New Hq for Lumber Products

Lumber Products Inc. has acquired a 20 acre site in Tualatin. Or.. for $1.3 million and expects to move into the new quarters by Jan. l.

The company, which sold its 88,000 sq. ft. Portland, Or., Hq. to make the move, is constructing a I10,000 sq. ft. office and warehouse building plus 15,000 sq. ft. in covered storage sheds.

These will occupy 12 acres of the site. The remaining 8 acres will be kept for future development with the possibility of a 20,000 sq. ft. manufacturing complex being added, according to Pete Hall, president of the company, which does an estimated $48 million in annual sales from six northwest locations.

APA Forms Engineered Unit

Formation of a related but separately funded corporation of manufacturers of glued engineered wood products and systems, such as glulams and l-beams, has been authorized by the American Plywood Association's board of trustees.

The new nonprofit organization will provide a full range of services to members, including product promotion, product and systems research, and quality auditing. Qualified products and systems will be promoted under a newly established American Plywood Association-Engineered Wood Systems (APA-EWS) trademark.

"The expansion of APA services to cover glued wood products and systems is viewed by the board of trustees as an activity capable ofcontributing significantly to the faster growth of structural panel markets," said board chairman and Simpson Timber Co. president Thomas R. Ingham, Jr. "The board recognizes APA as a logical organization to assist in creating that growth, based on its experience and acknowledged performance."

APA is proceeding with a sixmonth implementation plan that targets Jan. l, 1991, as an official launch date. Several companies have already made commitments to the new program.
