Noted Design opens in the Heights By Zarah Parker zarah@theleadernews.com Noted Design Co., the stationery store that was reported on in July by one of The Leader’s Media Camp students, has officially opened in the Heights. Created by Allison Mattingly and Angie Coussirat, Noted was spurred by the duos passion for paper. As self-proclaimed, “paper people,” they wanted to bring paper back into everyone’s life. “I noticed as people are leading a more digital life, there’s been this return of quality paper products, and people wanting a physical planner or to send a nice card,” said Mattingly. From there, Mattingly thought about how nice it would be to have a local place to get quality paper products. She then brought in Coussirat who has a background in graphic design. “At the same time, we were both bullet journaling and so we connected on that, and thought how great would it be to have a spot you could have all the supplies you need for bullet journaling, and then we could do greeting cards and stationery,” said Coussirat. If it has to do with paper, that’s what they were focused on when filling the store with goodies. From Journals, notebooks, pens, and cards, to gift wrap and pencil bags, the space is dedicated to the appreciation of paper. Noted will soon offer workshops regularly. The first one coming in November will be an introduction to bullet journaling. “It’s basically introducing the process to people who are interested in learn-

ing how to take just a blank notebook and create your own planner out of it with this structured system,” said Mattingly. Bullet journaling allows you to truly create something unique that fits your needs and style. And though some people can be intimidated by a blank place, the workshop will show how to use different layouts and techniques. Even if bad handwriting is a worry, they have stickers and rulers to keep everything in line. “I could just go and get a spiral notebook from Walmart, or wherever for a dollar, but if you have something that’s beautiful and a really nice pen, it kind of makes you feel fancy in a way without being expensive,” said Mattingly.

Eventually at Noted they want to host thank you letter writing happy hours, where people can come in and get a card or bring one in and they will mail it out for them. They will also host modern calligraphy classes. Coussirat offers custom designs on paper products, like personalized stationery and note cards for customers. “A lot of [the graphic design] is going to be based on what the community needs,” said Coussirat. As locals, the Noted duo wanted to bring paper goods to the community, so they wouldn’t have to look all over Houston to find great products. “We’re listening to the neighborhood and the consumer, so as they come in they’re like, ‘oh I really wish you had this’,” said Mattingly, “So, if we don’t have something that people are interested in, just let us know. Oct. 9 was Noted’s official open date, but they’ll be throwing a grand opening party, complete with giveaways, on Nov. 3. Find them at 1901 Lawrence St.
