Lambs ears

The velvety silver-green leaves of this low-growing perennial are a tactile joy! It flourishes with little care once established, and thrives in dry conditions. Position in a warm, sunny spot with well-drained soil. Lift and divide the clump every few years to keep it looking fresh.

Lemon myrtle

When crushed or after rain, this bush tucker plant’s leaves release a gorgeous lemon scent and can be used in teas, baking and more. Best in subtropical climates, it will grow in most warm, frost-free zones. Plant in full sun, in well-draining soil enriched with organic matter.

Rosemary

A small-to-medium shrub with an upright habit, its small, narrow leaves are essential to many Mediterranean dishes. The slightly coarse foliage is aromatic – put it where you will brush past to release the oils. Plant the creeping form to trail over pots or retaining walls, or as an attractive groundcover.

Zinnia

The bright blooms of this annual are instant mood-lifters. The multi-petalled flowers are a treat for the eyes, available in vibrant shades and in a gorgeous array of forms, ranging from pom-pom to star-shaped blooms. Sow seeds or plant seedlings in an area with full sun and well-drained soil.
