‘Landfill’ Of the Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, UK
Y5: Academic project
12
This project explores how London’s metropolitan areas emerge and transform over time, becoming quarters for independent businesses, financial heartlands, and meccas of art and creativity. This project is centred around Brick Lane, known for its vibrant urban spaces and diverse demography, that has been shaped by societal displacements over time. It has developed into a mecca for a new generation of ‘hipsters’, intertwining with diverse local communities, creating an equally diverse demand for space.

1. Demolition of the Abandoned school
The existing building is in poor condition, and it will create difficulties to renovate due to the compact density of the area and the material quality.
1. Concept: Circulation, entrances & Constraints
The building has 5 access, each from different floor heightS to suit the existing ground levels. By initially planning the circulation and access, it generates the building volume.

The Paralimni Marina will be developed in its own character, with focus on the new 300 berth marina basin set against the backdrop of the open sea views beyond. Carefully considered architectural landscape street scene design, will deliver an appealing and intimate waterfront environment. The main feature of the waterfront zone will be a mixed-use development, incorporating a blend of speciality shops, marine sector retail, bars and restaurants.

My task was to shadow an architect and draft technical detail sketches into CAD. I was also responsible for altering construction drawings from changes or requested by engineers. Furthermore, I was also responsible for drawing window and door schedules for this project.
Technical drawings and Window + Door schedules Technical details: My task was to translate technical sketches into CAD for a consultant. Schedules: This task required me to specify all doors and windows needed in the project. Here, i learnt the drawing requirements for for Tender and observed the relationship between Architects, consultants and the project director.

Ref: REFERENCE FOR BURHANUDDIN PUTRA I confirm that Burhan Putra was my YR2 and YR3 student at the School of Architecture at University of Brighton in 2016-18, whilst teaching in the capacity of a Senior Lecturer. Burhan is a creative character with a keen interest in spatial investigations through making. His portfolio is an exuberant collection of a highly sophisticated and original body of work.
Ǧ
Ǧ ͳʹͲ
He is analytical and methodical in his approach to architecture and extremely self-critical towards his own work which is rare amongst his peer. During the second year of this academic education I have experienced and enjoyed an impressive development of his “eye” that combined intricate physical models and beautiful digital drawings.

Burhan’s YR3 investigations are based on an interest in architectures that negotiate Edgeland conditions. He reconfigures the idea of drawing, plan, section, surface and sightline. Those of us who know him knew of his verve and feared it might get out of control…but no! He produced several comprehensive manuals and models that may be used to replicate such spatial configurations.

research
Burhan’s representation method combines the crafting of delicately made physical models and beautiful threedimensional drawings. His final YR3 proposition is based on the Edge of Isle of Dogs, London and received a first. His main question focused on how architecture may become an incubator for new spatial reinterpretations and how architecture may open-up new spatial experiences. Burhan is a very ambitious and multi-talented designer but remains unpretentious. His inexhaustible energy and professionalism will stand him in good stead for any postgraduate course in Architecture. I enthusiastically recommend Burhan for any MArch Architecture Course, where I’m sure he will excel. Sincerely,
