COACHES CORNER – PREVIEW FROM THE COACH
We are very much looking forward to today’s game against Geelong United, which is of vital importance to our team.
We suffered a big loss at home last week against Wyndham, in a game where 6 of our players were missing due to illness, injury and personal reasons and the Devils capitalised on our fatigue in the second half, opened the lead, ran the floor and we simply had no answers or energy left, especially since we had minimal rotation options in the point guard, power forward and centre positions.
That said, we were leading for almost the entire first half, which is the main positive we take away from that game and this shows we can compete against top teams.

As far as today’s game goes, we know we’re going up against a very athletic team who likes to run in transition and tries to keep the tempo up at all times
This helps United record high numbers offensively and it is worth noting that 5 of its players (Marach Marach, Bailey Bruce, Hamish Goodier, Jack Moran and Jay Posterino) average double-digits in points per game.
Our transition defence has to be effective and we must make sure we don’t give Geelong any opportunities to run the floor; Seth Garcia is the guy who gets them ticking as his passes open up the floor for their players to run the lanes and get easy points in transition.

We are determined to prove that last week’s huge defeat is not representative of our team and the level in which we operate; we have a point to make and we will do our best to build a multi-game winning streak starting this weekend as we are reaching the pointy end of the season. The positive thing is that the boys’ confidence has not been shaken by the loss to Wyndham; we are determined to learn from our mistakes and we cannot wait to show everyone how good we can be with a full, healthy roster.
As with every home game, we rely on all of you to make a difference with your voice and support; the boys genuinely love playing in front of you and we, as coaches, really appreciate the way you push our team to do well.
