12th Annual Craig Bowers Memorial Basketball Tournament
12 years ago March, Craig Bowers tragically lost his life in a skiing accident while on vacation in Colorado.At the time, Mr. Bowers was an RCHSAssistant Principal who devoted his time and passion for learning to his students. Bowers was also an avid athletics supporter and even a standout athlete, spending much of his downtime coaching his own children or playing golf. Prior to his time at RCHS, Mr. Bowers taught and coached at his alma mater, Greenville High School. His impact on those around him carries on today as many recall the way he touched their lives and for being remembered as caring, kind hearted, and full of life. 12 years later, RCISD Athletics is committed to carrying on his legacy with his namesake the only way we know how… through sport.As Nelson Mandela once said, “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire.” Mr. Bowers’passing reminds us all that no matter what team we play for, the greatest thing we can do for others is to inspire them to be great in whatever they want to do.
The Craig Bowers MemorialAthletic Scholarship is funded through the Craig Bowers Memorial BasketballTournament every year in honor of Mr. Bowers. We hope through his namesake to honor his passion for athletics and his legacy of integrity, competitiveness, and love to carry on through this scholarship.
