P U T R A

I am passionate about creating an architectural design that improves societies’ / users lifestyle and economic developments, especially for the underprivileged. This has allowed me to explore different construction methods through a variety of cultural practices. Hence developing a meticulous eye for designing in complex site conditions and constraints.

The Paralimni Marina will be developed in its own character, with focus on the new 300 berth marina basin set against the backdrop of the open sea views beyond. Carefully considered architectural landscape street scene design, will deliver an appealing and intimate waterfront environment. The main feature of the waterfront zone will be a mixed-use development, incorporating a blend of speciality shops, marine sector retail, bars and restaurants. N

Gibraltar Hotel

Gibraltar Hotel, (stage 4)

Role as a Part 1: Conversion of & extension to an existing Drafting & Editing office building in Gibraltar to a modern Hotel Boutique Hotel. The existing building will be stripped back to the concrete frame & extended upwards by four storeys before being re-clad. The hotel will have 120 bedrooms, plus restaurant, bar and ancillary space. On the roof of the hotel, a garden will be created with a bar, water feature & toilet block. The project commences on site in October 2018

6

My task was to shadow an architect and draft technical detail sketches into CAD. I was also responsible for altering construction drawings from changes or requested by engineers. Furthermore, I was also responsible for drawing window and door schedules for this project.

Technical drawings and Window + Door schedules Technical details: My task was to translate technical sketches into CAD for a consultant. Schedules: This task required me to specify all doors and windows needed in the project. Here, i learnt the drawing requirements for for Tender and observed the relationship between Architects, consultants and the project director.

Egipto community are deprived because of their violent history. Despite the existing opportunities, the locals are struggling to find decent jobs. Many are uneducated, preventing them to have a better future. However, the locals are home for many talents such as hip hop, carpentry, and construction, which most make their money within the centre and plazas where tourists are common. The site is perceived as dangerous due to their intimidating sense of space, such as narrow alleyways and dense spaces. Nevertheless, the site has the potential of being the prime tourist attraction due to their vibrant, colourful neighbourhood. which comprises meaningful murals.

Plaza for Multicultural opportunities | Brick Lane This project explores how London’s metropolitan areas emerge and transform over time, becoming quarters for independent businesses, financial heartlands, and meccas of art and creativity. This project is centred around Brick Lane, known for its vibrant urban spaces and diverse demography, that has been shaped by societal displacements over time. It has developed into a mecca for a new generation of ‘hipsters’, intertwining with diverse local communities, creating an equally diverse demand for space.

Spatial Ambition

Ground Floor

The Public theatre space is designed to provide opportunities for different societies and Users. The main attraction is the performer, located at the stage like space in the centre of the stairway towards the main entrance. It brings people to gather around, which is beneficial to the market vendors situated on the ground floor and retail shops underneath. Here people can eat, shop and watch a performance in one space.

Strategy

The counter space is designed as a spatial divider for opportunities. These can be used as meeting, performer, teaching, gallery space, and more; It is arranged to have a central area where performers or events can attract a gathering. Here, The main attraction is the performer, and the market space benefits from the mass of people.

The Tearing Landscape

Design strategy

Left: Design Strategy: Creating Tension

The initial strategy was to create tension between users. By manipulating the ground condition, it creates opportunities to divide programmes.

Design Approach

1. Identifying territories

The landscape is manipulated through the ‘tearing concept. This creates an incline, decline and hollow space that makes opportunities for spaces and programmes. In addition, the tearing of the landscape provides more surface space for programmes as the Bricklane landscape will bleed onto the roofs. Furthermore, these spaces can also create tensions upon the several users and site constraints.

2. Dividing with circulation

3. Creating enclosures with Ripping concept

Typological strategy

Circulation + Constraints The site is connected to buildings of different uses. The above model experiment will be the primary strategy to the design. The coloured lines represents the territory that is connected to the existing buildings, the pencil lines are tension to seperate building fronts and main program. 18

PERSONAL & CONFIDENTIAL Ref: REFERENCE FOR BURHANUDDIN PUTRA I confirm that Burhan Putra was my YR2 and YR3 student at the School of Architecture at University of Brighton in 2016-18, whilst teaching in the capacity of a Senior Lecturer.

Ǧ ǡ

Burhan is a creative character with a keen interest in spatial investigations through making. His portfolio is an exuberant collection of a highly sophisticated and original body of work.

Ǧ

Ǧ ͳʹͲ

He is analytical and methodical in his approach to architecture and extremely self-critical towards his own work which is rare amongst his peer. During the second year of this academic education I have experienced and enjoyed an impressive development of his “eye” that combined intricate physical models and beautiful digital drawings.

Ǧ

Ǧ

Ǧ ͳʹ

Ǧ Ǧ

Burhan’s YR3 investigations are based on an interest in architectures that negotiate Edgeland conditions. He reconfigures the idea of drawing, plan, section, surface and sightline. Those of us who know him knew of his verve and feared it might get out of control…but no! He produced several comprehensive manuals and models that may be used to replicate such spatial configurations.

Ǧ Ǧ ʹͲ

Burhanuddin’s tasks on the above projects included general arrangement drawings, internal ǡ ͵ ǡ ǡ

research

Burhan’s representation method combines the crafting of delicately made physical models and beautiful threedimensional drawings. His final YR3 proposition is based on the Edge of Isle of Dogs, London and received a first. His main question focused on how architecture may become an incubator for new spatial reinterpretations and how architecture may open-up new spatial experiences. Burhan is a very ambitious and multi-talented designer but remains unpretentious. His inexhaustible energy and professionalism will stand him in good stead for any postgraduate course in Architecture. I enthusiastically recommend Burhan for any MArch Architecture Course, where I’m sure he will excel. Sincerely,
