The Burnaby Board of Trade held its Annual General Meeting on June 5th as part of its Spring Economic Update and Reception. The event, which took place at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown, was sponsored by Scotiabank and featured a keynote address by their Chief Economist Warren Jestin in addition to the regular AGM functions such as the Treasurer’s Report and the swearing in of the new and returning Board Directors. “While much has changed [over the past year], the things that count have
stayed the same,” said outgoing Chair of the Board Dick Kouwenhoven. “The Burnaby Board of Trade has continued to emphasize its commitment to a triple bottom line of social, environmental, and economic results, and continues to serve our membership through the best possible supports, programs, initiatives and benefits.” Kouwenhoven continued on to note that providing greater value to members has been a key theme of the BBOT over the past year, citing examples such as its improved communication channels and new and better events, including new member orientations and political
speaker engagements. Swearing in of the Directors was performed by City Councillor Paul McDonell. New Directors this year are Soon-Jae Lee (KOTRA), Mike Kaerne (HollyNorth Production Supplies), Ryan Hoag (KPMG), and Milton Richards (Simon Fraser University). Outgoing Directors include Simon Chen (KPMG), Wilf Hurd (SFU), Peter Leitch (Mammoth Studios), and Tatsuya Nakagawa (Atomica Creative Group). Leza Muir (Pacific Blue Cross) takes over as the new Chair of the Board, while Catherine Aczel Boivie assumes the role of First Vice Chair.
