VJBL TEAMS OF THE WEEK

We welcome the players, coaches and families from the following teams who will actively participate in the BIG V Game Night experience tonight!
SCW GAME – UNDER 12.2 GIRLS
D1M GAME – UNDER 12.1 BOYS

COACHES CORNER – PREVIEW FROM THE COACH

This week the Championship Women have a tough game against long time rivals the Sunbury Jets. The teams have already faced off this season with the Boomers securing a hard fought 15 point win down at Sunbury.
This will be a very different Sunbury team with the group adding two imports, Ida Andersson and Dimitra Gkizani to the group. Both have taken no time to get accustomed to the league, averaging 12 and 15 points per game respectively.
The Boomers are hoping to bounce back into the winners circle after losing their first game of the season to Wyndham last week. We expect the match up of Olivia Bontempelli and Ida Andersson to be a great showcase of the talent the league has.
On Sunday the Women complete their second game of the doubleheader, facing off against the McKinnon Cougars at GESAC.

COACHES CORNER – PREVIEW FROM THE COACH
Hi Boomers fans,

We are genuinely happy to be returning to EDSC for a very exciting home game against Keysborough. Our Boomers are hoping to secure a third straight win and climb up the ladder, but we know we have our work cut out for ourselves.
We are back at home after a big win at Bendigo last week and we want to keep the momentum going. Last week, Sam Alexander came up firing from the bench and had 29 points (11/17 shooting) and 6 steals while Jake Mawby, Ollie Slawinski and Bailey Milligan also did a lot of work on offense with 12, 10 and 10 points respectively; Jaime Uhr-Henry added 9 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks, proving once again that he’s one of the league’s top rim protectors. Also worth noting that the Boomers had 10 players on the scoreboard, showing once again how deep the roster is in all positions.

The Boomers have been able to develop their young roster while delivering positive outcomes on the court by securing 5 wins in 8 games and we would love to see that continue to be the case, especially heading into May’s challenging fixtures.
Today we welcome the Keysborough Cougars who, albeit new to the Division, have won 4 of their first 8 games and certainly are not an easy opponent.
Led by Jacob Oryem (16.6 ppg & 7.7 rpg) and Darcy Watson (11.6 ppg & 6.3 rpg), the Cougars have proven to be a tough match-up so far this season and will want to add another win to their tally when they take the court at EDSC; they are certainly not a team to be underestimated.
On the court, concentration, intensity, good defence, rebounds and ball movement are key elements that can help us get another win.
Off the court, our fans’ support is very important to us and we hope to give you all plenty to cheer about.
Thank you very much for coming to EDSC and supporting our Boomers. We hope you enjoy yourselves and spread the word as we would love to pack out EDSC throughout the season.

COACHES CORNER – PREVIEW FROM THE COACH

Welcome back to EDSC for our D1 Men’s team’s sixth home game of the season. Yet again the game is another important one for us as we look to even the ledger again to 4 wins and 4 losses.
Last week the team had a tough loss against a good Warrandyte team. We had some solid play at times, but Warrandyte’s consistency put them over the top in a close game. Peter Deng was again a key contributor with 22 points 9 rebounds and despite a slow start Joshua Uhr Henry again was solid with 13 points.
Today’s opponent is RMIT who have put together a solid season so far but are coming off a loss to Chelsea and will be looking to get back on track. They have some talent that will need to handled to ensure we win. They are led by import Steve Coffey who will fill all the columns of the stat sheet and he will be supported by Daniel Steen and Louse Agon. We will be looking for contributions from all our players in an effort to counter the talent of RMIT.

This game promises to be a great one as both teams will be hungry to bounce back from last week’s losses.
On a personal note, it’s an honour to be a part of the Will Hoole Memorial Trophy round to remember a friend and teammate of so many at the club and support R U OK?
Thanks for your support, we hope you enjoy the day and spread the word as we would love to pack out 'EDSC' throughout the season.
