WESTFIELD DONCASTER, 619 DONCASTER RD, DONCASTER

We welcome the players, coaches and families from the following teams who will actively participate in the BIG V Game experience today!
Welcome to all of our Boomers fans for our last regular season home game as we head to Warrnambool to round out the season next weekend. With a mathematical chance of finals still in our grasp at the time of writing this, we’re hungry to notch up another pair of wins against current finalsbound teams to close out what has been a very successful last third of the season going 4-2 in our last six games against 4 of the top 5 teams on the standings at this stage in the year.
Having taken over coaching the team in Round 8 which happened to be the week of our prior game against United where we had a healthy lead deep in that game but didn’t close it out going down 87-80 on that occasion, we’re committed to rectifying that result and gauging our growth against Gippsland who happen to be the other top 5 team.
Coming off wins against Shepparton and Warrnambool in recent weeks, our clash with RMIT last Sunday wasn’t played on our terms and ultimately, we didn’t defend at a high enough rate against a high octane offensively geared team going down 97-88 in a game of major momentum swings. With Deng (26pts), Alhaddad (22pts), Uhr-Henry (19pts) and Solakidis (15pts) all notching double figures I will be demanding more at the other end of the floor which is where our recent success has stemmed from in today’s match-up.
Today we welcome Gippsland United on the back end of their double header who have shown the benefit of continuity after winning Division 2 last season and bringing back 80% of their roster from last season with many players having a long association with the program dating back over a decade.
Speaking to their evenness, they currently have five players averaging double digit points across the season led by Ben Barlow (15.7ppg), import Oliver Amajoyi (13.5ppg) plus the seasoned trio of Hughes, O’Brien and Canovan all chipping in.
At the conclusion of the game we invite all players, families, VJBL teams of the week and game day personnel upstairs for a bite to eat as we reciprocate Gippsland’s hospitality from earlier in the season and thank those who have played their part in what has been a thoroughly rewarding nine weeks where lifelong friendships have formed and a roadmap set for the future.
