Burbank Veterans Committee The Burbank Veterans Committee has tirelessly worked with the City of Burbank to organize many events and activities in support of our veterans. The organization started as a grassroots group known as the Veterans Commemorative Committee. In 1993, the organization was officially renamed as the Burbank Veterans Committee and chaired by Mickey DePalo. The Committee assists in planning special event and programs namely Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies, and coordinates commmunity partnership efforts to support the “Hands Across the Battlefield” program.

Veterans Day in Burbank For over 50 consecutive years, the honorable Veterans Day ceremony has been held at McCambridge Park. This tradition continues as a live event at the War Memorial on the corner of Amherst Drive and San Fernando Boulevard. The event features a pre-ceremony concert by the Burbank Community Band, a Condor Squadron flyover, and recognitions by dignitaries.

Friday, November 11 @ 11am These events will be held at the McCambridge Park War Memorial and will be re-broadcast on Spectrum Cable 6, AT&T Channel 99 or the City of Burbank YouTube Channel.

Military Service Recognition Program

The Military Service Recognition Program was established by the City of Burbank to honor and recognize currently serving, active military personnel from Burbank.

On Veterans Day 2019, a renovated War Memorial was rededicated on the 50th anniversary of the original construction.

This was made possible through the combined efforts from the City of Burbank, the Burbank Veterans Committee, a grant from Los Angeles County Regional Open Space District, and through community donations.

Larry L. Maxam Memorial Park Larry L. Maxam USMC 1948-1968 Posthumous Medal of Honor Recipient

In 2010 Pacific Park was renamed and dedicated to honor posthumous Medal of Honor recipient and Burbank resident, Larry L. Maxam. At the park, there is a memorial naming plaque as well as a plaque depicting the Presidential Letter of Citation for his award.

CLASS REGISTRATION INFORMATION GENERAL INFORMATION • All class registrations will only be accepted through the second class meeting and all original class fees will apply.

• Non-Resident fees apply to those living outside of the City of Burbank. Non-Residents must include an additional $10 per person, per class.

• Enrollment is subject to availability. Programs are filled on a first come, first served basis.

• All programs are subject to cancellation if minimum enrollment numbers are not met.

• Class schedules may be subject to change without notice. For the most up-to-date information, please visit www.burbankparks.com.

• Guests of Enrolled Participants: Permitting classroom visits are at the discretion of the Instructor who has the responsibility to protect the learning environment and develop rules and procedures to maintain a safe classroom setting. Classroom visits are arranged directly with the Instructor under any rules that the Instructor may establish.

Refund / Transfer Policy The City of Burbank strives to provide quality recreation classes and programs. If you are unable to attend or are not satisfied with a class, we will be happy to arrange a transfer to another class (if space is available and is prior to the second class) or process a refund if the following guidelines are met: • A $10 processing fee will be deducted from all participant initiated refund requests.

• Class lasting 3 or more weeks - A request for refund/ transfer must be given to registration staff a minimum of one business day prior to the second class meeting.

No refund/transfer will be issued after the second class meeting.

• Class or workshop lasting 2 or fewer weeks - A request for refund/transfer must be given to registration staff a minimum of five business days prior to the scheduled start date of the class or workshop. No refund/transfer will be issued after this date.

• Material/Supply fees are non-refundable.

Refunds issued by check will take between 3-6 weeks to receive in the mail.

Adult Learn to Swim Learn how to swim or perfect your swimming skills.

From beginner to advanced, we have a class that will be suitable for you. The curriculum for adult classes is designed for you to progress at your pace/speed.

The Breakthrough Sports Swim Training Academy is elite training for youth swimmers of ALL skill levels and an affordable price. Breakthrough Sports coaches, including former professionals, will focus on specific aspects of stroke mechanics and muscle memory for all four competitive strokes. Each day will focus on one of the competitive strokes; breaking the stroke down into body balance, leg propulsion, arm proportion, timing and rhythm. This program is designed to help swimmers practice skills that will assist them with their local community team, club team, High School team and more.

The Breakthrough Sports Water Polo Training Academy is elite training for youth water polo players of ALL skill levels at an affordable price. Breakthrough Sports coaches develop shooting, blocking, treading and swimming mechanics, improve water polo IQ and most importantly boost confidence in a fun environment.

This program is designed to help water polo players learn and practice skills that will assist them with their local community team, club team, High School team and more.

The Youth Swim Team is for young athletes who are interested in competing at the recreational level or who are looking for a more advanced workout. Practices are geared towards race preparation, and advanced strength & conditioning. Swimmers may have an option to participate in competitions based on availability.

Participants may not hold a USA Swimming card within the past 12 months. The first day of practice will be reserved for a formal evaluation and parent meeting.

Though swimmers will be encouraged to compete, competition is not a requirement for this program.

Prerequisite: The ability to swim 100 yards continuous freestyle using appropriate turns, 100 yards continuous backstroke using appropriate turns, 25 yards breaststroke, and 25 yards butterfly. Proof of a swim evaluation required prior to the start of the class.

Level 2 | GOLDFISH

Youth Water Polo Team The Water Polo Team is a recreational competitive team where participants are eligible to play in games against other recreational teams through the season. Participants must be able to demonstrate 50 continuous yards in both front crawl and back stroke, as well as the ability to tread in deep water for 1 minute.

Pending Public Health orders, classes and/or competitions will be adjusted to meet all safety requirements.

Private Lessons taught in the Activity Pool are not recommended for advanced swimmers or older/taller participants.

DeBell Golf Club | 1500 Walnut Avenue | 818.845.0022 | www.debellgolf.com The DeBell Golf Club is an 18-hole facility which features 5,608 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 71. The course rating is 68.9 and it has a slope rating of 122 on Kikuyu grass. DeBell Golf Club also offers four clubs to be a part of: The Burbank Men’s Golf Club, The Burbank Senior Men’s Club, The Burbank Women’s Club, and The Lady Duffers.

Hiking trails start from Stough Canyon Nature Center. Free maps and information on trails and local habitats are available.

HIKES & ACTIVITIES Activities are 1 to 1½ hours. Hike length and difficulty will vary. Hikers should bring water and wear appropriate clothes and shoes. Meet at the Stough Canyon Nature Center unless otherwise noted. Adults are required to accompany children under 12 years of age. Strollers are not recommended for hikes. Rain cancels hikes. All hikes are subject to change.

STOUGH CANYON AND WILDWOOD CANYON HIKING TRAILS The Verdugo Mountainway is an extensive trail system which extends from the Sun Valley area, south to Brand Park in Glendale, and northeast to Tujunga and La Crescenta.

Please adhere to posted signage and follow safety guidelines.

Trails are open from sunrise to sunset. Parking lots will close by 10pm nightly.

Fairytale Ballet Just like Cinderella’s glass slippers, this class will be a perfect fit for any beginning ballerina! Garri Dance Staff will incorporate magical props and enchanting music while introducing basic ballet positions and exercises. For the health and safety of our dancers, each participants must purchase their own prop bundle to use each week in class.

Four year olds are on the go! Four Peas can run, hop, climb, and throw a ball. Their increasing coordination makes them faster and more deliberate. Their increasing strength makes them able to perform many new gymnastics skills. Their cognitive development is growing by leaps and bounds, and they are able to interpret and remember learning objectives. Four Peas can recognize and name many letters and numbers.

Three Pea Three-year olds are ready to go! Three Peas are gaining increased motor development, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills! Three Peas are also quickly assimilating language and are able to understand and independently follow basic instructions in the gymnastics class. The three pea curriculum is designed to provide skill development on floor, beam, bars, and vault. Three Peas work on forward rolls, straddle rolls, and Three Pea cartwheels. They increase balance with beam work that includes alternating forward kicks, squat holds, releve walks, and beam crawls.

Ballet 6-10

A different project every week, featuring multimedia art materials. Participants will experience the fun making their own statement with paint, drawing, crayon, and pastels. The one and a half hour time allows for more expressive development. Themes from around the world also expand cultural awareness.

This class is catered for beginner/intermediate dancers. Participants will learn the fundamentals of ballet through: barre technique, terminology, proper alignment, and across the floor combinations. Flamenco Dance Level 1

This class is for the dancer who loves rhythm, wants to learn flamenco dance styles, is interested in castanet playing, and loves to perform. This class teaches Spanish rhythms, hand clapping, footwork and teaches how to dance with extensions (e.g. fans, handkerchiefs, shawl). Participants can be new to dance, had 0-2 years of flamenco dance, or had some form of any dance style. Character dance shoes or flamenco shoes are required. Uniform is black long skirt and navy blue leotard (short or long sleeves).

Explore the mystique of classical martial arts implements on your quest for self-mastery. Dynamic classes offer a balanced mix of traditional training and modern selfdefense application. Curriculum covers a wide variety including Sai, Tonfa, Kama and Nunchaku (alternating each session). Training develops improvisational skills, strong body, flexibility and peaceful attitude.

This class is for both beginners and intermediates.

Beginners will explore the basics: cast on, knit and purl stitch, ribbing, binding off, fringing and weaving in ends. Intermediate participants will explore pattern reading, shaping, increasing/decreasing lace, cable, and more.

Aquacise Aquacise is a fun-filled water aerobics class that mixes exercise with a social atmosphere. This program is designed to get you moving and exercising with the benefit of a water supporting your weight and taking the pressure off your joints. With upbeat music to keep you motivated, aquacise is open to all participates ages 15 - 99+. There is no minimum fitness level required.

It’s a fun and challenging total-body program that will leave you long, lean, and drenched! Bring a mat. One (1lb) or two (2lbs) pound weights optional, but please do not bring weights that are heavier as they are not appropriate for this format.

Barre-LESS Sculpt Barre Sculpt class is now barre-LESS: adapted so the movements can be performed socially distanced in the center of the room. Come for graceful dance conditioning, isometrics and interval training using balls, bands, and light weights to increase the heart rate while deeply sculpting arms, abs, booty, and thighs, plus improve posture! Bring your own 1lb or 2lb weights and yoga mat. A $20 material fee is due to the instructor at the first class if you do not have a mini ball and band.
