Bright ldea: Tinted Treated Wood

Pressure treated wood is getting more colorful. Osmose Wood Preserving, Inc. has introduced WoodShades, a family of natural colors for CCA pressure treated wood.

The water-based pigmented acrylic colorant system is commercially applied at the treating plant prior to CCA treatment using automated spray application equipment. WoodShades colorants mask the traditional green color of CCA treated lumber, giving the wood surface an appealing redwood, cedar or driftwood gray color shade, sometimes preferred by d-i-yers.

The wood can be recoated. if desired, with either oil or water-based clear sealer or stain products.

A pioneer in wood colorant technology, Osmose introduced Sunwood redwood and cedar color additive for treated wood in 1982. In 1988. it developed a line of canned brush-on coatings for products, and two ye later added environmentally acrylic water-based coatings.

The Osmose Research & Development Dept. used the same technology to develop the WoodShades stains.
