Webster gets visit from State Senator The Webster Elementary School library has over 11,000 books and a brandnew computer system which allows students to find books themselves, this is all possible thanks to a fund beginning over 170 years ago. The school was awarded
over $25,000 last week from a pair of guests who were touring Burnett County for the day – State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski and State Senator Patty Schachtner. The money comes from the Common School Fund which was established by
the Wisconsin Constitution in 1848. Godlewski serves as chair to the Board of Commissioners of Public Lands (BCPL) which oversees the Common School Fund. The fund is the sole source of financial support for 92 per-
cent of Wisconsin’s school libraries. “Without this money, this library would have a lot less books, Webster Elementary School Principal Martha Anderson said. SEE WEBSTER, PAGE 2
Authorities have released the names of two people killed in a headon collision on State Highway 87/48 in the Town of Anderson last week. The Burnett County Sheriff’s Office said the crash, reported at 5:00 p.m. May 16, occurred near Bucklund Road south of Grantsburg. Both drivers, Allan G. Hill, 73, Grantsburg, and Jody J. Quimby, 43, Grantsburg, were pronounced dead at the scene. A juvenile passenger was airlifted to Children’s Hospital with unknown injuries. The crash report states Hill’s vehicle was negotiating the curve when he failed to control his vehicle, failed to yield to right-of-way, and other contributing action. The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office and the Burnett County Medical Examiner’s Office.
