NEW DISTRIBUTION FACILITY
(Continued from page 15 )
Sales are restricted to retailers, wholesalers and industrial accounts.
An additional sales and buying office is maintained in Grass Valley, Ca., staffed by Elmer Lewis and Bill Novak.
A comprehensive mill building, centrally located in the yard, includes an office, saw filing room and a lunch room. Machinery includes a 16x24 bull sizer (for timbers); a 6xl5 planer matcher; a 7" line-bar resaw and a center split resaw. An ingenious fence machine makes a series of cuts, then moves the pieces to alazy Susan for sorting and eventual assembly.
Approximately 3.5 million board feet of timbers can be stored in the yard, under a system ofwater pipes that ensures complete sprinkling.
There are currently 3 new White Freightliners (and 6 trailers) sporting the blue and white All-Coast colors parked in the yard, within eyeshot of the White Freightliner plant across the street. But appearances are deceiving, because All-Coast didn't buy the trucks across the street, but rather in Vancouver, British Columbia. It seems that through some transactions involving Canadian dollars, AllCoast was able to save $7,500 a rig by buying in far-off Vancouver with Canadian dollars, rather than from the plant across the street.
More Service
All-Coast, which is a division of Hampton Lumber Sales Co. in Portland, plans a big expansion in the service phase of their business which includes purchase of l3-15 new tractors and 25-30 trailers. Their geographical distribution area includes California. Nevada. Arizona. Colorado. Utah and West Texas. Present national selling encompasses railcars of cedar and pine, but will soon include mixed car shipments going to eastern markets.
All-Coast is not alone. incidentally. in the small framing community of Chino, some 30 miles east of Los Angeles. Parr Lumber Co. is building a distribution yard and International Forest Products has had a facility there for several years. Barr Lumber Co. has l0 acres and Santa Ana Lumber Co. also has property; both reportedly plan retail operations. Rumors abound of other forest products companies planning to build.
With All-Coast's seasoned team of professionals and their sophisticated sales and distribution facility, it seems a fair bet that we're all going to hear a lot more from the little town of Chino.
L-P's New Sonora Division
Louisiana-Pacific Corp. has sold to Itel Corp. for $2.2 million its long term lease on the former Fibreboard Corp. headquarters building in San Francisco.
Sale of the lease was made possi- ble by Louisiana-Pacific's reorganization of the Fibreboard operations into four new L-P divisions. Fibreboard's forest products operations, heart of the merger, have been formed into the new Sonora division of L-P, headquartered in Standard, Ca., just outside of Sonora.

Trucking Firm Expanding
A new Portland, Or., office to serve the entire Pacific Northwest has been opened by Stidham Trucking, Inc. of Yreka, Ca., according to Larry Stidham, president.
As part of a service-oriented expansion, the new Stidham office is acting as an agent for a major West .Coast carrier. The new arrangement extends Stidham's service capability to a five state area for the first time. The flat bed service will be available for a full range of forest products and building materials. Neil Monaghan heads the office with Ruth Patterson as office manager.
At Yreka headquarters, Gary Campbell has been promoted to be in charge of all commerce and operations matters.
New Hardwood Company
A new hardwood importation company, called Sumwood, Inc., is being formed by Jim Summerlin, who recently resigned from Robert S. Osgood, Inc. of Los Angeles, the MacMillan-Jardine subsidiarv.
"I have always felt that the importation of hardwoods," notes Summerlin, "is a very personalized business and to be done properly it must be purchased and sold by the same person, Sumwood is being created to work within this framework of personalized service," he said.
Expected to be operational by early December, Sumwood's mailing address is P.O. Box 45822, Los Angeles 90045.
Summerlin has spent the past 11 years in wood product import/ export.
