Advancing Butler From the desk of Tom Borrego Executive Director
June 2020—VOL 8— Issue Three
While the world is different right now, at Butler we wanted to ensure that the commencement season still took place and was as special as possible for our graduates. The college worked diligently to produce a virtual commencement, available to view on Butler’s YouTube channel. The Foundation continued our tradition of awarding transfer scholarships. While you can read about all of our transfer scholarship winners in the spring magazine heading toward your mailboxes soon, I want to highlight our 2020 R.D. Hubbard Award of Excellence winner, Alanis Balza (pictured). Alanis was an outstanding Butler student with strong academic achievements, campus involvement, and work outside of college. Alanis was in Headliners and the Noteables quartet—these alone would be enough to keep a student busy! We are proud to help Alanis complete her music education degree at Emporia State University. R.D. Hubbard passed away this April. He, his wife Joan Dale, and their foundation have been a cornerstone of our institution for decades. We are proud that their gifts to Butler carry the Hubbard name and will always continue to inspire, empower, and transform the lives of our students every year.
