Oulu Automotive Cluster is an open ecosystem with 120 companies and 33 research, education and development organisations. Oulu Automotive Cluster helps automotive brands to design and develop sustainable electric and autonomous vehicles to meet new business models. As vehicles are turning into smartphones on wheels, they need reliable connectivity, software updates over the air, and new innovations for user interfaces, materials, and services.
Companies and researchers in Oulu have globally unique expertise in radio technologies, printed intelligence, embedded software, IoT solutions, and 6G research.
Oulu Automotive Cluster is managed by Business Oulu, the business development agency of City of Oulu.

PRINTED INTELLIGENCE – Oulu is the home of printed intelligence, which is revolutionising the way in which the automotive industry is designing, developing, and manufacturing sustainable vehicles and electric vehicle batteries. PrintoCent Industry Cluster focuses on boosting the industrialisation and commercialisation of printed intelligence. 5G/6G CONNECTIVITY – Oulu is one of the leading radio research hot spots globally. The 6G Flagship Ecosystem is a collaborative network of researchers, ICT enterprises, and businesses capitalising on the prospects of new wireless technology – together. The University of Oulu’s 6G Flagship research program conducts ground-breaking research on future data networks and data traffic in numerous European projects. The University of Oulu provides both research and testing environments for software defined connected vehicles.

NOKIA – Oulu has been one of Nokia’s key locations for over 40 years, and Nokia operations in Oulu are often referred to as the ‘Home of Radio’. The Oulu site combines radio research, development, and manufacturing, with a focus on 5G base station products and software. Oulu also hosts Nokia’s flagship factory and has been chosen by World Economic Forum as an Advanced 4th Industrial Revolution Lighthouse, reflecting leadership and proven success in adopting and implementing future technologies at scale. • OuluZone+ is a research and training centre for autonomous vehicles and heavy utility vehicles. In a world-first, OuluZone+ offers a high speed 5G network in an arctic test environment. ouluzoneplus.com
• NUVE-LAB is for developing and testing multifuel, hybrid and e-mobility solutions of up to 1.2 MW maximum power and a maximum vehicle weight of 65 tonnes. The laboratory has the Hardware in the Loop (HIL) and Dynamometer in the Loop (DIL) extensions: test and develop close to final working circumstances of the vehicle.
