Occupying a block halfway between Heights Mercantile and the soon-to-be-completed Heights Central Station, 841 Yale is also within walking distance from the newly announced M-K-T development at the northeast intersection of North Shepherd and 6th Street as well as the

Heights Hike and Bike Trail. Allegro emphasizes a pedestrian-friendly design for their new project with a street-front orientation across the 13,199 square-foot lot and secure parking at the rear, accessed off 9th Street. “The façade [of 841 Yale] mirrors the evolution of the

Heights and our own aesthetic since we began investing in this area 20 years ago,” said Natacha Leonards-La Francesca of Allegro Builders. “We’ve always looked to the history and workmanship of the neighborhood for inspiration when building here, and in the past decade, as

Business Briefs. By Betsy Denson betsy@theleadernews.com Last week, The Leader profiled Oak Forest’s Lauri Stufflebeme, who signed a lease for the final 1,250 square-foot space in the Ella Oaks Phase I center to open skoah, a facials only concept with a proprietary skin and hair care product line. The business will be between Brush & Bobby and Local Poke. Stufflebeme said she hopes to be open by April 2019. Customers can get on the list for a free facial once skoah opens. Those who sign up will also be kept informed of pre-openings specials and other announcements. Visit www.skoah.com/ Houston and follow them on Facebook and Instagram @ Skoah Oakforest. Black Dog Records to fill vacated Gipsy Girls Swamplot had the scoop on Black Dog Records, which has filed a permit for a new space at 726 W. 19th St., where kids’ karaoke and tween party shop Gipsy Girls used to reside. Reports are that Black Dog plans to redo the 1,700 square feet of space inside and fill it with the vinyl from its former location at 4900 Bissonnet St. Black Dog joins Painting With a Twist, Gold Rush Collective Tattoo Parlour, Replay Games old school video game shop, and InStep Pilates. New restaurant to open on West 19th After a fire took out South-

ern Goods at 632 W 19th St. and a crowdfunding effort to repair damages fell short, chef Lyle Bento said he would not reopen the eatery. But another restaurant will open in its place. Anvil owner Bobby Heugel told Culturemap that he’s teaming up with James Beard Awardwinning chef Justin Yu to open a restaurant there. The two already own Better Luck Tomorrow in the Heights. “They signed a lease last month and we are excited it’s in the hands of great operators,” Revive’s Monica Danna said.

In mid-November, Allegro Builders broke ground on the company’s first commercial development in the area since 2008. Allegro plans to deliver the nearly 8,400-square-foot, three-story mixed-use project in the third quarter of 2019. Previous projects in the Heights for Allegro include 1001 Studewood – now home to Maison Pucha bistro with Allegro’s headquarters above it. Their first commercial endeavor in the area was the nearby 933 Studewood, formerly home to Glass Wall restaurant and now the BCK restaurant. The builders also are responsible for dozens of custom homes and remodels in the Heights. Leasing of the space at 841 Yale St., intended for both restaurant and office users, is being managed by Chris Williams of Heritage Texas Properties’ recently formed commercial division. “Community is key to the Heights, and as a company that also shares a longstanding base of operations here, we’re excited to market a property that speaks to the past and future of this unique urban enclave with a scale, finish and functionality that we feel will resonate with discerning residents as well as the distinctive businesses looking to have a presence here,” Williams said in a news release.
