Donations help football stay in Siren JONATHAN RICHIE EDITOR@BURNETTCOUNTYSENTINEL.COM

SIREN––The Siren football was ready for the start of the season thanks to a number of donations from local businesses, Jenneman’s Hardware and Evergreen Landscaping, who donated their time to repair the Siren football field. Siren athletic director and head football coach Ryan Karsten brought the issue of the deteriorating football field surface for the upcoming 8-player football season to the school board in June. In April, while doing routine maintenance on the Siren Football field, a hole was found about three to four feet across and about two feet deep. It was filled in, but then another hole was created. Karsten then had the problem spot roped off. The Siren School board was hoping to have a second referendum pass in April that would SEE FOOTBALL, PAGE 2

A two feet deep hole was discovered on the Siren football field in the spring. The school board and coaches made sure it was ready for the first game.

There is an alleyway between Jensen Sundquist Insurance Agency and the Senior Center downtown Grantsburg. This alleyway is being used to support the growth of local artists by giving them a safe place to come and show off their artistic talents through

painting. Thorne Carter was a junior at the Grantsburg High School when in his US Government class, he had to write a letter to a government official. He wrote to Larry Ebersold and the village board wanting to find a space for the public to paint and get into art. Below is an excerpt from his letter: “A public, artist-maintained and

reusable canvas such as a brick wall could provide and master different large-scale mediums. Not only would this wall be available to younger, inexperienced artists, but would also create a space for local artists to display their art to the public. Our community would be able to create artists that would SEE MURAL, PAGE 2

New deer baiting and feeding restrictions in effect September 1 MADISON––The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was notified by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection that a captive elk on a captive elk farm in Burnett County tested positive for CWD. State law requires that the Wisconsin DNR enact a ban on

feeding and baiting of deer in counties or portions of counties within a 10-mile radius of a captive or free-roaming domestic or wild animal that tests positive for CWD or tuberculosis. As required by law, this will create a three-year baiting and feeding ban in Burnett County and two-year baiting and feeding bans for Barron,

Polk and Washburn counties beginning September 1, 2019. All four counties are already considered CWD-affected due to the 2011 wild CWD positive deer detection in Washburn. Hunters should check the DNR's baiting and feeding webpage frequently for updates, as new baiting and feeding bans may be enacted in 2019 with

new CWD detections. Note: the map on this page is updated on the day new bans go into effect. Hunters can also contact local wildlife staff to determine if baiting and feeding bans are in effect in their county. No counties statewide will be removed from the ban during the 2019 deer hunting season. For more information regard-

ing baiting and feeding regulations and CWD in Wisconsin and how to have adult deer tested during the hunting seasons, visit the DNR's website, dnr. wi.gov, and search "bait and feeding" and "CWD sampling," respectively. To report a sick deer on the landscape, search keywords "sick deer" or contact a local wildlife biologist.

Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to our nurses, physicians and care teams. amerymedicalcenter.org
