June 2019—VOL 7— Issue Three

Changing student lives at Butler and beyond is what I will always remember as I enter retirement on June 28. The two young women below, both deserving scholarship recipients, are part of the reason we come to work every day at Butler. Read more about these astonishingly talented ladies in our magazine! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to lead the Foundation and impact these students.

Claudia Hess—Our 2019 Hubbard Award of Excellence winner.

Claudia excelled academically and athletically. She plans to study engineering at Kansas State University after a summer internship at Florida Atlantic University.

Ashley Small—First recipient of the Trustee Scholarship, made possible by Chris and Susan Addington, Ron and Barb Engelbrecht, Pete and Kay Ferrell, Lance and Lisa Lechtenberg, and Greg and Helen Joyce

Seventy students completed Early College Academies this year, earning two degrees simultaneously. This unique program provides high school juniors and seniors with the opportunity to earn college credits and experience. Butler offers several academy options including health care, business and entrepreneurship, and engineering just to name a few.

DID YOU KNOW? More than 600 graduates attended commencement in May! For the first time in our history, the ceremony was held at the BG Products Veterans Sports Complex. Rather than two ceremonies, we had one and were excited with the results! The college looks forward to continuing to improve the process and enjoy using our amazing stadium for many years.

Two of our dear benefactors passed away recently.

Betty Hiebert and Betty Carlson sought to impact the lives of students.

Through the Clyde Hiebert Presidential Scholarship for Science and the Eugene E. Carlson Music Scholarship, dozens of Grizzlies have benefited greatly from their generosity and that of their families. All of our donors mean so much to us and to the institution we serve. While our greatest joy is to get to know you and your passion for helping educate students, we are always sad to say goodbye. Many thanks to these kind women who are an example to us all!
