Wood is a natural raw material. As such, variations in density resulting from varying growing conditions of trees are to be expected and can influence the actual weight of a blade. At Butterfly, we strife to make sure these weight variations are kept at a minimum, however variations of a few grams in weight of a blade may occur. Reaction Property
The Reaction Property is the quantified value illustrating the base speed of a blade. A low reaction property signifies a lower speed of the ball after contact with the blade. A high reaction property signifies a higher speed of the ball after impact.
Vibration Property
The Vibration Property is the quantified value illustrating the feeling of a blade on impact. A low vibration property in general signifies slower vibration on ball contact and denotes a blade with a softer touch. A high vibration property in general signifies faster vibration of the blade on contract with the ball and denotes a blade with a harder touch.
BUTTERFLY CARBON -FIBER TECHNOLOGIES
The regulations of the International Table Tennis Federation state: “At least 85 % of the blade by thickness shall be of natural wood.” In other words, we may adopt any special materials for the remaining 15 % for reinforcement. However, no high-performance rackets will be produced only by attaching some special materials without analysis; balance is crucial to make the best product. Butterfly will continue to research materials that best suit the techniques of future generations as well as continually improving the quality of the blade.
Very thin fiber obtained by finely loosening plant fibers such as wood to Nanometer size, Cellulose Nano Fiber (CNF) enables blades with low vibration, providing the feeling of “holding the ball” to the blade, despite high reaction values.
New processing techniques allow a denser link between Carbon and ZL-Fiber, leading to a blade with very little energy loss on the edges and a bigger and more homogenous “high reaction area”. This enhances the strengths of ZLC blades even more. Blades with Super ZLC fibers are fast with high precision and a direct touch, yet produce a fantastic feeling for any spin play.
Linking ZL-Fibers and carbon increases the stability and stiffness of the blade and results in a bigger “high reaction area” and less energy loss around the edges. ZLC blades are usually stable and fast with a harder touch that allows very precise play as well as spinny top spins. In comparison to softer blades, especially all-wood blades, the ball dwell time of ZLC blades is reduced, requiring a certain degree of technical skill to produce high amounts of spin.
ZL-Fiber is a remarkably thin and hardened material lending speed, lightness and a homogenous bounce to the blade. Blades with ZLF are commonly known for their lightness and controlled, soft touch with an increased ball dwell time that makes it easier to actively create spin compared to harder blades.
Tamca 5000 is a carbon fiber, enhancing stability and precision of a blade, enabling the production of fast and dynamic blades with a moderate weight. Usually, T5000 blades are fast, direct and precise with a hard touch, supporting especially powerful fast play close to the table.
Super Arylate-Carbon achieves a higher bounce by weaving in a larger amount of fibers than conventional Arylate-Carbon. In addition, adjusting the ratio of Arylate and carbon materials maintains blade suppleness which is a characteristic achieved via the use of Arylate-Carbon.
Arylate-Carbon is a fiber used in many popular Butterfly blades and is used to produce stability and precision while providing increased ball dwell time compared to harder blades. ALC blades offer versatility, its typical “touch” in topspin play is favored by many professional players as well.
The CAF (Control Assist Fiber) fiber increases the stability of a blade and provides a constant bounce all across the blade’s surface. As a result, the precision of the blade is increased, as is the feeling of control during active play.
