Learn-to-Swim Classes
SWIM LEVELS
If you are unsure what class level to enroll your child in, you may schedule to have your child evaluated by certified Lifeguard Instructors.
Please note that individuals may have to wait for a Lifeguard Instructor to become available during these times and wait times may be expected. Swim Evaluations are available only at the Verdugo Aquatic Facility. To schedule a time, please go to burbankparks.com.
Swim Evaluations starting May 1st
Monday – Friday 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm Saturday 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
NOTE: It is strongly recommended to register for classes that the participant qualifies for. Availability for transfers is based on space and priority. Specific times and locations for transfers are not guaranteed. Classes not meeting the minimum enrollment requirement will be cancelled. Classes cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances will be made up and the date will be announced in class.
GROUP SWIM LESSONS
Our friendly and experienced instructors provide group swim lessons for ages 3–13 years old, from the beginner to the advanced swimmer. Classes are divided by age group. Preschool levels 1–3 are for children aged 3–6 years old. Youth Levels 1–5 are for children aged 7–13 years old. Please enroll in classes based on the appropriate swim level description and prerequisites. If your child does not meet the minimum requirements of the class every effort will be made to transfer them to the appropriate level. If there are no transfer options available, a refund will be processed and your child will be dropped from the class. All applicable refund fees will apply.
After the class meets maximum enrollment, additional participants will be placed on a waiting list and will be notified if/when a space becomes available. Participants transferring from the waitlist will be charged a prorated fee based on the amount of remaining classes in the session.
PRIVATE & SEMI-PRIVATE
SWIM LESSONS
Private and Semi-Private lessons are geared for those that require one-to-one interaction with an instructor, or those who are looking to work on specific skills outside of a group setting. The objective of this class is to help participants feel comfortable in the water, enjoy the water safely and work towards swimming mastery. Instructors will cater the class material to each individual. Progress is based on individual needs and abilities.
Due to physical distancing requirements, with the safety of our participants and instructors in mind, one parent will be required to be in the water for each lesson, unless determined unnecessary by the instructor. Instructors will be present on deck instructing participants and parents in skills, while parents will be working one-on-one with their child. Private Lessons taught in the Activity Pool are not recommended for advanced swimmers or older/taller participants.
Please note that class space is limited. Class times are subject to change. Please note that flotation devices (lifejackets, water wings, etc.) are not permitted.
We offer small class ratios to improve learning, safety, and progression!

Learn how to swim or perfect your swimming skills. From beginner to advanced, we have a class that will fit you. Parent & Child | Level A
The Parent & Child Level A class is designed to get young children introduced to an aquatic environment by emphasizing a fun experience in the water. In addition to introductory skills to improve comfort in the water and swimming readiness, safety skills and cues will also be covered. Parent & Child | Level B
With adult supervision and aid, this class will teach children introductory swim and water safety skills similar to our Level 1 course. For children who have had limited exposure to aquatic environments, this class will work on improving skills and comfort in the water. The class is also designed for children who are not quite tall enough for Level 1 but have the ability to learn the same skills. The goal of the class is for the child to learn basic independent swim skills, such as floating, gliding, and combined arm and leg movement with forward progression with support. This class requires one-on-one adult supervision at all times. Swim diapers must be worn by children who are not toilet trained. Instructor: Aquatic Staff

Level 4 | SEA LIONS
The goal of Level 4 is Stroke Improvement. In Level 4, participants will prove the technical aspects of their strokes for increased efficiency when swimming. Instructors will focus on increasing endurance and introducing new strokes that include butterfly, breaststroke and sidestroke. *No class July 5, 2021
Prerequisite: Completion of Level 3 OR the ability to swim front crawl with rotary breathing for 15 yards + elementary backstroke for 15 yards. Objective: Beginning Stroke Development Level 5 | CROCODILES
The goal of Level 5 is Stroke Refinement. In Level 5, participants will continue to refine their stroke mechanics and begin to swim longer distances in preparation for transition to the Youth Swim Team or Water Polo teams. New skills include shallow angle dives and front/back flip turns. *No class July 5, 2021
Prerequisite: Completion of Level 4 OR the ability to swim front crawl w/ rotary breathing for 25 yards + elementary backstroke 25 yards + breaststroke 15 yards + back crawl 15 yards.

Semi-Private swim lessons are geared for those that require more interaction with an instructor, or those who are looking to work on specific skills in a smaller group setting. Due to physical distancing requirements, and with the safety of our participants and instructors in mind, one parent will be required to be in the water for each lesson, unless determined unnecessary by the instructor.
