Work began on the carving project on Monday, Nov. 8, and the project became a popular spot for people to see the sculpture come to life. All dogs over the age of 5 months must be vaccinated against rabies and licensed and tagged through your city, village or town. A rabies vaccination certificate is required when licensing your dog. VEHICLE/ANIMAL COLLISIONS

-The operator of any vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to or death of a dog, cat or other animal which appears to be a pet shall immediately notify the Police Department.

- Any person may claim a deer, bear or turkey that has been accidentally killed by a motor vehicle. Any person wanting to take possession and register a vehicle killed deer, bear, or turkey will need to provide their DNR customer ID number to the DNR to complete the notification and registration process.

- Per Wisconsin Statute 346.70(1), any crash within the State of Wisconsin must be reported when it results in injury of a person, $1,000 or more damage to any person’s vehicle or property or damage of $200 or more to state or other government-owned property other than a vehicle.

BUILDING PERMITS

Contact your town or village clerk to receive an application for a building permit. A building permit is required in the villages and towns of Burnett County before building. Building means any building or structure and any enlargement, alteration, heating or ventilating installation, sign, building moving, building razing or anything affecting the fire hazards or safety of any building or structure.

Village of Grantsburg

The burning of garbage and construction debris is prohibited. You can burn brush and leaves after 6 p.m., but no burning on Sundays. The property owner is responsible to ensure that the fire is completely extinguished at the end of the night. If the ground is completely covered in snow, burning can take place at any time. Always check the Fire Danger in

your area before burning.

Town of Grantsburg, Wood River and Trade Lake

From March 15 – June 1 of each year, outdoor burning is allowed only between the hours of 6 p.m. and midnight. The property owner is responsible to ensure that the fire is completely extinguished at the end of the night. If the ground is completely snow-covered burning can take place at any time. Please contact your Town Chairperson for burning permits and Town specific burning regulations. Always check the Fire Danger in your area before burning.

Village of Webster

Burning construction waste or debris at a construction site is prohibited. Burning barrels or other similar devices to burn refuse/debris is prohibited. Recreational burning pits or campfires not exceeding four feet in diameter and not located within 25 feet of any structure are permissible. Recreational burning pits or campfires shall be extinguished by midnight. Open burning shall be constantly attended and supervised by a competent person of at least 16 years of age until such fire is extinguished. Permitted open burning is allowed only after 6 p.m. and shall be extinguished by midnight. Burning is not allowed on Sundays or holidays. Always check the Fire Danger in your area before burning.

Village of Siren

Burning of brush and leaves is permitted after 6 p.m. and cannot take place on Sundays or holidays. If the ground is covered in snow, burning can take place at any time. If the DNR issues a no-burn order, the Village must follow that order.

PASSPORT INFORMATION

A passport in required when leaving and entering the United States.

Things you will need

• An unsigned passport application.

• One passport photo (this can be obtained from any photo studio or from the County Clerk's Office).

• A certified copy of your birth certificate.

• Your driver’s license or state ID with a photo for identification.

• If your current name as shown on your driver’s license is different from that on your birth certificate, documents showing how your current name came to be (i.e., marriage certificates, divorce decrees or court orders) must be submitted with your application.

• All applicants, even children under the age of 14 must now appear in person to apply. They will use the parent's driver's license for identification of anyone 17 years of age or younger. Both parents or legal guardian (s) must be present when applying for a passport for a child under the age of 14. If one parent / guardian appears you must also submit one of the following:

- Second parent's / guardian's notarized, written statement consenting to passport issuance for the child

- Primary evidence of sole authority

- A written statement, form DS-3053 (made under penalty of perjury) explaining the second parent's unavailability

• A check or money order is needed to pay for the passport application fees. Application processing fees and the cost of passport photos are paid to the Burnett County Clerk and may be paid by check, credit card (extra fee will be assessed) or cash.

ADRC provides assistance to adults (including disabled young adults 17.5 years old) and the elderly. They offer guidance and assistance to caregivers and family members of loved one, spouses, medical providers and anyone who cares about or is assisting an elderly or disabled individual. Their mission is to provide older adults and people with physical or intellectual disabilities the resources needed to live with dignity and security and achieve maximum independence and quality of life. TRANSPORTATION

ADRC Transportation Program Medical Appointments

The Aging and Disability Resource Center of Northwest Wisconsin provides non-emergency transportation to and from local and out of area medical appointments to individuals 60 years of age and older and disabled individuals of all ages, who reside in Burnett and Polk Counties. Co-payments are charged to all riders, based on a reduced-rate fee. ADRC Transportation Program does not provide emergency transportation.

To schedule a ride: Call the ADRC Transportation Reservation Line at 715-485-8592 or 877-485-2372 at least TWO BUSINESS DAYS prior to your appointment.

Other Ride Services:

The ADRC Van is used for socialization trips, shopping, errands and special events. This service is open to elderly and disabled individuals, living in the community, in Polk and Burnett Counties. Trips for special events will be scheduled for each county. For the special trips our agency reserves the right to focus on the area of the county where there is the most interest and accommodate others as we are able. Local shopping/errand trips available upon request. Call our office 5 days in advance to reserve a spot on the van for a special event or to schedule an individualized local shopping/errand trip.

Blueberry Junction Park

This playground has a large set of playground equipment for children. It also holds the north trailhead for the self-guided Jordan Buck Heritage

Hike that is 1.3 miles long.

WILDLIFE AREAS

Crex Meadows Wildlife Area

Located just North of Grantsburg

The Crex Meadows Wildlife Area just outside of Grantsburg is a whopping 30,000 acres of wildlife refuge and is home to 720 species of plants, over 96 species of butterflies and over 280 species of birds. Its topography includes marshlands, prairies, flowages and forests. Over 100,000 visitors travel to Crex Meadows every year to take in the beautiful nature that flows through Crex.

Namekagon Barrens Wildlife Area

The Namekagon Wildlife area is located in Northern Burnett and Washburn Counties, consisting of more than 6,000 acres. The jack pine-scrub oak barrens is home to one of the largest populations of sharp-tailed grouse and is rich with diverse prairie flora and fauna. It is a wonderful place for those who enjoy wild blueberry picking, wildlife photography and hiking.

Amsterdam Sloughs

The Amsterdam Sloughs is located just northwest of Siren and consists of 6,000 acres that feature a diversity of marshes, flowages, swamp land and forests. It is an excellent place for birding enthusiasts to visit- you can most likely see a great blue heron, osprey and eagles every time you visit.

Danbury Wildlife Area

The Danbury Wildlife Area is 2,000 acres and is the home to waterfowl, deer, snowshoe hare and many migratory birding species.

Fish Lake Wildlife Area

The Fish Lake Wildlife area is located just outside of Grantsburg and is 14,000 acres. This wildlife area contains vast sedge marshes.

Keizer Lake Wildlife Area

Keizer Lake Wildlife Area is located in the Town of Jackson and consists of 1,352 acres of trees, wetlands and wildlife. The wildlife mostly viewed in the area is deer, ruffed grouse, eagles and osprey. The best time to view the area is in the spring and the fall.

Governor Knowles State Forest

The Governor Knowles State Forest serves as a resource protection zone for the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. It consists of 190 acres of old red pines along the St. Croix River. The whole forest itself is 32,500 acres and includes trout streams, snowshoe hare, ruffed and sharp-tailed grouse, yellowthroats, eagles, pocket gophers and mink.

HIKING/BIKING TRAILS

Sandrock Cliffs Trail

Located in Grantsburg

The Sandrock Cliffs is a hiking trail along the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. There are two trailheads available for access to the trail with parking: Highway 70 landing and the Sandrock Cliffs off of Tennessee Road. The trail is a 5-mile system of loop trails with the southern-most trail being a 3-mile loop. Connecting trails to these loops adds an additional 2-miles to explore the sandstone cliffs. This trail is only for hiking- no bicycles or motorized vehicles are permitted.

Upper Phantom Cross-Country

Ski & Hiking Trail

East Refuge Road, Grantsburg

This trail has four loops with a total length of 3.7 miles. The loops are color-coded and there are maps located at the parking lot on East Refuge Road. This trail is quite flat, therefore a good trail for beginners. After each snowfall, the trail is groomed for skiers.

Grettum Ski Trail

Located in Grantsburg

This trail is in the shape of a figure eight and loops through rolling terrain. It does not have large steep hills, so it is less physically challenging. This trail is the best for moonlight skiing. There is a parking lot located at the trailhead.

Hay Creek Hiking Trail

The Hay Creek Hiking Trail can be accessed right from the parking lot of the Crex Meadows Visitor’s Center located just off of County Road D in Grantsburg. The trail is approximately 1.5 miles long and loops around a forested area to the Hay Creek Flowage. There is an observation platform which is located on the south shore of the flowage. This trail is for people of all hiking skill levels.

Brandt Pine Ski Trail System

Located 6 miles northwest of Grantsburg off of Gile Road. There are signs located west of Grantsburg on Highway 70 that point you in the direction of the trail. This trail runs through tall pines and down to the river basin. There are four different trails located in this trail system, each with different skills levels. For intermediate skiers, there is the Oak Hills Trail (3.5 miles), the Ravine Trail (1.2 miles) and the Ridge Line Trail (1.4 miles). For advanced skiers there is the River View Trail (1.8 miles).

Gandy Dancer Trail

The segment of the Gandy Dancer that is in Burnett County is approximately 20-miles in length and passes through Siren, Webster and Danbury. This trail is used for hiking and biking only from April 1 to Nov. 30. There are trailheads to access this trail in each of the three towns.

Big Bear Lake Nature Trail

Parking lot located on Bear Lake Road, Webb Lake

The Big Bear Lake Nature Trail is a 2-mile maintained walking trail in the Town of Webb Lake. The trail has three loops that go through Burnett County Forest land. This trail also includes educational signs at points of interest along the trail. If biking, a trail pass must be purchased before riding on the Gandy.

Forts Folle Avoine Trails

Parking is available at the trailhead just outside the gates of The Forts

The different trails are open to snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and hiking. One of the trails circles around the 80-acre park and goes through the Ojibwe Village and past the Fur Posts. The snowshoe trail begins at the trailhead and travels west to the river, following the path past the Fur Posts and Ojibwe Village. This trail will eventually be continued through the remainder of the park. There is no snowshoeing or hiking allowed on the skiing trail.

and camping with over 40 miles of maintained horse trails. The campground itself offers 40 campsites with picnic tables, fire rings and horse tie lines. The campground and trails are open year-round, but the roads are not plowed in the winter months. The five trails in the 40-mile trail system are the Barrens Loop (brown signs, 21 miles), Sunrise Shortcut (green signs, 12 miles), Wolf Creek Trail (red signs, 5 miles), Riverview Trail (black signs, 3 miles) and the Harris Loop (yellow signs, 2 miles). The Trade River Day Use Area east of the campground provides trail maps, water, restrooms, horse tie lines and trail pass self-registration. A second parking area is locating with maps along the northern portion of the trails located at 340th Street and 290th Avenue. A state trail pass is required for riders 16 and older.
