CLASS REGISTRATION INFORMATION GENERAL INFORMATION Aug 4 @ 9AM

• All class registrations will only be accepted before the start of the second class meeting and all original class fees will apply.

• Non-Resident fees apply to those living outside of the City of Burbank. Non-Residents must include an additional $10 per person, per class.

• Enrollment is subject to availability. Programs are filled on a first come, first served basis.

• All programs are subject to cancellation if minimum enrollment numbers are not met.

• Class schedules may be subject to change without notice. For the most up-to-date information, please visit www.burbankparks.com.

• Guests of Enrolled Participants: Permitting classroom visits are at the discretion of the Instructor who has the responsibility to protect the learning environment and develop rules and procedures to maintain a safe classroom setting. Classroom visits are arranged directly with the Instructor under any rules that the Instructor may establish.

• Participants are not permitted to make up classes they have missed.

They must attend the specific class session for which they are registered; make-ups at alternative times are not allowed.

Refund / Transfer Policy The City of Burbank strives to provide quality recreation classes and programs. If you are unable to attend or are not satisfied with a class, we will be happy to arrange a transfer to another class of equal value (if space is available and is prior to the second class) or process a refund if the following guidelines are met: • A $10 processing fee will be deducted from all participant initiated refund requests.

• Class lasting 3 or more weeks – A request for refund/transfer must be given to Olive Recreation staff a minimum of one business day prior to the second class meeting. No refund/transfer will be issued after the second class meeting.

• Class or workshop lasting 2 or fewer weeks – A request for refund/ transfer must be given to Olive Recreation staff a minimum of five business days prior to the scheduled start date of the class or workshop. No refund/transfer will be issued after this date.

• Material/Supply fees are non-refundable.

Refunds issued by check will take between 3-6 weeks to receive in the mail.

The City of Burbank Parks and Recreation Department invites the community to enjoy a season full of fun programs, festive events, and opportunities to connect with family, friends, and neighbors.

Haunted Adventure

Get ready for a Fall full of Halloween fun! The festivities kick off at the McCambridge Recreation Center, hosting the Little Pumpkin Tot Party for toddlers and the main Halloween night Carnival with family games, candy, and entertainment. Meanwhile, the action shifts to the Valley Skate Park for the Halloween Skate Fest, inviting skaters to hit the ramps in costume for themed contests.

Haunted Adventure returns to the Starlight Bowl this Fall with a brand-new maze experience featuring a creepy theme, immersive scenes, and spooky surprises around every corner. Costumes and props donated

by Independent Studio Services (ISS) Prop House help bring the fright to life, along with volunteer scare actors.

Adults 55+ Day Trips

Youth Leadership Program (YLP)

Adult 55+ Day Trips give older adults the opportunity to explore new places, enjoy memorable experiences, and spend time with friends. Destinations include casinos, museums, seasonal festivals, shopping, and more.

YLP gives Burbank high school students the opportunity to earn volunteer hours, build leadership skills, and explore careers in local government and community service. Applications for the 2026/2027 session open in August 2026.

Residents Inspiring Service & Empowerment (RISE)

Burbank Autumn Arts Festival

RISE is a free eight-week program that helps Burbank residents get more involved in their community.

Participants connect with City officials, local organizations, and fellow residents while learning about local resources and community leadership.

Celebrate creativity and community at the Fall Art Festival on September 19. Hosted by the Burbank Cultural Arts Commission and Valley Cultural Foundation, this event features local artists, live music, and interactive activities.

The City of Burbank Home Delivered Meal (HDM) Program provides eligible 60+ resident adults with nutritional assistance by delivering a well-balanced meal and an opportunity to monitor wellbeing of the homebound elderly during the week.

• Eligibility for receiving a home delivered meal is based on a screening assessment of the participant by telephone or a home visit. Verification of the need for this service is determined through a home assessment within one week of the beginning of the meal service.

• Voluntary suggested donation is $3.00

OTHER SERVICES PROVIDED • Quarterly newsletters created by dietitians to increase nutritional knowledge and promote balanced diet and exercise.

• Nutritional risk assessments.

• Referrals for nutrition counseling.

• Counseling Nutritional Services provides free of charge nutritional consulting by LA County Registered Dietitians to high-risk eligible clients.

Roger Dolin and Emily Goff are proud to present their first joint exhibition, celebrating a shared passion for the outdoors and the inspiring mountain landscapes surrounding Los Angeles.

Celebrating its fifteenth anniversary, the California Japanese Ceramic Arts Guild was founded in 1976

by Joanne and Yukio Onaga to bring together Southern California artists rooted in Japanese ceramic traditions. For five decades, members have hosted an annual show at the Nisei Week Festival in Los Angeles’ Little Tokyo.

Los Angeles fine art photographer Eric M. Renard is one of California’s leading contemporary artists. He first discovered his passion at Tufts University under Siegfried Halus, then worked in architectural photography in San Francisco before moving to LA to become an advertising Creative Director.

Though both artists work in acrylic, their approaches are uniquely their own: Roger transforms photographs into meticulously painted grid-based compositions, while Emily incorporates natural ephemera and collage elements into imaginative, textured interpretations of the natural world.

Together, their work offers two distinct yet complementary perspectives on landscape, memory, and artistic process.

The exhibition "Conveying in Clay" highlights the distinct styles of the Guild’s ten current artists. Ranging from functional tableware to sculptural stories of the Japanese diaspora, their work beautifully connects heritage with modern artistry.

Renard’s work has been exhibited across the United States and internationally in cities like London, Paris, Mexico City, and São Paulo.

His photography has earned numerous Best of Show awards and has featured on the cover of Black & White magazine.

DON'T KIT-NAP KITTENS A kitten's best chance for survival is staying with mom. If you come across a kitten or litter of kittens remember the rule of 8.

• If mom is away more than 8 hours, the kittens are likely orphaned and in need of human care.

• Encourage mom to return. Do not hover and maintain a distance of at least 8 feet.

• At 8 weeks old, kittens (and mom) should be spayed/neutered and can be adopted.

Contact your local shelter or a veterinarian if kittens are visibly sick or injured.

• Wave large trash bags towards Coyotes to scare them off.

Meet Boots and Sneakers, the ultimate best-friend duo. Boots, a 5-year-old German Shepherd/ Husky mix, is brave, curious, and always ready to greet you. Sneakers, her 6-year-old Alaskan Husky sister, may be shy at first but quickly warms up with sweet kisses. STOUGH CANYON NATURE CENTER

Stough Canyon Nature Center | 2300 Walnut Avenue | 818.238.5440 | www.BurbankCA.gov/NatureCenter The Stough Canyon Nature Center, nestled in the Verdugo Mountains, features an exhibit hall with educational displays, a small library, a classroom, and an outdoor amphitheater. Hiking trails start from Stough Canyon Nature Center. Free maps and information on trails and local habitats are available.

HIKES & ACTIVITIES Activities are 1 to 1½ hours. Hike length and difficulty will vary. Hikers should bring water and wear appropriate clothes and shoes. Meet at the Stough Canyon Nature Center unless otherwise noted. Adults are required to accompany children under 12 years of age. Strollers are not recommended for hikes. Rain cancels hikes. All hikes are subject to change.

STOUGH CANYON AND WILDWOOD CANYON HIKING TRAILS The Verdugo Mountain way is an extensive trail system which extends from the Sun Valley area, south to Brand Park in Glendale, and northeast to Tujunga and La Crescenta. Please adhere to posted signage and follow safety guidelines.

DeBell Golf Club | 1500 Walnut Avenue | 818.845.0022 | www.DeBellGolf.com The DeBell Golf Club is an 18-hole facility which features 5,608 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 71. The course rating is 68.9 and it has a slope rating of 122 on Kikuyu grass. DeBell Golf Club also offers four clubs to be a part of: The Burbank Men’s Golf Club, The Burbank Senior Men’s Club, The Burbank Women’s Club, and The Lady Duffers.

This club offers a regulation 18-hole course and a Par-3 course. The regulation course is very tight and hilly making it challenging for the more seasoned golfer yet still enjoyable for beginners. Reservations can be made up to seven days in advance by calling 818.845.0022.

AQUATIC FITNESS & SPORTS Aquacise

Aquacise is a fun and effective full-body water workout set to motivating upbeat music. We mix it up using pool noodles and foam dumbbells to safely move through the water performing a variety of grounded and suspended pool exercises interspersed with cardio bursts. Develop muscle tone (upper/lower body + abdominals) and cardiovascular fitness while taking advantage of water's buoyancy and its protective nature on your joints. It's a blast — and you will be hooked!

Equipment is not provided. Participants are encouraged to bring their own pool noodles and foam dumbbells (water weights).

Want to defy gravity? Come join us in performing a variety of movements in the pool that would be otherwise impossible on land. Set to upbeat music, this is a super fun and challenging deep water fitness program with no-impact, using a variety of exercises to deliver a high energy cardiovascular and strength-building workout through the resistance of the water. Participants must bring their own flotation belts and must be comfortable in deep water.

Burbank Barracudas Youth Water Polo Team

Ready to take your swimming skills to the next level? The Barracudas Youth Water Polo Team is designed for motivated athletes who are ready for more than swim lessons. This fun, supportive, high-energy program introduces players to the fundamentals of water polo while building strength, endurance, confidence, and teamwork.

Participants will learn essential water polo skills, including passing, shooting, ball handling, defensive positioning, and game strategy, all while improving overall swimming ability and conditioning. Practices are structured and age-appropriate, focusing on fitness, skill development, and teamwork. Players will also have opportunities to participate in recreational scrimmages or games, giving them a chance to experience friendly competition, goal-setting, and team spirit in a positive environment.

The Breakthrough Sports Swim Training Academy is elite training for youth swimmers of varying skill levels at an affordable price.

Breakthrough Sports coaches, including former professionals, will focus on specific aspects of stroke mechanics and muscle memory for all four competitive strokes. Each day will focus on one of the competitive strokes; breaking the stroke down into body balance, leg propulsion, arm position, timing and rhythm. This program is designed to help swimmers practice skills that will assist them with their local community team, club team, high school team and more.

AQUATICS Water Polo Training Academy

The Breakthrough Sports Water Polo Training Academy is elite training for youth water polo players of varyingskill levels at an affordable price. Breakthrough Sports coaches will develop shooting, blocking, treading and swimming mechanics, improve water polo IQ and most importantly boost confidence in a fun environment. This program is designed to help water polo players learn and practice skills that will assist them with their local community team, club team, high school team and more.

Prerequisites & Requirements:The ability to swim 50 yards continuous front crawl and back stroke, as well as the ability to tread in deep water for 1 minute.

Proof of a swim evaluation required.

Parent & Child | Level B

With adult supervision and aid, this class will teach children introductory swim and water safety skills similar to our Level 1 course. For children who have had limited exposure to aquatic environments, this class will work on improving skills and comfort in the water. The class is also designed for children who are not quite tall enough for Level 1 but have the ability to learn the same skills.

The goal of the class is for the child to learn basic independent swim skills, such as floating, gliding, and combined arm and leg movement with forward progression with support.All participants must have a guardian in the water, one guardian per enrolled child.Additional children will not be permitted in the class.Participants must wear a swim diaper if not fully toilet-trained.

In Level 3, instructors will build on the foundational skills taught in Level 2 with the goal of developing fundamental stroke mechanics for improved swimming. Students will begin to learn rotary breathing and swim longer distances.

Prerequisite: Completion of Level 1 OR the ability to front glide for 2 body lengths + float independently for 3 seconds on back.

Objective: Fundamental Aquatic Skills

Prerequisite: Completion of Level 3 or the ability to swim front crawl with rotary breathing for 15 yards and backstroke for 15 yards.

TRAINING & CERTIFICATION Red Cross Lifeguard Training

Learn how to effectively prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies with the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training program. Upon successful completion, participants will receive certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED, and First Aid for Public Safety Personnel. Class sessions are a combination of virtual and in-class videos, demonstrations, and exercises. Class curriculum and schedule will be presented to those who successfully complete the in-water assessment on the scheduled first date. Prerequisites & Requirements: Participants must be age 16 years by the last day of the class verifiable by birth certificate. Certification will not be issued if valid birth certificate is not produced by the end of the class date. Participants must also pass an in-water skills evaluation on the first scheduled class date.

This class is a basic introduction to ballet and tap. The class begins with ballet. The ballet portion teaches the fundamentals of ballet through a warm up, across the floor technique, and basic choreography. The tap portion teaches basic tap steps and rhythm.

Artistic Italian Tiles

Create Old world painted tiles in the style of Majorca. Choose a project from many samples or design an original pattern. Participants will paint, glaze and finish several tiles during the four weeks of classes. Instructor provides all materials needed, and will fire your finished work off site. This class is fun and very creative for teens, as well as adults.

Basic Drawing

Beginning Oil Painting With Kevin McCants

This beginner course will teach the basics of oil painting. Participants will begin by learning the basic materials, how to correctly use and maintain them. Participants will also learn how to mix a variety of tones or (shading) to help create the illusion of three-dimensional form on canvas, while working from still life configurations.

Participants are responsible for their own materials.

It’s Just Clay

In this class, novice participants will learn how to hand build and/ or how to throw on the wheel. Advanced participants can work independently, but projects can be given as well. Participants will also learn how to recycle clay and make tools. One on one instruction will be given as needed. Wheel throwing instruction will be available to all participants.

This intermediate bellydance class will consist of deep conditioning of the body positions, chest and hip isolations, hand and arm patterns, and hip work (drops, lifts, mayas, umis, figure eights-flat and up, and circles). Barre

Barre is a low-impact, toning and stretching workout which uses small, isolated movements to target and build definition in the major muscle groups. This class also utilizes a ballet barre to incorporate dance techniques while toning, stretching and strengthening. This class is open to all levels.

TEEN & ADULT CLASSES Beginning Yoga

This class is geared toward new and beginning yoga practitioners.

We'll move slowly and break down the basics of Hatha yoga in a systematic way. The whole body and being will feel stretched, awakened, calm and centered. For anyone who'sbeen hesitant to try a yoga class, this one is for you. The class ends with a short deep relaxation session.

Rusty Riders Bicycling

Bicycling training for adults who want a safe environment to build or rebuild their confidence on a bicycle. We will cover bicycle riding skills and maintenance basics, learn about road safety, and develop all the skills needed to enjoy riding around Burbank. This class is not for complete beginners; participants must have some experience riding a bike.

Roll It Out

Learn great self massage techniques using therapy balls and a foam roller in this class. Whether you do too much, or too little or have chronic issues, these techniques will help iron things out so you have less pain or discomfort and can carry on your merry way.

American Cancer Society Discovery Shop is an all items donated high-end thrift store, run by the American Cancer Society. The Discovery Shop sells everything from home décor to clothing and donates 91% of their proceeds towards cancer funding research. Even if a donated item has been deemed unsellable, the Discovery Shop still donates it to a non-profit charity names. Hope of the Valley. Home Again L.A. (HALA) is a nonprofit agency serving unhoused, resident families in Burbank. HALA is committed to expanding services and strengthening a holistic, clientcentered approach to meeting basic needs while creating pathways to long-term housing stability.

The Sewing, Knitting & Crocheting group at the Joslyn Center is the place to be if you love the craft, and want to simultaneously support various charities through your project donations! Come make new friends and have a great time sharing and working on projects together, regardless of your experience, all levels are welcome! In the group, you will be making and donating items such as hats, baby blankets, scarves, and quilt blankets All projects are donated to support local, national and international charities. Yarn and patterns are supplied to the members through yarn donations and some dollar donations to our group. Completed projects are either delivered locally or shipped nationally to the charity by the group leader.
