The DeBell Golf Club is an 18-hole facility which features 5,608 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 71. The course rating is 68.9 and it has a slope rating of 122 on Kikuyu grass. Designed by William F. Bell, William H. Johnson and Richard Bigler; the DeBell Golf Club opened in 1959 as a bright, new addition to LA Golf. DeBell Golf Club also offers four clubs to be a part of: The Burbank Men’s Golf Club, The Burbank Senior Men’s Club, The Burbank Women’s Club and The Lady Duffers. For more information on these clubs please contact the Pro Shop for more details.

This club offers a regulation 18-hole course and a Par-3 course. The regulation course is very tight and hilly making it challenging for the more seasoned golfer yet still enjoyable for the beginners. Reservations to play DeBell can be made up to seven days in advance by calling 818.845.0022.

Ever wonder if your kids would be interested in the game of golf? Well, this is a fun and affordable way to find out. You will receive a series of 4 one-hour lessons taught by PGA or LPGA Professionals. These lessons are taught in a maximum of ten juniors per group. For one low price your youngster will experience all the different aspects of the game.

Whether you are a beginner at golf or returning to the game, the Get Golf Ready Program is designed to teach you in five short lessons. These classes will teach you everything you’ll need to know to step onto a golf course and get out to play with confidence. Recreational competition is provided for both boys and girls. Teams are coached by volunteers who share their time and talent with the participants.

Youth Team Registration Youth sports league registration is accepted on a “team basis.” Individual players’ names will be added to a Free Agent List.

Players’ names are distributed to existing teams expressing an interest in adding new players or to new teams that are forming.

For those players not contacted and placed on a team, their parents are required to attend a parent’s meeting. The purpose of these meetings is to recruit new coaches. Staff will make every attempt to recruit coaches for these players, however there is no guarantee of placement on a team. Individual players interested in playing these sports should contact the Sports Office.

Volunteer Coaches Needed You can make a difference in the lives of children.

All teams are coached by volunteers looking to make a difference in the lives of children. Volunteers do not have to have a child enrolled in the program. Training and certification is provided.

Scorekeeper Training Earn $10 and up per game!

The Youth Scorekeeper program is available to youth in 7th grade and above.

Scorekeepers are needed for youth baseball (February), softball (February), and basketball (September/October).

Youth Officials Training Earn $14 - $15 per game!

The Youth Officials Program is available to youth in 8th grade and above. Youth Officials are used to officiate youth baseball (February), softball (February), and basketball (September/October).

Registration is accepted on a “team basis” only. Individuals may put themselves on a player referral list but there is no guarantee of team placement. Divisional classifications range from top-flight play to low-level recreational leagues in a variety of sports.

The adult program offers play in basketball, roller hockey, slow-pitch and fast-pitch softball, and volleyball.

Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation The City of Burbank is a member of the Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation (SCMAF). The mission of SCMAF is to provide and promote sports training and competition in response to and conducted by its members. The City of Burbank provides opportunities to develop physical fitness and lifelong skills in a variety of team sports for persons of all ages and abilities.

Our philosophy is to instill a positive attitude, good sportsmanship, sound fundamentals, confidence, and high moral standards. The City of Burbank and SCMAF seek to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship and participation.

Registration All teams may register on-line (www.burbankparks.com) beginning the first day of registration or in person during normal business hours at the Sports Office.

All teams may register during the two week registration period. At the time of registration, you will be asked if you are a *resident or non-resident team. Teams registering as resident will be assessed with the resident fee. Teams registering non-resident will be assessed an additional $25 fees. *Resident teams are required to provide residency verification.

Any team which fails to submit the completed Roster and Assumption of Risk paperwork (and residency verification) by the stated paperwork deadline will be removed from the league and all league fees less $50 will be returned.

Burbank Athletic Federation Since 1947, the Burbank Athletic Federation (BAF) has assisted the Department with fostering, promoting, and developing amateur athletics in the City of Burbank. The goals of the BAF include building good sportsmanship and character, citizen training, and physical maintenance for all participants as well as encouraging friendly rivalry, group spirit and team play.

Burbank Athletics Walk of Fame The City of Burbank recognizes the value of sports and athletic activities within the community. These standards are achieved through the commitment and dedication of individuals who in their roles as participants, volunteers, or professional staff, have furthered the excellence of organized sports programs sponsored by the City of Burbank.

To acknowledge the contributions of those individuals who have established and achieved these high standards, the City of Burbank Parks and Recreation Department and the Burbank Athletic Federation have collaboratively established the Burbank Athletics Walk of Fame.

The Walk of Fame 2017 Ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 7, at George Izay Park, behind Field 2.

Group Class Instruction Group class instruction is offered to adult and youth, three years and older. Levels of instruction range from 1.0 to 4.5 as described on the following page. Players must wear white soled tennis shoes and provide their own racquet. Balls will be provided.

February 3-23, 2017 As a self-proclaimed guerrilla sociologist, Kathi Flood offers colorful narratives about life in Los Angeles. Her assemblages, wall works, and installations tell stories of bloated consumerist values, driving habits, political issues, and the struggle to remain expressive in this age of electronic screens. She uses etchings, drawings, fibers, text, and gutter walk findings on antique supports to tell humorous, sentimental, bombastic stories that catalogue our responses to urban life. The Stough Canyon Nature Center, nestled in the Verdugo Mountains, has an exhibit hall with educational and interpretive displays, small library, classroom and outdoor amphitheatre. Hiking trails start out from the Center. Free maps and information on trails and local habitats are provided.

HIKES & ACTIVITIES Activities are 1 to 1½ hours. Hike length and difficulty will vary. Hikers should bring water and wear appropriate clothes and shoes. All class registration will only be accepted through the second class meeting and all original class fees will apply.

Non-Resident fees apply to those living outside of the City of Burbank. Non-Residents must include an additional $5 per person, per class.

Enrollment is subject to availability. Programs are filled on a first come, first served basis.

All programs are subject to cancellation if minimum enrollment numbers are not met.

Class schedules are correct up to the date of publication, however may be subject to change without notice.

Refund / Transfer Policy The City of Burbank strives to provide quality recreation classes and programs. If you are unable to attend or are not satisfied with a class, we will be happy to arrange a transfer to another class (if space is available) or process a refund if the following guidelines are met: • A $10 processing fee will be deducted from all participant initiated refund requests.

• Class lasting 3 or more weeks - A request for refund/ transfer must be given to registration staff a minimum of one business day prior to the second class meeting.

No refund/transfer will be issued after the second class meeting.

• Class or workshop lasting 2 or fewer weeks - A request for refund/transfer must be given to registration staff a minimum of five business days prior to the scheduled start date of the class or workshop. No refund/transfer will be issued after this date.

• Material/Supply fees are non-refundable.

• Refunds issued by check will take between 3-6 weeks to receive in the mail.

Ballet Barre Youth and Adult Ballet Barre is practiced daily by classically trained dancers.

The wide age range of this class allows parents to exercise with their children. This is an open level class that starts at the introductory level and progresses in difficulty through the session. Experienced dancers can take this class to supplement their existing classes.

Classical ballet improves concentration, flexibility, musicality, and endurance. It is used as a foundation for other dance forms. Ballet

Classical ballet improves concentration, flexibility, endurance and is used as a foundation for other dance forms. The City of Burbank Forestry Division offers free mulch to Burbank residents at three locations throughout the City. Home delivery is available for large quantity loads.

The amount of wood to leaves in the mulch will vary.

THE BENEFITS OF MULCH • Mulching is essential to the survival of your landscape during a drought. Mulch will reduce the amount of water that evaporates from your soil, greatly reducing your need to water your plants.

• Mulch improves the quality of your soil by breaking up clay and allowing better water and air movement through the soil. Mulch provides nutrients to sandy soil and improves its ability to hold water.

• Mulch acts as an insulating layer on top of soil, keeping it cooler in the summer. Roots like that!

• Mulch keeps weeds down, and the weeds that grow are much easier to pull.

Offers support for women dealing with changes such as issues with children, aging parents, marital problems, physical changes (weight, menopause, etc.) and more.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE Tuesdays, 12:00 noon Topics will include transitions, loss and grief, coping skills, loneliness, and psycho education. We will use not only talk therapy, but art, music, movement, dance, and games to create an engaging and therapeutic experience that is tailored to the needs of each participant.

Adults 55+

If you are over the age of 60, join the Burbank Nutrition Services (BNS) for lunch! BNS is a City of Burbank lunch program that serves 3-course sit-down lunches at three convenient locations. BNS lunches are nutritious. delicious, and the perfect opportunity to meet new and long-time friends.

Meals are served Monday through Friday (except holidays) at 11:15am. Reservations are recommended. Reservations are taken in person between 9:00 and 11:00am the day of lunch at the location you plan to eat at.

Home Delivery Burbank Nutrition Services also offers a home delivery lunch service for homebound adults 60+, living in the City of Burbank.

Meals are delivered between 10:30am and 1:00pm with a suggested donation of $3/meal. For application, eligibility requirements or more information, call 818.238.5366.

3rd Saturday of the month 10:30am

Burbank Bus Senior & Disabled Transit provides transportation service to residents age 60 or over or disabled (with doctor’s certification). This service offers efficient, comfortable, and reliable transportation within the City of Burbank, seven (7) days a week. Reservations are required. Call for more information.

Hikers will learn about the local wildlife and the many flora and fauna while being outdoors and exercising. Bring water and wear appropriate clothes and shoes.

2017 Burbank Tournament of Roses Entry The Burbank Tournament of Roses Association (BTORA) is proud to announce that “Home Tweet Home” is the title of their float entry for the 2017 Rose Parade. This fits well with the parade theme of “Echoes of Success”. Burbank has been a participant in the annual Rose Parade since 1915. This year’s 2017 float will mark Burbank’s 85th entry and 70th consecutive float in the Rose Parade!

The Burbank Tournament of Roses Association offers a unique opportunity for involvement by a broad and diverse segment of Burbank and its surrounding communities. These volunteers include students earning community service credits, scout groups, families and other interested citizens, many of whom have consistently volunteered their time, home-grown flowers, and creative talents throughout the years. These good neighbor efforts culminate when Burbank’s float is seen by millions, worldwide, on television on New Year’s Day. It is a rewarding experience for all volunteers who generously devote their time, love and energy for the Burbank Tournament of Roses float.
