August 2019—VOL 7— Issue Four

I am excited to be at Butler Community College and especially at the Foundation as Executive Director. Butler has been a paragon of innovation for community college for decades and it is a joy to be part of their journey now. The Foundation is blessed with a wonderful staff who have the best interests of our donors and students in mind and it shows in everything they do. It is clear to me that you, as a donor, alum, or friend, have invested in an organization that functions with the highest integrity. We are committed to serving all of Butler’s students to help them achieve their dreams, but we cannot do that without your support. Thank you for all past, present, and future opportunities that you have provided. As the school year begins in a couple of weeks, I look forward to the opportunity to meet more of Butler’s wonderful patrons who are true difference-makers.

Sonny Noel passed away in March 2018. As a Butler student,

Sonny was very involved in the basketball and football teams during the late 1950s when both of those sports really took off at the college. Thank you to True Knowles for bringing his accomplishments during his days as a Grizzly to our attention.

DID YOU KNOW? Classes begin August 19! Our

campuses will be swarming with thousands of students and we look forward to welcoming them warmly every year. If you know of a student or students who are interested in taking classes, please send them our way so we can set them on the best path possible.

Butler will present three Excellence in Diversity Awards in October. Cargill, the Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Yolanda Camarena will all be honored at a breakfast event sponsored by Spirit AeroSystems, Inc., Meritrust Credit Union, and Westar Energy. The event helps raise awareness for Advance Kansas, a program designed to bring leaders from all demographic groups and across all sectors of society and to educate them in effective ways to engage pressing diversity issues in their communities.
