George Enescu International Competition September 4-18, the Romanian Athenaeum

For this edition of the competition, 34 young musicians from across the world have qualified for the semi-finals, in the Cello, Violin, and Piano sections. Additionally, 22 orchestral and chamber works will enter the competition in the Composition Section, where an Originality Award will also be given out.

The Competition’s programme includes an Extraordinary Opening Concert, scheduled for September 4, five recitals performed by established artists, as well as the Cello, Violin, and Piano Finals where three of the best young musicians selected by the specialised jury, accompanied by the “George Enescu” Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform a full concert. The winner of the competition will be announced at the end of the evening.

Bucharest Jazz Festival September 16-18, Combinatul Fondului Plastic

After a three-year pause, Bucharest Jazz Festival returns with performances from ZMEI3, Sorin Zlat, Ion Tuntu Baciu Jr., Trigon, Eva Maria Garlea & Robert Cozma, and a collaboration between Luiza Zan and Big Band Radio directed by Ionel Tudor.

Dokstation Music Documentary Film Festival September 21-25, several locations

DokStation Music Documentary Film Festival is the only music documentary festival in Romania, designed to attract broad communities by mixing two of the most popular arts—film and music—, through screenings of music documentary films and live concerts, in buildings with special history and tradition, as well as in unconventional spaces.

Art Safari – 10th edition Starting September 23, Dacia-Romania Palace

The main exhibition of the 10th edition of Art Safari is “Seeking Truth: The Art of John Constable,” curated by Dr Emily Knight and Katharine Martin and organised by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, which covers works by English landscape painter John Constable. The public will also get a chance to see works by Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt van Rijn, Claude Lorrain, William Turner, Thomas Gainsborough, and Jacob van Ruisdael, as well as an international pavilion for Korean Beauty in Poster Art by Byoungil Sun and others.

Sting September 30, Cluj-Napoca

After a rescheduling from the March 2022 original date, Sting is set to perform in Cluj as part of his European “My Songs” tour. For this event, Sting will be accompanied by an ensemble made up of Dominic Miller (guitar), Josh Freese (drums), Rufus Miller (guitar), Kevon Webster (keyboard), Shane Sager (harmonica), and Melissa Musique and Gene Noble (backing vocals). The concert will feature hits such as “Fields of Gold,” “Shape of my Heart,” “Roxanne,” “Demolition Man,” “Englishman in New York,” and many others.
