H OSTED AT SUU
OCTOBER 4-6
CEDAR CITY, UTAH
Welcome to the One Utah Summit held on the beautiful Southern Utah University campus.
This year marks the 34th anniversary of the Utah Rural Summit as the premier gathering place for convening Utah’s top leaders and decisionmakers to discuss rural Utah’s challenges and opportunities.
The One Utah Summit proudly supports Gov. Cox’s “One Utah Roadmap” initiative focusing on rural Utah. One of the Roadmap’s six priorities is an increased focus on rural Utah and meeting its critical policy and infrastructure needs. The governor realizes a tailored approach is needed for capitalizing on opportunities in rural parts of our state while convening influencers to discuss the unique challenges.
I hope you enjoy the three days of informative, fun-filled activities, and networking opportunities.

Energy is a growing and important industry in Utah, and specifically in Rural Utah. Our panel will discuss what we, as a state, need to ensure we have a bright energy future from an education perspective.
What workforce do we need, what education do we need, and what are the many paths to get there?
Public lands dominate Utah’s landscape. With 67% of the state being owned by the Federal government, these lands are critical to our economy, culture, and lifestyle. Everyone uses and enjoys public lands in their own way. Recreation, whether it be park visitation, climbing, biking, or hiking deep into the backcountry, can and does coexist with responsible extractive industries. Both are responsible for fueling the state’s economic engine. Timber harvesting, mining, and grazing are traditional uses that currently coexist with Utah’s broad recreational portfolio. This panel will discuss how creative planning and collaboration can promote conservation and land uses that are not mutually exclusive. Join us for a discussion of how ‘One Utah’ really can do it all.
The Unified Economic Opportunity Commission launched in 2021! The Intermountain Power Project in Millard County is on track for 2025 startup of new electricity generating facilities that will bring more than $2 billion in new investment to the community.
IPP Renewed includes installation of new natural gas-fueled electricity generating units capable of utilizing hydrogen for 840 megawatts net generation output; modernization of the Project’s Southern Transmission System linking IPP to Southern California; and the development of green hydrogen production and longterm storage. Renewable energy-powered electrolysis will split water into oxygen and hydrogen, storing the hydrogen in underground salt caverns for use as fuel for the electricity-generating turbines.
This transformational project will create:
• Reduced emissions and other environmental impacts
• Reduced water consumption
• Continuing economic contributions for decades to come
• An energy hub attracting other development opportunities
