The Siren School District covers about 106 square miles located in Burnett County in northwestern Wisconsin. The district is composed of seven townships surrounded by area lakes and forest land. There is a blend of both manufacturing, tourism, and some gaming that supports the area financially. Siren is a small town with a population of approximately 1,000. Local businesses and several homes were rebuilt or renovated following a tornado in 2001. The area enjoys a rich blend of cultural diversity with the St. Croix tribal community making up a significant portion of our school community. Siren provides students with a nice combination of academics, sports, and music.

A very cool new roadside attraction is coming to life in Siren, as a collaborative effort to create a carved, wooden dragon in the village’s Crooked Lake Park got the green light last week and quickly moved into action,
after approval by the full Siren Village Board. Work began on the carving project on Monday, Nov. 8, and the project became a popular spot for people to see the sculpture come to life. The village has agreed to fund the project, with final estimates coming in around $2,000, with the Siren School District also agreeing to
commit to a portion of the overall project cost, they have agreed to assist or take part in the long-term maintenance of the wooden dragon. The carving artist, Perry Carlson, is from just over the border in Minnesota, and began work on the project this week. He is a noted chainsaw sculptor, and has done

Burnett County had some good news on several financial fronts in the last few days, including a better than expected Standard & Poor’s (S&P) bond rating, as well as a variety of bids on their subsequent bond sale for a more than $30-million public safety jail facility project, which means they will likely save up to $37,000 annually on interest costs, beyond their initial estimates. The bond rating was revealed at last week’s Burnett County Public Safety Committee meeting, where county administrator Nate Ehalt showed the results of their review and queries by S&P ended up with a ‘AA’ rating, which is very good. “Just one step down from ‘AAA,’ which is almost impossible to achieve,” Ehalt said, noting that the county will see the positive financial effects from the rating at

A very cool new roadside attraction is coming to life in Siren, as a collaborative effort to create a carved, wooden dragon in the village’s Crooked Lake Park got the green light last week and quickly moved into action,
after approval by the full Siren Village Board. Work began on the carving project on Monday, Nov. 8, and the project became a popular spot for people to see the sculpture come to life. The village has agreed to fund the project, with final estimates coming in around $2,000, with the Siren School District also agreeing to
commit to a portion of the overall project cost, they have agreed to assist or take part in the long-term maintenance of the wooden dragon. The carving artist, Perry Carlson, is from just over the border in Minnesota, and began work on the project this week. He is a noted chainsaw sculptor, and has done
