The hardest winter in Madrid
daniel millán Nurse Sanitas Hospital La Moraleja
MADRID — SPAIN
«I would finish my shift at ten or twelve at night and travel home on a deserted road. It was March and winter in Madrid, very dark and depressing. I would have a good cry in the car. This was unbelievable, it couldn’t be happening, there was no one around. Some days were really frustrating. Patients would come into the emergency unit walking and after a couple of hours, or the next day, they had died. You felt powerless, because you couldn’t do anything, the demand was too high and the resources too few. People were dying and their family couldn’t even be with them».
