FRIEZE MASTERS will be staged for the fourth successive year in Bust of Dionysus. Roman, c.1820. Bronze Height: 71 cm. TOMASSO BROTHERS FINE ART, LEEDS AND LONDON

London’s Regent’s Park. The spacious design of the exhibition hangar lends an airy, ‘en plein air’ feel to the event which this year will house 131 galleries. A Sculpture Park will be situated in the nearby English Gardens and feature historical and modern pieces selected from participating dealers. Works at the fair will span many millennia, geographical regions and media. The ethos of the fair has always been to view art from the past through a contemporary lens. Objects from ancient civilizations will be in abundance on the stands of Rupert Wace Fine Art (London), Cahn International (Basel) and David Ghezelbash Archéologie (Paris). With the latter will be a white marble head of a Cycladic statuette from c.2,500 BC. Old master paintings and sculpture from most Northern and Southern European schools will feature strongly. Italian old masters will be found on the stands of Lampronti Gallery (London), Richard L. Feigen & Co (New York) and Moretti Fine Art (London). Spanish and French works will be with Caylus (Madrid) and Didier Aaron (Paris) respectively. There will also be a strong contingent of dealers showing Dutch and Flemish paintings, including Galerie de Jonckheere (Geneva) and Johnny van Haeften (London). A highlight will be the zoologically crowded Adam and Eve in Paradise by Roelant Savery (1576–1639), for sale with Salomon Lilian (Amsterdam).

Noli me tangere. Fontana Workshop. c.1560. Maiolica. Diameter: 43 cm. BAZAART LTD, LONDON

A panoply of 19th-century, modern and post-War works will be represented by galleries too numerous to mention here. Under a single roof will be works by Paul Gauguin (1848–1903), Pablo Picasso (1881–1973), Lucio Fontana (1899–1968) and Bridget Riley (b.1931). Other fields represented at Frieze Masters will be Asian art, ethnographic art, illuminated manuscripts, Medieval art and photography.

AICA 48th International Congress Symposium 26, 27 October Matthew Bown: The Secret of the Ideological Age Monday 26 October 2015 18.30–20.30, Kenneth Clark Lecture Theatre,The Courtauld Institute of Art, Somerset House, Strand, WC2R 0RN This event will be followed by a reception in the Foyer.

The lecture will open the debate for the 2015 AICA Symposium,Who Cares? Cultural Intelligence: Value,Veneration and Criticality. What are the ethical tensions for the contemporary artist and critic when art becomes a global currency at a time of extreme inequality and instability? The theme for the symposium was developed from an article by Matthew Bown ‘Traces of the Holy‘ (Times Literary Supplement, 10 April 2015) which argued for the idea of the contemporary artwork as crypto relic. The symposium is at the Royal College of Art Tuesday 27 October in partnership with Culture+Conflict, Royal College of Art. Speakers include Professor Julian Stallabrass, Dr Anthony Downey, Joshua Simon, Marie-José Mondzain, Nicholas Bourriaud, David Cross, Rene Gimpel, JJ Charlesworth, Ben Lewis.
