Paul Orban, Orban Lumber Company, was elected vicegerent snark of the Los Angeles Hoo-Hoo district and presiclent of the Los Angeles Hoo-Hoo Club at the annual meeting of the club helcl Friday evening, September 26, at the Brentrvood Country Club, Santa Monica. Bill Ream, George E. Ream Company, Los Angeles, rvas elected vice president, and Earl Galbraith, T. M. Cobb Co., Los Angeles, was re-elected secretarytreasuref.

President-elect Paul Orban plans to ntake 1947-48 an active Hoo-Hoo vear, and he and his committees are arranging for some interesting activities, including luncheor, meetings, golf tournaments and concats. A membership drive is already unclerrvay to increase the Club roster.

Dry Kiln Used Almost Exclusively For Hardwoods

The nen' Nfoore dry kiln at White Brothers' 500 High Street, Oakland yard, completed in July, is norv handling its seventh charge. Its 40,000 ft. capacity is being rrsed almost exclusively for drying hardu,oods, including oak, maple, and some Central American woods.

Mr. Follett attended the tn'o n'eeks' cotlrse in kiln rlrying given in San Francisco by the Forest Products Laboratory from July 21 to August 1. The instrttction rvork at the class lr,as hanclled by three men from tl.re government I-aboratory, ancl the course was arranged by the Forest Utilization Service Unit of tl-re California Forest arrd ltange Experiment Station at Berkeley. Byron Cannon, of the Cutler-Orosi l-umber Co., Cutler, Calif., and his son Byron, Jr., have returned from a vacation trip to Alaska. On a lO-day cruise on the rvest side of Admiralty Island, Southeastern Alaska, they hunted bear, ancl on the Sth day Byron shot a 900-1b. brol'n bear (santc as the Kodiak bear) using a 30-6 Remington rifle at 50 yards. The pelt rvill make a rug about eight feet square. On the 9th day his son killed a 7.50-1b. silver tip bear. This pelt, u'ith fur like silver fox, rvill make a 7-f.ortt s(lrlare rug. The other members of the party tvere l\[rs. Cannon ancl a friend, N{iss \{argery Dear-r of Pocatello, Idaho. They rvere gone 30 davs.
