\ililliem J. DuBrucq, 72, retired chief inspector of the National Oak Flooring Manufacturers' Association and a widely known figure in the industry, died Oct, b at Kennedy Hospital, Memphis, Tenn. He had been ill two years.

He is survived by his widow, Frances; a son, William J., Jr., of Miami, Fla,; four daughters, Mrs. Carl Henry of Newington, Conn.; Mrs. George Benedict and Miss Betty DuBrucq of Memphis; and Mrs. Albert Dutton of Nashville, Tenn.l four brothers, Ted E,, R, L., and R. C. DuBrucq of Wisconsin; and Glenn DuBrucq of Cincinnati; and six grandchildren.

lYalter Thomas lloward,49, who had been in the lumber business since 1945, died Sunday in his home in Phoenix, Arizona.

Mr. Howard was associated with a brother in the lumber industry at Springtreld, Mass. He moved to Phoenix 10 years ago and was an adviser to lumber firms.

He was a member of IIoo-Hoo, the Maqonic Lodge in Springfield, Phoenix Consistory, El Zafiba}l- Shrine and Valley Country Club, both in Phoenix.

Mr. Howard, a native of Worcester, Mass., is survived by his widow, Marguerite; a son, Robert J. of Glendale; his mother, Mrs. Stella Howard of Springfield; a brother, Ralph of Wilbraham, Mass.; and one grandchild.

Edward Richard Murphy, managing director of the Vermiculite Institute of Chicago, died on October 19 at Chicago \Mesley Me- morial Hospital after a prolonged illness. He was 62 years old.

Mr. Murphy had a distinguished career in the construction industry and was well known throughout the United States and Canada. Before assuming his duties with the institute in Novembet, 7g47, he had been associated with the Metal Lath Manufacturers Association and served with the structural clay products industry code authority during the National Recovery Administration.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his widow, Muriel Snyder Murphy, and by a daughter, Mrs. Janet Elizabeth Mclaughlin.
