Lumber shipments of 411 mills reporting to the National Lumber Trade Barometer were 8.4 per cent below production for the 'iveek ending September 27, 1917. In the same week new orders of these miills u'ere 5.0 per cent belorv production. Unfillecl order files of the reporting mills amounted to 60 per cent of stocks. For reporting soft'rvood mills, unfilled orders are equivalent to 3O days' production at the current rate, and gross stocks are equivalent to 47 days' production.
For the vear-to-date, shipments of reporting identical rnills rvere 1.1 per cent allove production; orders n'ere 3.5 per cent above production.
Compared to the a\rerage corresponding rveek of 1935-39, pro<luction of reporting rnills rvas 19.4 per cent above; shipments u'ere 8.1 per ceut above; orders were I1.6 per cent above.
