The Roaring Twenties represent widespread growth and prosperity both economically and socially. With this in mind, it is a fitting theme for this year’s Burnaby Business Excellence Awards.

On October 6, BBOT members and prominent Burnaby

figures gathered at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown for the Burnaby Business Excellence Awards Hall of Fame and Nominee’s Luncheon.

There, the finalists for each of the eight awards were announced – every one representing the best that the city’s

business community has to offer.

In each award category the finalists truly represent the spirit of economic and social growth that the event’s theme is meant to evoke.

automotive industry. It seems all too appropriate then, that this year’s Hall of Fame Inductee is the Carter Automotive Family. While the company hasn’t quite been around since the 1920s, it has been a mainstay of the Burnaby business community since 1968 when, operating out of makeshift tents, they had the foresight to see Burnaby for what it has become today—a great place to do business.

Mayor Derek Corrigan, who personally inducted the Carter Automotive Family into the Hall of Fame, noted that “an Inductee is not chosen solely on the basis of longevity but based on their reputation and their contribution to the community.”

Bill Mitchell, president of the Carter Automotive Family, remarked that on behalf of the entire company he was “humbled and honoured” by the induction. Addressing the crowd of company owners, presidents, directors and CEOs, he expressed his fondness for Burnaby, stating, “You have all made a wise choice calling the City of Burnaby home.”
