Rounds Lumber has spent 40 years findinghard to find things.
130,000 grape stakes overnight?
A snap.
25,000 board feet for some wooden whatchamacallits by tomonow afternoon?
A somewhat tougher request, perhaps, but we'll fill it. Just like we've been filling tough orders for people all over the United States for some 40 years now.
In fact, it's thatkind of digging and willingness to go after the unusual order, be it big or small, that's built the Rounds reputation.
Which is why a lot of customers think of us as sort of a last resort. (You know, if Rounds can't get it, it probably doesn't exist.)
Which is all well and good.
Except for one thing. Being a last resort seems to keep some people from thinking of us as a first resort. And that's a mistake.
After all, if we're so good at finding the hard-to-finds, imagine how good we must be finding the easy-to-finds.

Plain, Old-Fashioned Stupid
( (T think I can, I think I can, I think I I can," goes the line in the famous children's book about the Little Train that finally convinces itself that it can indeed climb to the top of the mountain. Now at this point you may be asking yourself, "What the hell does this have to do with operating a business?"
Plenty, because confidence is an essential ingredient in any endeavor, whether business, government, sports or life itself. And it pains us to see and hear the doomsayers getting such a prominent play in the media because their dreary message can only have a negative effect on an economy that needs that like another digit in the inflation rate.
Confidence alone won't do it, but if all the other things are there, they are only half as productive without confidence. It does no good to have a lower prime rate (and let's all pray for that) if the builders are too spooked to start building again in earnest for fear the public won't buy because the wage earners are wondering if they will still have a job.
We are all so busy watching the fascinating worlds of finance and business, with all those beautiful zeros, that we loose sight of the fact that in the final analvsis. it is Joe
Consumer who makes the conscious, or unconscious, decision that he has enough confidence to spend his money.
A number of people tend to downgrade the effect that confidence. or the lack of it. can have on the economy. Their thesis is that rational businessmen, not some old lady in Butte, Montana who is worried about the effect of inflation on her pension, make the decisions that move forward the American economy.
That is correct as far as it goes, but if they put up their 200,000 sq. ft. hyper marche and no one comes in to buy anything, who would you say has the final word on business?
Major parts of our economy are sick, but the country is a long, long way from anything resembling the 1930s, yet people who should know better are crying the blues so loudly that the public worries. The Gallup Poll showed 7 out of 10 expect the situation to worsen and almost half expect a 1930s depression.
The facts are bad, but unnecessarily scaring the buyers to the point where their hands go into their pockets and don't come out again, is just plain, old-fashioned stupid.

EASY ACCESS Post-and-beam design, with posts separated as widely as required, allows Jor unimpeded movement of all types ol materials handling equipment at wholesale lumber section, Ward & Harrington Home lmprovement Center. Posts, aparl from other advantages, proved uniquely applicable for loundation use because ol special soil problem created by high clay conlenl.
Entirely apart from substantial cost savings over tilt-up concrete or pre-fab steel, for comparable square footage, the poles proved uniquely applicable in the Costa Mesa project because of a serious soil problem, according to Leon R. Durham, of Treated Pole Builders, Inc., Ontario, Ca.
Rapidly Expanding Firm Guts Cost with Post-and-Beam Design
Post-and-beam design is serving as one of the answers of a rapidly expanding Southern California firm to spiraling construction costs.
A pilot wholesale-retail facility at Fullerton, Ca., proved so successful that Ward & Harrington Home Improvement Centers has just completed a second outlet, of
similar basic post-and-beam design, in the fast-growing coastal community of Costa Mesa.
Company executives report advantages of such construction are so numerous in the merchandising of lumber and related building and household items that they now are erecting a third unit, at Long Beach.
Poles pressure treated in the "Cellon" process, developed by Koppers Company, are utilized for each of the Ward & Harrington structures. The treating method impregnates the poles with chemicals providing enduring protection against decay and insect attack.
High clay content of the earth, he reported, would have necessitated a conventional foundation system far stronger and vastlY more extensive than normal if concrete walls had been selected over post-and-beam design.
Superstructures of treated pole buildings, Durham pointed out can be relatively light. Floor loads are supported independently by the ground and not by the frame of the building. Thus, masonry foundations ate unnecessary. Bases for the poles, set to moderate depths, support the buildings safely.

Poles are set at 20' centers, are pressure treated in "Cellon" process, developed by Koppers, for prolection against decay and insect attack. Similar design is used for two additional branches of rapidly expanding wholesale-retail iirm. The main structure at Costa Mesa. 140'x160', houses Ward & Harrington's retail facility and offers a clear span of 80' on either side of a central row of treated poles, set at 20' centers, and providing a 24' ceiling, with ample space for inclusion of mezzanine level offices.
Satellite canopy areas house the firm's garden and patio dePartments, as well as a wholesale lumber section. The latter was especially designed for ease of access by all types of materials handling equipment.

"lnflation Fighter" program
four day series of Open Houses, including luncheon meetings for architects and dinner meetings for dealers to celebrate the opening of their handsome new Display Showroom has been held by the Bel-Air Door Co. of Alhambra, Ca.
One of the few Western door factories still working full time, BelAir has kicked up its merchandising program as part of its successful "Inflation Fighter" program of holding down prices.
The Display Showroom is open
to all Bel-Air customers to use both as a place to view a sizeable part of the Bel-Air line, as well as a place to which dealers can bring their customers. The company also gives dealer staffs training and instructional sessions on the care, selling and merchandising of doors.
An extensive automation program, coupled with proper buying, the best sources of supply and "just, plain working harder" were credited by company president Sam Fineman as methods Bel-Air had used to avoid the rapid and
steep price increases that many other door companies had inflicted upon their customers.
Lushly carpeted, the new Showroom features scores of doors, including bi-fold, richly hand-carved doors, slab, panel and a myriad of other models. The firm has the world's largest fancy, handcarved door inventory.
At a brief presentation following each dinner, new doors made by Maywood, Inc., Amarillo, Tx., were introduced along with a new model of the popular Pet-Dor. Bel-

ff OME improvement and refurbishing may be the I I only American market area that shows any appreciable growth in real terms during 1975, Dr. Albert G. Matamoros, v.p. and chief economist of the Armstrong Cork Co., told a San Francisco meeting of Armstrong's Residential Ceiling Systems div., held recently for Armstrong dealers and wholesalers from 11 Western and three Mid-western states.
Supporting the home fix-up market are several factors, he said, noting "the increasingly important role ofyoung householdsthat is, households headed by persons in their 20s and early 30sis becoming increasingly apparent. With no adult recollection of a severe recession, not to mention a major depression, apparently they are maintaining their purchases with little regard to the rising price level. In addition, many of these young families, childless and with two wage or salary earners, are devoting a growing share of their purchasing power to the home. Conversely, a smaller share of their spending is directed toward automobiles and expensive domestic and foreign vacations."
The nearly 500 attending were feted with two cocktail parties, a banquet and a day's presentation of Armstrong's new lines, marketing and merchandising plans in the form of a broadway play based on the company's mythical lumber dealer, Charlie Snyder, the Dealer with a Heart.
Interspersed with brief talks by company officials, the professionally done play stressed the points that consumers want a wide range of exclusive, recognizable designs with which to decorate their homes. Done with an engaging, light touch that even included a good bit of kidding of the company, their message of the need to change and adapt to new market conditions was effectively presented.

NAWLA president Bill Baugh described the times as mixed, not good, not bad, and counseled members to take advantage of the services and help NAWLA provides its membership.
Western manager "Pete" Niebling reported on the successful Banff, Canada convention, using a video tape presentation (Don't bother to ask him if the machine worked at each of their meetings).
Denver lumberman Dick Gittings, Gittings Lumber Co., chairman of the government affairs committee, reported on the revitalization of the committee and the work being done to help industry live with government. He urged all to be active with personal and letter writing contacts with their elected representatives and explained that NAWLA would back up these contacts with all the needed information.
Next year's meeting will be The Homestead, Hot Springs, Va., with the 7976 conclave set for Colorado's Broadmoor Hotel.

Answers to the 12 most frequently asked questions about factory-built fireplaces
JF sales and heightened in- I terest in fireplaces are any indicator, then fireplaces are back in vogue in a big way. Dealers of factory-built fireplaces are reporting an unprecedented demand for these products by builders and home remodelers.
According to a recent survey of dealers. a number of the same questions are being asked repeatedly by prospective customers. These questions cover such subjects as sizes, construction, decor. installation methods and longevity of factory-built units.
Heatilator Fireplace, a division of Vega Industries, Inc., one of the nation's largest suppliers of factory-built fireplaces, has developed answers to these dozen most frequently asked questions:
(l) What is meant by the term "rcro cle&rancett ffreplace? A zero clearance fireplace is one which has been tested and listed by Underwriters' Laboratories and certified by various building regulatory groups to be safe when properly installed against a combustible wall, partition and wood floor. Such fireplaces make use of air spaces and insulation installed in the firebox and throat to prevent excessive heat build up. These units may be installed without the need of concrete or masonry footing. Storage shelves, cabinets and other enclosures can be built adjacent to zero clearance fireplaces.
Story at a Glance
Use this Q. and A. list on factory-built fireplaces as a sales tool and a customer guide in selling these increasingly popular products.
(2) What ie a "heat circulating" fireplace? This term denotes a fireplace where room air is drawn in, circulated around an inner air shell in the firebox, heated and then directed through louvers or ducts. Fireplaces of this type can be either gravity or fanforced circulating systems. Heat can be ducted into an adjoining room, if desired.
(3) Is extra floor reinforcement required to support the fireplace? No. The only reinforcement necessary is when an excessive amount of stone or brickwork is used finishing the fireplace facing. The largest factory-built wood burning fireplace weighs no more than 400 lbs. - less than a piano.
(4) What is the cost comparison of an installed factory-built fireplace compared with a conventional masonry unit? Costs are about Vs-V2 those of conventional masonry fireplaces. Since extra footing and brick chimneys are not required, labor costs are minimized.
(5) Where can factory-built fireplaces be installed? They can be flush-mounted on a wall with the rear portion extending through a chase, breezeway, garage, or unused attic space. They can be located on a wall, in a room corner, used as a room divider, or as an island. They can be positioned almost anywhere a piece of furniture can be located.
(6) What is the rule of thumb for matehing fireplace width to room eize? Take the length of the room and the width of the room in feet, then add these two dimensions. Figure 1" in finished fireplace width to the total in feet. Example: a room 24'xL2' gives a sum of 36'. So the fireplace opening should be 36" wide.
Woodburning factory-built fire-
places are usually available in widths of 28", 36" and 42", measured by the width of the screen facing over the opening of the fireplace.
(7) Is there a choice of facing material for matching the ffreplace to a particularroom decor? Factory-built fireplaces lend themselves to individual decorating touches. They can have facings of stone, brick, marble, drywall, plaster, paneling, tile or glass. They can be finished off either with or without mantels and in modern, traditional or Early American.
(8) Can factory-built units be installed as a do-it-yourself pro- ject? Most certainly. Many of them are installed in room remodeling or room additions by home handymen. Complete instructions are included with each unit. According to the manufacturer, an installation can be completed during a week-end.
(9) What components are needed? A base assembly package is available, plus necessary sections of insulated chimney (the number depending upon height to ceiling and distance to outside roof).
(10) What dimensions should you provide a dealer for his help in supplying correct components? Room dimensions will help him recommend the proper width fireplace base assembly. Then he needs to know the height from floor to ceiling, floor to roofline and overall height from floor to two feet above the roofridge. Ifthe distance from roof ridge to center of chimney section is over l0' a 4' height above the roof line is usually sufficient.
(ll) Is a brick chimney required for a fireplace installation? No. Metal chimney sections, insulated between double metal walls, with stainless steel inner lining, are used instead of a brick chimney. These sections twist-lock together tightly to carry smoke and combustion products to the outside. However. in all cases these chimneys require a two-inch clearance from combustibles.
(12) How long will a factorybuilt fireplace lagt? The longevity of a factory-built fireplace depends upon a number of factorsfrequency ofuse, size offires, types of logs burned (some wood burns hotter than others), etc. Some factory-built fireplaces have been in use for more than 40 years and are still in satisfactory condition.

I ing Materials Dealers Assn., has made great strides during the past year
In May, the second annual dealers

ir:R:'1,':"11,1 l,:o;"sJ,lllt".'xt'.9::l
s*t i'.?l::'l;,s1'- :3;ixTF".'J"i,"'i#,H: After the dealers march on Washington, Congress made it known that they knew the building materials dealers were in Washinston. The sarne attitude orevailed after the 1974 meetine.
As a result of those of you taking the time and expense to join in the march the industry was able to gain passage of the Humphrey-Rarick Timber Management Bill and have it signed into law. This bill in itself will serve as a monument to our industry for future generations. At last the federal timber lands and lands capable of producing timber will be managed through a system that will insure a plentiful supply of timber for future senerations.
Another hallmark for our industrv was the oassaqe and signing into law of the Omnibus Houling Bill. AlthouEh this bill will have no immediate impact on our business because of the purposely dampened housing market, the eventual increase in housing starts, remodeling, and redevelopment will insure a need for the building materials dealer for years to come.
Only through the astute leadership of our National president, Hubert Walker, and the assistance of the many dealers who served on National committees and spend countless hours developing contacts with government agencies and Congressmen has the NLBMDA been able to accomplish two major achievements during the year.
It was gratifying to learn that it has become accepted by the various government agencies and is asked to provide advice. The valu-e of our Natidnal to government agen^cies was recently evidenced when Hubert Walker was requested to visit with Secretary Lynn and develop a study group to assist in finding solutions to the housing problems. This singular advent is indicative of the importance our National Association can play at the federal level.
Those of vou beloneins to the Lumber Merchants Association of N6rthern CaTifoinia are automaticallv a member of National and you can look with pride on the wdrk National is doing lor you. Those ofyou not belonging to a federated association think you may be getting a free ride. You're not! Sure, National works for the industry as a whole group, as does your local association but from that point on you are in the dark. You are not aware of bills as they are being signed into law nor are you aware of the assistance from local associations that will help in your decision making process.
There was a day when dealers belonged to their trade association because they earned their living from the industry and wanted to support the industry that supoorted them. In recent years the attitude has changed to how much can I milk from the industry. or what can the industry give me. In more recent months there is an air of flag waving aid a desire to return to the good old days. Whether it is the realization of inflation and recession or an honest desire to get back on the moral path, no one will hazard a guess. We hope this new attitude will prevail. In the meantime, every dealer must participate in a strong association and realize his livelihood depends on the total strength of his industry and the ability to be heard.
Redwood, pine, hemlock, cedar and fir* are right up our alley. One call to Hobbs Wall gets the ball rolling at once. lt puts you in touch with the output of over one hundred Western mills. for the right grades at the right prices, and the right

2500 Boxcars, Ready to Go
Union Pacific Railroad has nearly 2,500 boxcars in storage waiting for loads to help justify, economically, their existence in the UP fleet.
Jack Bowen, general superintendent of transportation for Union Pacific, said this is the other side of the coin which the public seldom hears about but must be faced by railroads when planning equipment acquisitions. He said only a few months ago, the railroads were being criticized because of a boxcar shortage brought on by an unusually heavy demand for both grain and lumber cars.
He point€d out that the 2500
cars UP presently has stored represent an investment of approximately $75 million and at current interest rates such an investment cannot remain unproductive very long without economic consequences.
UP has spent heavily for new rolling stock in recent years with equipment budgets topping the $100 million mark in 1972, t973 and 1974. This was done to meet the unusually heavy demands for service throughout the country.
The current situation was brought about by cutbacks in the building trade and the holding action by wheat producers that is keeping much of this year's production in storage.

"Where necessary, L-P plants and mills will continue to run on reduced schedules curtailed to marketplace demand. This temporary policy affects all L-P operations, but schedule adjustments are being determined by individual managers according to conditions at each location."

New Type Plywood Panel
Potlatch Corp. plans to produce "a new type of plywood panel using structural cores of reconstituted wood."
The structural strength of the new product, Plystran, is the result of a wholly new production process for directionally orienting the wood strands used in the panel cores.
Richard B. Madden, president and chief executive officer, said Potlatch will invest $8-$9 million in a new automated plant in Lewiston, Id. Present plans call for completion in early 1976 and annual production capacity of 204 million sq. ft. (%" basis) of Plystran.
"Laboratory work conducted by Potlatch and the American Plywood Assn. has substantiated that Plystran can be used interchangeably with sheathing grade plywood," said Madden. Potlatch has been authorized to apply APA grademarks to its Plystran panel as a Special Use panel.

Wholesalers' Resources Tour
Forty North American Wholesale Lumber Assn. wholesalers and wives attended the second North American Forest Resources Town Meeting in Tacoma, Wa., including an intensive one-day field trip in Washington's Olympic Peninsula area to view reforestation and regeneration programs.
The tour began with the Col. W.B. Greeley Forest Nursery at Nisqually. Operated by the Industrial Forestry Assn., it annually produces between seven and eight million trees for forest product companies on contract. Since IFA began in 1941, over 280 million trees have been grown and shipped for reforestation of private lands.
Second stop was Weyerhaeuser
New Plywood T&G Joint
A new tongue-and-groove joint now being produced by members of the American Plywood Assn. helps avoid ridging.
The joint design developed by APA engineers ensures that the upper plies of panel edges will be spaced to avert ridging if the panel should pick up moisture and expand. It is recommended that edges not be tightly butted. Panel ends still require spacing.
It is extremely important, however, that the new T & G joint not be used with the previous tongue-and-groove design. The two joints are not compatible because the new tongues and grooves are approximately 7132" thinner and are tapered at different angles.
Company's Rochester Regeneration facility. The wholesalers visited a seed tree orchard that produces seeds for the "super trees" of tomorrow. Not only is the orchard producing in an operational way, there are also many pilot experimental efforts being made here in search of even better ways to grow trees faster or genetically improve them.
For the seed orchard, the group moved to the containerized seedling operation which is currently growing eight-and-a-half million seedlings in containers which speed up seedling production substantially.
The distributors then moved on to Simpson Timber Co. forest-
Building materials dealers should watch for an identification flyer included in bundles of plywood from APA member mills that have the new T & G joint. This is a reminder not to mix these panels with previous T & G panels.
To further avoid confusion, some member mills are marking new joint bundles with two yellow stripes, two inches in width, one
lands to view experimental forest areas, before seeing the log-sorting yard where logs are brought into a gigantic yarding operation and sorted by grade and species before traveling the last few miles to the mill.
Hirge fork lifts capable of lifting 60 tons are moving constantly around this 100-acre yard, moving logs into whatever classification that insures the best utilization in manufacture.
The group met for breakfast next day to discuss the field trip. The company foresters led a freewheeling discussion on the future of reforestation and intensive management of our renewable resource.
NAWLA's Forest Resources
Town Meetings are designed to help the wholesaler-distributor become more articulate in regard to our forest resources and the problems that industry faces to insure wood fiber for the years to come.
Iocated on the end of bundles and the other on the tongue side.
For years, APA has recommended spacing between panel ends and edges to allow for expansion if the panel is exposed to moisture during construction. If this spacing recommendation is followed, the previous T & G joint produces high quality applications equal to that of the new joint.

Old comolaints about cast stone used to centei around its unnatural appearance. This firm's highlydeveloped molding process reproduces every groove, undercut and convolution of the natural stones used as Datterns.
An L-shaped corner piece handiiy makes the corners. Its California driftstone, Oregon mossrock, palo verde, black lava and others look and feel so natural in texture and color its manufacturers have dubbed it "the stone next to natures".
Today, interest in stone for both residential and commercial use is growing as an ecology-aware public veers toward rustic patterns, earthy tones and natural appearances. Stone accents on any type construction can often be the one extra touch needed to nudge a buyer toward the dotted line.

The am aztng Renaissance of hardwood flooring
Lf'ARDWOOD flooring is back. I
I
Not the commodity-type strip floor of 20-30 years ago, but as a timely and beautiful specialty, replete with new patterns, colors, textures, and applications.
Hardwood flooring has changed greatly, and those who have recognized the changes, and the business opportunities inherent therein, are profiting.
Consumers today seek natural quality in floor covering. They increasingly look for products from nature, products which bridge the gap between the substance and form of years gone by and the planned obsolescence of today. Hardwood flooring perfectly satisfies these desires. But the timelessness of hardwood floors is only one reason for their renewed popularity.
Virginia Hardwood Co., the world's largest wholesale distributor of specialty hardwood flooring, has played a leading role in the promotion of genuine hardwood flooring. From beautiful brochures and mailers to point of purchase displays and even complete wall-hanging or free-standing hardwood flooring departments, they make available everything necessary for the promotion, display, and sale of genuine hardwood flooring. Further, the company provides sales training, technical information. and maintains three complete showrooms (116 Railroad Ave., Monrovia, Ca.; 1555 East Jackson St., Phoenix, Az., and 352 N. Robertson Blvd., Los Angeles), and places heavy emphasis on specification calls to architects, interior designers, and other specifiers.
Hardwood flooring has been adapted to todays building methods; all parquets can be easily installed over a cement slab. There is even a genuine oak plank floor
Story at a Glance
No longer a commodity type item, hardwood flooring has become a new and beautiful specialty, boasting numerous patterns, colors, textures and applications .. it is also a very profitable product to sell.
(Bruce's Village Plank) which can be installed directly over concrete. Many hardwood floors are now available factory finished. This has been a blessing to hardwood flooring for many reasons. Factory finished hardwood floors are easily and quickly installed, saving costly labor and eliminating time lost between laying, sanding, and finishing. Also, factory finished hardwood floors have simplified the consumer's selection process and help make the cost of a genuine hardwood floor comparable to other quality floor coverings. (For example, genuine factory finished hardwood parquet often is less costly than vinyl imitations).
Many factory finished hardwood parquets and planks are easily installed by the non-professional.
These factory finished products are not limited to the floor! Increasingly consumers are applying genuine factory finished hardwood flooring to walls, tables or whatever their imagination suggests!
Hardwood flooring received an important boost when the old maintenance bug-a-boo was laid to rest. Today they are as easy to maintain as any quality-floorcovering. The basic rule of thumb
for maintaining hardwood floors is: When you vacuum your carpets, vacuum your hardwood floors; when you shampoo your carpets; wax your hardwood floors;'when you replace your carpets, wax your hardwood floors.
The numerous installations of hardwood flooring in shopping malls, office buildings, restaurants, and department stores has proven its practicality, durability, and ease of maintenance.
Another factor in hardwood floorings' increased popularity is the large variety of patterns, colors. and textures available. Virginia Hardwood Co. carries in inventory in its Monrovia, Ca., and Phoenix, Az., warehouses well over a hundred different hardwood parquet and plank styles and colors, featuring BondWood by Harris, Bruce Floors, PermaGrain, Wood-Mosaic, and Dura Seal floor finishes and waxes. From these locations, the company services Southern California, Arizona, Southern Nevada, and Hawaii.
The promotion and marketing of genuine hardwood flooring has changed, too. On the national level, hardwood flooring is featured editorially in home and interiors magazines. Full page ads in these magazines have further stimulated the consumers' desire for genuine hardwood flooring. Manufacturers are receiving thousands of inquiries each week from consumers requesting literature and names of local dealers.
Because of the efforts of companies like Virginia Hardwood, the major hardwood flooring manufacturers, and quality floor covering dealers and flooring contrac. tors, hardwood flooring has found its place as the quality floor covering specialty for the commercial and residential market.

I enjoyed the article on the ToP Ten (The M erchant. Sept.) You got us on that one, old buddy. Despite the cliche to blame it on the printer, we can tell you with a straight face that they masked ouer the line on the negatiue that said: "UNITED STATES LUMBER PRODUCTION", thus the confusion. Tequila plants, indeed; we can sure tell where your thoughts are.-ed.
Dear Sirs:
We have a library patron who wants to know if there is any "government office or orivate business that sells and/or collects salvaged and used lumber for resale."
We have not been able to find anything other than telephone Yellow Page listings under "lumber-used." Are you aware of other possibilities?
Any help or direction you might give will be appreciated. Thank you.

Are Rental Uniforms For You?
Executives throughout commerce and industry have found that what their employees wear on the job has a tremendous influence on the attitude of the worker towards his work as well as the organizaton's public image.
As a result, an ever increasing number of the nation's work force is being clothed in attractive, distinctive uniforms. These garments are generally supplied on rental programs from industrial launderers .throughout the nation.
By renting these garments, employers enjoy the benefits of having
Western their employees neatly attired, and with the addition of a company's logo, properly identified.
Garments supplied by industrial Iaunderers come in a variety of styles and fabrics for all purposes. For example, some are made to resist acids and/or caustic materials, others are specifically treated to be flame resistant, others are styled and fitted for employees whose ap-
Lumber and Bullding Materialc MERCHANT pearance is important to the company's public image.
According to the Institute of Industrial Launderers, many employers have also found that providing workers with attractive, wellfitting unilbrms helps boost morale and reduce turn-over by making the individual feel more a part of a team effort and more readily identifiable to those outside the orsanization.

The next time the storms are fierce in the mountains just above us, and your regular supplier is only slightly more accessible than the top of Mount Everest, be glad Kimberly-Clark chose to build its thoroughly modern, fully automated, completely computerized mill down where the birds still sing and the roads
are passable. lf at first you don't succeed, turn back to Kimberly-Clark. Chances are we can load you up even before your frostbite recedes.
We don't mind being second choice once in a while.
Many of our "drop-ins" decide to make Kimberly-Clark first choice every time.
