Another upcoming fun event is the Haunted Adventure which takes place at the Starlight Bowl in Burbank, sponsored by the City’s Department of Parks & Recreation. The dates are October 13, 14, 20 and 21. Volunteers are needed as set designers, make-up artists, actors/scarers, prop makers, wardrobe assistants, tech crew, non-scare helpers and general support. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old and must submit an application and waiver. Volunteers under 18 years old require a parent/guardian signature. Signing in is required for service hours. Once again, we thank you for your continued support.

Our DIG program continues to offer a great opportunity for volunteers who enjoy outdoor work, including students striving to accumulate hours for their school requirements. Our staff and volunteers meet at various Burbank parks to help beautify the grounds in activities such as litter clean-up, weeding, raking, and occasionally, planting. This program received it’s start in July 2017, when the City discontinued the use of herbicides in its public parks. As a result, DIG Burbank was created to help maintain the beauty of our local parks using our own manual skills and without the use of dangerous herbicides. DIG also offers private events to groups or businesses wishing to target a specific area in Burbank.

What’s Inside

We are closing in on the end of the Summer and looking forward to the beautiful Fall season. Our volunteers continue to grow in number. We are so grateful for the many hours our volunteers offer as they give back to the community. The bar graph on the right shows the top 5 valuations of volunteer hours by State. Just another reminder of how valuable BVP volunteers are nationally! On September 28th, we hosted our big Fall event: Rock-A-Hula! This was an incredible event for our senior population, held at the McCambridge Pool, featuring free swimming, dancing, music, food, games, raffles and, of course…HULA! Volunteers of varying ages were in attendance to help make this event run smoothly.
