OPPORTUNITIES ARE ABUNDANT
CAREER READINESS: NOT AFTER GRADUATION. FROM DAY ONE. From your first semester, you’ll intentionally connect rigorous academics to the skills, experiences, and confidence you’ll carry into whatever comes next.
EXPERIENCE: NOT OPTIONAL. EXPECTED. Every student graduates with meaningful hands-on experiences that put ideas into action: through research, internships, community engagement, creative work, or global learning. Because confidence isn’t earned by watching. It’s built by doing.
MENTORSHIP: NOT WHEN YOU ASK. WHEN YOU ARRIVE. At Butler, every student is paired with a dedicated career mentor who helps you connect your interests to opportunities, your questions to direction, and your potential to purpose.
SOME UNIVERSITIES OFFER OPPORTUNITIES. Your undergraduate journey at Butler is designed to intentionally weave together the experiences that lead to real-world success: not as extras you have to seek out, but as expectations you can count on.

OPPORTUNITY: ON CAMPUS. AND BEYOND IT. Butler intentionally integrates the opportunities of a major city into an undergraduate experience designed to build connections, confidence, and career readiness. From internships and employer partnerships to service and leadership, we bring together the people, experiences, and possibilities that will help you grow far beyond the boundaries of our campus.
BUILD THEM IN.

Strategic Communication: Public Relations and Advertising with a concentration in Organizational Communication and Leadership
New to Indiana, Patrick started his first year at Butler with a natural sense of nervousness and excitement. With very few familiar faces around him, he looked to organizations to help him find his footing, first by joining club frisbee and then the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.

With encouragement from his fraternity brothers, he chose to run for a leadership position. Not only did he get it, but he played a major role in the fraternity winning a national award from their headquarters. That same year, he became a Student Orientation Guide, excited to help usher in the next class of Bulldogs.
After spending the summer in London with Butler students and faculty, Patrick entered his junior year excited to continue honing his leadership skills. As the Creative Manager for Five Fountains, Butler’s student-run communications agency, he got to be a part of planning and producing an ESPN-sponsored event.

As the incoming President of the Butler Institute for Sports and Entertainment and newly promoted Creative Director for Five Fountains, Patrick plans to finish out his Butler experience the only way he knows how to: Boldly.

BECOME YOUR BOLDEST SELF
Experience isn’t a bonus. It’s the baseline. Students don’t choose Butler because they want to play it safe; they come here to build a life where they feel challenged, championed, and celebrated. When you attend the University that sets the standard for bold, you become the kind of person who refuses to settle for anything less. KARA SABANSKI

HOW I’M BUILDING A BOLD LIFE I was selected to attend the American Speech Language and Hearing Sciences Convention in Washington, D.C., alongside three staff members and four other students. While I was there, I had the opportunity to present my own research for my honors thesis, discussing the differences between meaningful conversation and music in easing the symptoms of dementia patients.

HOW I’M BUILDING A BOLD LIFE Throughout my time at Butler, I had the opportunity to intern at five different organizations across a range of industries. The Lacy School of Business has given me the opportunity to try new things, break barriers, and lead in ways I never could have imagined. I feel more than prepared to enter the workforce well before graduation.
HOW I’M BUILDING A BOLD LIFE This year, I had the chance to serve as the Vice President of the Pre-Physician Assistant Club. This experience has pushed me to grow not only as a leader, but as a future healthcare provider. It has reinforced the importance of clear communication, adaptability, and collaboration, all skills that extend far beyond student organizations and into patient care.

MOSTLY A’s: FRATERNITY AND SORORITY LIFE You want your friends to feel like family. Fraternities and sororities offer you the kind of people who show up for you on day one and stay in your corner long after graduation. Beyond that, you’ll get to be part of years of tradition and contribute to a cause you care deeply about.
B
MOSTLY B’s: CLUB AND INTRAMURAL SPORTS You love nothing more than being out on the field. Whether you come alive in a competitive setting or look forward to low-key intramural tournaments, you’re the kind of person who loves the people just as much as the sport you’re playing.
C
MOSTLY C’s: PERFORMANCE GROUPS For you, the stage is where everything makes the most sense. You live for latenight rehearsals and the adrenaline rush that happens right before the curtain opens. You do best with a community of folks who crave that same feeling and are committed to the craft.
D
MOSTLY D’s: LEADERSHIP IN STUDENT ORGS When you see something that can be improved, you don’t just sit on the sidelines. You step up and help build it. You thrive best in situations where you can help solve problems, delegate tasks, and use your strategic thinking to help strengthen the assignment at hand.
E
MOSTLY E’s: IDENTITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS A community that centers around a shared understanding makes you feel like your truest self. You feel a strong connection to those who share similar backgrounds, cultures, or identities. A BOLD LIFE BEGINS AT BUTLER

Meet the mascot. We can’t call ourselves Bulldogs without a real one waddling around campus. The live mascot program made its Blue debut in 2000, and since then, three of the goodest boys and one perfect girl have reigned as Butler’s most beloved (and iconic) symbol.
Then fall in love at the Bulldog Beauty Contest. A beauty contest for bulldogs? We’re in. This beloved Homecoming event includes categories like “Best Dressed” and “Best Mean Mug.” Category winners go head to head for the coveted “Best in Show” title, kicking off the day’s tailgating festivities in front of thousands of fans.
Watch the chariot race. Homecoming Week isn’t complete without this event hosted by Sigma Chi. Students, alumni, and community members line the streets to see fraternity teams race homemade chariots down Hampton Drive.

MEET DEMICO SOUTHERN JR. For Demico Southern Jr., owning a business gives him a chance to set his own schedule, do things his way, and earn an income through work that he truly enjoys. That’s why, in August 2025, Southern launched his own family food truck. Big Benz BBQ grew out of a small catering business he had been running alongside his family for about a year. He loved those gigs, but wanted to build something more established. With inspiration from his parents, lots of research, and some basic entrepreneurship skills—gained at meetings with Butler Trustee and Lecturer Dr. Anthony Murdock ’17 — the food truck idea was born. The truck is open Fridays and Saturdays, and it recently moved to a new location with more parking to accommodate the crowds. Southern says it’s been a challenge to adjust to growing demand, but with his goal of using the business to help pay for school, it’s a challenge he’s grateful to have. 16

MEET THOMAS CHANDLER Thomas Chandler was always drawn to discovery. He came to Butler to ask big questions, to see what he was capable of, and to contribute to work that could change lives far beyond campus. Over the last year, he worked alongside Organic Chemistry professor Dr. Anne Wilson and a team of scientists from Redwire Space to build an experiment ambitious enough to go to space. The project tests whether gold nanospheres — tiny particles already used in everything from pregnancy tests to cancer treatment—can grow larger when synthesized in microgravity. It’s the kind of question that’s usually studied by seasoned researchers, not a Psychology major still finishing his degree. But with Wilson’s mentorship, hands-on lab time, and Butler’s growing partnership with Redwire Space, Chandler found himself doing exactly that.
“ I am beyond thankful that I have gotten to be a part of such a meaningful project as an undergrad.”

SUPPORT THAT NEVER STOPS. At Butler, career readiness isn’t just something we say—it’s something we do. One of the best ways our professors prepare you for what’s next is to be there every step of the way. “ Mentorship is being that safe space for students to reach out to when they need it.” DR. SETH CAREY, FOUNDING NURSING PROGRAM DIRECTOR “ Oftentimes, students come into college feeling like everyone is in an opposite corner of them. We want students to know that we’re in their corner — and it starts on day one.”

Has there been a moment in your life, professional or personal, where you’ve been able to look back and say, “This happened because of Butler”? “I have felt this every time I have reached a milestone in my career. I truly believe I would not have gotten where I am today without a Butler education. However, more importantly, I have felt this way during smaller moments. I have had the honor to treat patients who are either Butler alumni or feel connected with the school in some way. The trust I sense from those patients is almost unmatched. I see a certain comfort in their eyes when they learn I am a Butler grad. I suspect that this occurs in part because they trust in my education, but far more so because they feel they are being treated by someone from their Butler family. That is a direct result of the culture and environment at Butler University.”

What was one of the most meaningful academic experiences you had at Butler? “Deciding to pursue a second degree in Political Science was important in my development as a student and person. It challenged my thinking and expanded my horizons, both in and out of the classroom. After taking an elective with Dr. Siobhán McEvoy-Levy, I was intrigued to take a second Poly Sci elective, and then a third, and then kept pushing. She was a wonderful, brilliant mind who fostered an environment of respect and openness. And she had a unique way of making the mundane interesting and applicable.”
