose to wear to school every day, but it doesn't limit them from learning; the only reason they are in school. Although some parents oppose...show more content... However, such an argument completely ignores the fact that students with uniforms behave properly and focus completely on their academic careers and may improve their attendance and discipline (Elisabetta Gentile and Scott A. Imberman, 2010). For example, a 2010 study by researchers at the University of Houston found that the average absence rate for girls in middle and high school decreased by 7% after the introduction of uniforms. The study also found that "behavioral problems shift[ed] towards less severe infractions (Elisabetta Gentile and Scott A. Imberman, 2010). Another study also showed positive result that school uniform policies improve rate of attendance, graduation and suspension (Virginia Ann Bendel Draa, 2005). So this all proves that school uniforms have impacted in positive results, which we can ignore. The final argument stated by the opponents of school uniforms is that school uniforms emphasizes on ("socio–economic divisions") that the school uniforms are supposed to eliminate. They believe it will not lower the socio–economic status of the people because rich families will stay buy their children every now and then, but the poor families will still have one pair to in the whole school year (US Department of Education and Bureau of Justice Statistics, 2014). On the other hand, proponents of school uniforms say that school uniform may save money. Parents can Get
Uniforms are a Must in Today's Climate What if America could cut down the number of school shootings by changing one thing? Would they be willing to change it? What they could have a little more piece of mind when their children go on a school trip by changing one thing? Would they be willing to change it? What if someone knew that their child would not be sent home from school because of what they are wearing by changing a single thing? Would they change it? School uniforms are the change we need. A school shooter would stand out in a second. A child would be easily spotted in a crowd of people on that school trip. A girl would not get sent home from school because everyone could see her shoulder. School uniforms could save so many lives, from school shootings to a child getting lost on a school felid trip and much in between. If every child and every adult wore the same uniform it would make a school shooter stand out rather quickly. Even if the person does not look like a threat, even a child would realize that person does not work here. In turn would then make the student tell someone that does work there that something is wrong. Making it much harder for a stranger to walk into a school without standing out. "In Long Beach, CA, after two years of a district–wide K–8 mandatory uniform policy, reports of assault and battery in the district's schools decreased by 34% . . . fighting incidents went down by 51%, sex offenses were cut by 74%, . . . possession of drugs went
There has been a big controversy over a particular subject around the world. This particular subject is one that has been debated over by many schools and people, including parents, teachers, and students. It is also one that has been a topic of essays and articles for years. If you haven't guessed what this particular subject is by now, well, too bad. Just kidding. Some people may say school uniforms lessen absenteeism, while others may say that is not necessarily true. My school does not have school does not have school uniforms– all it has is a dress code that describes what not to wear.
In my opinion, schools should have school uniforms. This is because of a variety of reasons. One is that school uniforms give a sense of equality. Another is that school uniforms keep students concentrated on their work. Finally, school uniforms increase student safety and decrease crime.
First and foremost, school uniforms give a sense that everyone is equal. Keith Metcalfe, deputy headmaster of Harrow School, states, "Like so many things at Harrow, our uniform is a great leveller... Whatever they bring to the Hill, they all come together on equal footing, to be identified and judged by their character and contribution alone." The point that Metcalfe is trying to make is that school uniforms give people a sense of equality. He also claims that students are/should be judged only by character and contribution. These two points are very important because it shows that students should not be judged by their physical appearance, but by who they are inside. This might lessen tension between students and stop physical violence. No man is greater than another– people have their own talents, and all people are equal. School uniforms stress that. Second of all, school uniforms keep students concentrated on work, not clothing. In 2008, Hillary Clinton said, "Take that [clothing choices] off the table and put the focus on school, not on what you're wearing." Through this sentence, Hillary Clinton is trying to tell us not to focus on clothes, but on schoolwork. School uniforms can help with this– students do not have to choose or think about clothes. This can be very helpful when studying or doing schoolwork– it can be done quickly
